There's nothing intrinsically slow about the techniques they're using, but like most NN research projects, it's only optimized enough to run on their beefy demonstration hardware.

Also on the bright side, if you're willing to
wear some sort of fiducials instead of forcing the computer to detect your arbitrary body and clothes against an arbitrary background, non-NN pose estimation techniques should work well enough today, e.g. pic related. How is onward in single-player mode and spectating? I'm trying to find cool games to demo and convince some of my friends to take the VR plunge. I scuffed the scheduling for the last TF stream really badly, so there was only me and one other person that had to leave after the first two episodes and I stopped there. Once I figure out a time to host again, I think I'll probably start back at the beginning, if that's what people prefer.

If you compile arcuo you'll get example c++ programs that are easy enough to use. In addition, I have this IMU from sparkfun I'm going to try sensor fusion with, example code here:

I don't know if the IMU is strictly necessary since VRC's netcode already applies smoothing to the output, but it'll definitely help the jankiness of tracking locally, and when you occlude the fiducials from arcuo temporarily. I was doing a project of my own using ArUco markers to map a projected image to a surface. It's handy stuff so I'd be happy to help out. I'm not sure you'd need the IMU necessarily since you can get rotation info from the ArUco marker. Just need to have the right damping on your output to filter out the higher frequency noise, but it's one of those things that's hard to say until it's actually tried. Another thing to consider is if you had to use them you'd only really need the two IMU's for the feet and then you could grab the data from the headset/remotes for the other end points. The other markers don't need to be accurate just smooth so you can average the value over time to get higher levels of accuracy and or possibly combine it with an IK model.

I was thinking, we can get full body tracking, at least in VRChat, using just 8 IMUs, right? So chest+hip+upper legs+lower legs+feet. That plus the headset would give enough information to work out where each body part is. Because IMUs drift, you'd of course have to calibrate every once in a while. It can but it sucks and the software was only meant for standing humans so it goes crazy very easily. You could spend 5 minutes going back and forth between standing/sitting/laying and if you're really lucky it will lose tracking at the right moment when you're laying down and stay that way. It will be obvious when it happens because your lower body will freeze. At this point you can hide the kinect or your body so it doesn't resume tracking again, using a sheet or whatever. If it picks up tracking again it will probably go bad.

Really don't bother. The kinect does sitting and standing just fine, save the bed for dreaming of better tracking.

Put them on the corners of the playspace, not the room, so there's nothing blocking. A sensor on the floor won't actually track the floor well because you occlude it from every angle aside from directly facing it.

ive noticed the past day or so, that some friends Ive made (friend of friends that ive friended) have started joining off of me, and then their friends join off of them, which made me nervous about dropping a portal and had me considering just ditching them and inviting vrgers to the new world because I dotn want to be 'that guy" who drags tons of non vrgers to vrg meetups. one guy was actually streaming and I had to politely ask him not to stream. he quickly agreed and left but it made me really think.

on the one hand, weve met some interesting people through pubhopping in the past, who still visit us and are basically vrg at this point even if not officially. (keytar and nappa for instance) and there are a handful of vrg regulars who joined off of a friend and dont really browse the threads, but mostly fit in anyway.

but at the same time, i know that the friend of a friend thing can snowball out of control pretty quickly

I've only played Skyrim and The Forest and The Forest definitely takes the cake. A cannibal scared me so badly that I screamed IRL and fell off my bed while accidentally tripping off a cliff in-game. How are people even voting for the latter. Even if the one random who joined off somewhere here is compatible that can't be said for anyone else who joins off them. We have had on multiple occasions where one person would join off somewhere here and their friends would join off them. A small group of randoms would form and they would only talk amongst themselves not interacting with our group at all. It also doesn't help that these randoms are NEVER optimized making them a waste of drawcalls. You can literally look at the direction where they are grouped up together and watch your frames drop.
