I use 6 gig 1060, you should be fine with that, remember that you will want a good CPU for shitty CPU bound games like VRChat and good memory for shitty memory bound games like Onward. Choosing a headset is pretty straightforward, if you want fullbody tracking out of the box and have the money, you buy a Vive and 3 trackers. Otherwise you buy a Rift. Or I guess a WMR headset, but I can't vouch for those.

The main difference is the controlling method. The oculus currently has the superior controllers, which the light house system(which the vive uses) will be similar controllers soon(ish).

They're honestly about the same, with the oculus headset winning ahead of the vive just a little bit in terms of quality. The screen and lenses on the oculus are generally considered better, with text being much more readable and less screen door.

Been here for a few months now. Still torn on which unit to actually get since the closest Rift demo is like 6 hours away. I've tested Vive and WMR at my friendly neighborhood Micro Center That I used to work at. The WMR unit, while well maintained by the Microsoft rep, was kinda shit. Better resolution, but the tracking was fucked. The Vive, which they dumped in CE, even though it's managed by BYO, was grimy as fuck and the base stations weren't recalibrated after moving shit around so the bounding box was in the wrong area and unless you paid attention to where you were in relation to bulk displays of fucking $30 VR phone goggles, you'd run into shit. Tracked really well though.
Vive controllers are weird and the side grips suck but otherwise don't really know how I feel about them. The WMR controllers were nice, but I didn't like the big light ring on the front. Never used the Rift so I have no idea if it's worth getting, especially with it being $100 cheaper than the Vive. And of course The Knuckles coming SOON™
Also not sure if I even have space for sensors with maybe 4 feet between the edge of my desk and bed and a ceiling fan close overhead
And need to get a car soon, so that's going to kill having much by way of reserve funds.

For me, getting VR is pretty much on the same time scale as Knuckles being released for consumer use.

And they work fine together, the leg trackers which I usually run on 3.0 are working quite nice, I only tried it out on steamvr but the controllers are a bit laggy, as in they stutter from time to time. It could be just on my end, but I figured I shouldn't continue bothering. Maybe a dedicated USB card on a PCIE slot would help, but that's up to you. t. Spheri

Select all the objects in the 3D viewport by hitting the "A" key (this'll put a green/blue border around all the objects in your scene)

Then after everything is selected hit "Ctrl+J" to Join them together.

If you ever want to pull certain meshes apart you can do the same procedure by selecting the objects you want to separate in Edit mode with the "L" key, then press "P" and select any of the 3 options it gives you. (Whichever makes the most sense, and in this case it's "By Selection" because you went through the effort of selecting the pieces you wanted to pull apart.)

Sorry for the late reply! I'm not really sure how I'd do that while still making the arms and hands still look natural. As for how close I got, I'd say the finger tips reached the base of the other hand, it's mostly just the wrist angle that messes things up I think.

I tried to imitate how the trick is actually done IRL, using the thumb on the "pulling" hand to mimic the other hand's thumb, but doing so puts the hand at an angle that makes the controllers collide. Might have to make a separate thumb tip and spawn it on the pulling hand so that the thumb can be at a different angle, if that makes sense. I'll have to do a bit more testing.

VRChat webms became popular of /wsg/ in the latter half of last year, then some of /v/ wanted to talk about it but the mods didn't really like it, so it finally migrated to /vg/ in December when few of us actually had headsets and the topic was mostly basic 3D modelling and unity questions. At the end of December we had the first real meet up where a load of mutes didn't really talk to each other.

The thread started becoming more lewd and around the same time one of the community managers turned out to be from here, and was part of the original /vrg/ from 2-3 years ago, so some of us watched anime with him. In mid-January we had the first official meet up, which continued on to this day, gradually becoming a daily occurrence. Fears of an inner circle developing were emerging, but this was not the case at this stage. Some were getting into VR relationships and gay/crossdressing posts (sockposting) were becoming popular.

Into February we realized it would soon be valentines day and when the day came, many made badly thought out confessions to each other and caused the first real social strife. On the following Friday, the main meet up was disrupted by many users going to hide in private rooms to play spin the bottle and this continued for about two weeks creating a real fear that the community was irreparably fragmented, but they got bored of it. Slightly later some started playing Onward together after weeks of posts saying we should play other games. The 'sockposting' was exiled to /trash/

I am getting lighthouses in addition to my existing Rift set up and I'm wondering if my bed will create occlusion issues with them that don't exist with the Zuckercameras. The pink area is hidden from one sensor, but this isn't an issue because the other two can see there and if my body obstructs one, the other can still see, so I've never faced occlusion due to this set up. With lighthouses, I'll only have two, so if I set them up in corners, then only one is going to be able to see half of the floor and thus I think my body will prevent either from seeing the trackers. I could set them up on the green axis but it's far harder to mount them anywhere. Inb4 delet the bed; I have strongly considered it for about 4 months now.
