Apparently chairs can be placed on avatars that work for others to use. You just place an empty gameobject, parent a chair to it, disable it, then activate it with a gesture on runtime.

Has anyone here ever used the AI 3D face imaging thing for turning 2d pictures of faces into 3d? I know a few people at the meet-ups have done it. I did it and downloaded the .obj file it gave me but it's just a giant untextured face when I open it in blender.

Well there's no real "point" to anything we do in life. Exploring is fun because nature is beautiful and expansive. When you go /out/ you never know what interesting things you might stumble upon. Those rocks, trees, and grass aren't just simple objects but could be supporting a whole ecosystem of life with each having it's own long history.

It's interesting see what someone came up with and finding the little things they put in. Sure a lot of them can be busts but given the infinite variability between what people can imagine every once in a while you may find something bizarre and unique that makes it all worthwhile. It's the unknown that draws people forward. We are hard wired to find enjoyment in novel experiences and to seek them out wherever we can.

What does toggling "advanced Vive settings" do? I have a Vive, turned it on and I didn't notice a difference.

So guys what exactly are the limitations of the vive vs the oculus as far as hand gestures? i'm trying to find specifically how the oculus is better for hand gestures than vive.

Rift has capacitive buttons so it knows where three of your fingers are. If you don't touch the trigger, that activates the point gesture and you are pointing in real life. Vive is just pressing directions on a touchpad. The Vive wands are also large and obstructive while the Rift controllers are the shape of your hand so it feels less like you're holding something.

Yep, just like this.
Keep it hidden, and activate it using a gesture override. If you want to be able to take out the hilt without it immediately activating too, you can hide the particle effect and then activate it on another separate override. I have 3 overrides in total, one for taking the hilt out, one for turning it on, and one for turning it off. I also put a lightsaber on my belt, and made it so when I take the lightsaber hilt out, the one on my belt disappears, making it look like you're grabbing it right from your belt. It's pretty easy to do, you just set the game object.is active to be unchecked on the one on the belt, and checked on for the one on your hand.

I guess they could start putting time limits on the instances and a cap on the number of entries your allowed to be in a private instance a week.

Oh. Sorry about that. If you go far back enough to the chain of posts at the start, I said you can still have private instances, just that you will have to wade through a public world first before you can make a private instance.

I think the devs need to make the public world list less bleak. I've tried to pubhop a bit but it just feels too random to join thegreatpug instance #9000 or presentation room #65535 and hope whoever's in there is interesting. I'd like at least some information up front other than map and number of people, something as simple as a text room name and topic, a la /list in IRC. e.g. "#socks-and-faggotry: proteus effect 101" vs. "#headpat-bedroom: nekomimi theme day" would hopefully prep people in room more towards that topic/event. It'd feel more like an IRL hangout, which at least has a name and probably an event list on the front door.

I'm sure it's a personal preference thing though, whether you're the type that likes to just go to some random nondescript bar IRL and hang out vs needing some sort of structured event like trivia night to at least get you there.

For /vrg/ meetups in particular it'd be nice to have a public-listed-but-password-protected, or unlisted/linkonly public instance, so somebody could drop a link or password into the thread instead of having to join in on someone.

I'm of the opinion chef holing yourself up in locked instances is bad for the overall health of the game, but you can't really force people to interact with one another if they don't want to. The only way I could see people starting to come out more, is if they, at the very least, limited desktop users to the pug or a few other super popular maps. They could be invited to other maps by friends, but not have the ability to freely travel to whatever they want. That way they'd have the chance to try it out before buying a headset, and if not, it'll be a lot harder for them to take over rooms in most places, while headset owners will have an easier time meeting up with one another.

Players should have the freedom to play how they wish, provided it doesn't cause trouble for other a la crashers or gorespamming. Conveniently, spawning in a private instance of your choice prevents this from happening the minute you load into game, although the possibility is admittedly low.
Nobody but those looking to cause trouble would benefit from being forced to spawn into public instances. Preventing people from joining private instances unless they meet certain circumstances far more strict than invites would lead to even more anger among the community when they're unable to hang out with their friends in a private instance.
