But a vrg discord would make my own little discord circle less special as people would go there to acquire social currency rather than suck up to me, the owner of my discord.

It took 17 days (12 of which were spent just sitting in customs) but my VRCover finally arrived, and as promised I'll give my initial impression of it and how it compares to the WidmoVR cover.
It's nicely packaged, especially when compared to the WidmoVR which just came loose in a tiny little envelope. In the box is the faceplate with leather foam velcroed on, a fabric cover, a piece of cloth, and some instructions. I didn't know I was getting the fabric cover as well as the faceplate with leather. All the more reason to go with VRCover over WidmoVR which only comes with the cover. Speaking of WidmoVR, their cover is extremely small, I could barely even fit it over the headset at first. Despite the very snug fit, the area around the nose was loose (which you can see in the album pictures) which was extremely annoying. At first I thought the best way to fix this would be to glue the nose area onto the Oculus foam but I'm fucking stupid and didn't realize I was literally huffing glue with that thing that close to my face, so I used string after that.

The VRCover is a lot bigger than the WidmoVR. Despite this though, it fits much better on the faceplate than the WidmoVR does. The area around the nose on the VRCover fits like it should. The fabric is thicker than the WidmoVR, and is quite comfy, but I have a feeling after long use it can get really hot and sweaty. Since the cover is also bigger, it covers up more of the emptiness inside the headset, which I found somewhat helps my FoV. One of the main reasons why I originally bought the WidmoVR was that hair kept getting stuck in the Oculus foam. The WidmoVR kinda has the same issue, but since this VRCover is leather, it doesn't have that issue. It will probably collect oil from your face pretty fast though.

Anyhow, I'm going to try it out for a few days and then give my thoughts on it again then, but my initial impression of it so far is that it's miles better than the WidmoVR.

I've voiced my opinion on it plenty ingame. It's pointless. At best it serves as a redundant source of information, at worst it becomes a power trip and source of drama. It already has been created by the fact one outspoken individual has made it and people join to not be left out; i've heard little discussion for or against aside from a few individuals. On this topic I have the leather, waterproof VRCover and aside from making your face sweat from ambient heat due to low breathability the tradeoff of "just wipe it clean" is fucking fantastic

I think the meets have proven people have the power deal with drama and cut out anything that gets too out of control. Things are an unstable dysfunctional balance right now, which is why it will continue to work. I do believe some might have done what you have said and joined in fear of being left out, but to clarify I don't think people NEED to join the steam, its just for events, announcements, sharing assets not on discord but in /vrg/'s reach. Some people don't have a discord or they are too connected to join and remain "anonymous" Steam allows you to remain private and every vrchat user has one. Its a good solution for now, not perfect, but people need something outside "I shared this thing 10 threads ago" "check the pastebin you don't check" "I hosted a lobby and nobody came". I don't really see the point in having a steam group, every announcement can just be made here. I didn't even know missing announcements was a problem, as I've never heard a single person complain about missing a planned event.
That being said though, I don't see why it's necessarily a terrible idea either that's going to fraction the playerbase and blahblahblah. The only purpose of it is to announce shit. You can't do private circlejerk servers or group voice chat or something like discord, all you can do is be an annoying little shit like Orb and RRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE all over the comments section.

At best, the steam group can actually be used for its intended purpose which is to announce important events. At worst, it becomes something useless and completely forgotten about in a week or two. I'm going to say it's going to become the latter.

I lack the major thing that a leader requires - and that's authority. We don't need leaders. What is a leader going to do? Organize how people stand around and talk? If the game were objective based, sure, I can see a need for a leader.

I do some of the brainless tasks for the community, like opening portals when no one else is or trying to gather people's thoughts on things, but these aren't really leader tasks, it's more like cleaning or paperwork or chores that no one else wants to do. I do these things both because I'm good at this sort of thing and I am aware of the fact that I'm not nearly as cool as most of the people in the community and want to be useful.
I'm much more like the maid who's skirt everyone is always flipping than I am a leader.

I'm of the opinion that we don't really need leadership due to the nature of the game. And while my opinion doesn't really matter, I'm also of the opinion that we don't need a discord and I have doubts about how useful a steam group really is.

Well I think steam integration at any point was not to be talked about, people who are doing vrchat only use in game friends list, and so far the vast majority in the group are vrchat people who play games on the side. The steam group isn't some kind of separate /vrg/ community. It's just so people can announce events. You choose not to join, so you don't get to complain about being excluded. Let me just take a moment to explain what either a dedicated shitposter doesn't know, or some member doesn't understand. There are about 6+ discords from various people in vrchat, their "reasons" for having them are varied, but at the end of the day they are pulling people away from the thread. This is a solution that allows anybody who wants to be in to be included, there is absolutely no gate, and its not pulled from the thread in terms of post. The circles are already here, just trying to include people in something for everybody with as wide of a dang entrance as possible for even the biggest assholes. Take note, there are shitposters eating up this thread right now who are enjoying all the conflict, you could even be one right now.
