For the model being lower/sunken to the ground issue, in unity, in configure bone/avatar mode, highlight the hip bone and raise your avatar above the plane. Click the center box in the xyz control in the upper right to switch between view modes so you can see the grid better.

I don't know what the fuck headset to get. The Vive at $500 initially caught my eye but I've heard horror stories about HTC support and the hardware itself is only getting older, plus the Vive Pro makes me think that HTC doesn't really have a future. On the other hand the Vive works with basically any VR steam game whereas the Rift and Mixed Reality headsets seem to be a mixed bag when it comes to compatibility.

Well, with my disclaimer being that I have used the vive exclusively:

The general wisdom seems to be that the Rift is superior in terms of controllers and usability, but the downside is that the cheap full body option for the Rift (kinect) isn't very good.

For 300 bucks or so, you can get full body tracking with the Vive. Here's a video of what it looks like.

If you're interested in vrchat, that's the big question you have to answer.
You can get full body with vive trackers and a rift, but that costs 1000 or so extra and a number of headaches if those that use both are to be believed.

I've been told that support sucks for both.
My understanding is that if you're willing to jump through a few hoops, most games are compatible with either headset.

So why does the topic still come up every day?
It's because it's shitposting, and it was intended to target both sides. The ways in which it was a smear campaign against Arrow are obvious, and the fact that it continues, and that every time it comes up someone immediately points out how evil Fath/his friends are tends to suggest that it's a smear campaign against Faith and friends as well.

So, in closing, it is very effective shitposting that has done a lot of damage to the community and has effectively driven two or more people out.
It should be very obvious what it is at this point, and it should be ignored until it goes away. There's not proof of anyone doing any wrongdoing, the issue should be completely ignored by everyone.

The last two nights started up because I was there testing something with one or two other people and then it snowballed. They’re not official nor are they even scheduled. Some people just like the map, it’s pretty empty so it runs well. Some people do like watching movies too. It’s fine if you don’t want to watch a movie, though. There are two ways:

1 - add the object in blender, shrink it with a shape key, parent it to the bone you want it to follow, combine all meshes then atlas. Hide and show it with the shape key. This does not affect performance.

2 - add the object to the hierarchy in unity under the bone you want it to follow, enable and disable with overrides. Each visible object will create an extra draw call.

You need to have two objects and make one disappear from the body and the other appear in the hand. You can't reparent objects.

You don't even necessarily need either to get comfy, but both work if you just find someone to make it work with. Pic related, the limited poseability of Kinect made for a good setup to lie down on. Would do so again too.
