It's good. I'm shit at ping pong too, but from my untrained hand, the physics sim is good. You can do top and backspin and shit, and unlike other games, the lack of haptic feedback feels fine, because it's ping pong. And, you just press a button to summon the ball back to your hand. Vastly superior to IRL pong.

The multiplayer lag compensation is good too. I dunno what magic they used, but I was getting ~70ms ping, and it still felt pretty natural, for the few times we were able to keep a volley for more than a few hits. The game transmits your off-hand and head position too with pretty fine detail, so you can see the other person jump for shots or follow the ball with their head(set), kinda cute. There are a few paddle and head models (e.g. a cat head) you can swap to for customization, but no full body or IK, sad.

The actual lobby and UI kinda sux toothough. There's no built-in voice chat AFAICT so you can't blast 6ix9ine. We just played "practice" mode but apparently there's a competitive mode with ELO tracking and shit. There are some minigames and single player stuff too, but I didn't try them yet.

So /vrg/ is picking this up finally? That's cool. It's probably the best ping pong simulator out there, but it's definitely not perfect. The physics are probably good enough, but perhaps could still use improvement. You can notice when you try to bounce the ball just straight up in the air, with small bounces, that it's weird. It's like the ball sticks to your paddle sometimes. You also can't seem to balance the ball on the paddle consistently every time, because for some reason, it phases/glitches through the paddle without you doing anything. Can't judge the physics while in regular play though, since I don't really play any ping pong in real life and it's been years since I ever did.

Also, the UI and the user experience of adjusting settings is pretty bad. That's probably my biggest complaint for the game.

They're not bad, and they're all on the same tracking software, including the Odyssey, which does improve with updates as it is built into Windows 10 to begin with. I've heard tracking has improved significantly in the last six months. THe Lenovo Explorer is now $179 with controllers, if anyone wants a good budget option to get into VR right now, that's the one to beat. We're kind of in a weird in between phase right now where you don't wanna miss out on VR but you are probably going to end up buying some kind of new hardware sooner rather than later so it's best not to get too invested in anything right now, be it headsets or GPUs. If someone asked me what the best way to get into PCVR right now is, I'd tell them to get an i3 8100, a 1050, and a Lenovo. All three are going to be upgraded with brand new high spec hardware in under a year and a half or so if you're serious about VR.

I forgot to add that I'm rx 280 and dual core pentium anon, 290 is the recommended minimum so you should be fine on that front. Unless you have something against facebook, which is a valid reason, the rift has specific technology to help with lower spec machines called asw, though I do think steam vr is getting that integrated into its software so it might just be a moot point.

Yeah get the base hardware before you buy a headset, definitely. My mobo only supports 2 USB 3.0, and has 2 USB 2.0 in the back and 1 in the front. I've got a splitter for the keyboard and mouse and have to unplug one of my trackers if I'm going to put my external in. I get by okay on this with full body and a vive but I really want to upgrade to 6 in the back, 2 in the front.
Also remember to check if you can make a 2m x 2m area of empty space in your house to play vr in. Doesn't have to be pretty but it has to exist.

Oval is fun but definitely unpolished as was stated already. Most control rebinding would be nice along with manual reloading as either an option or by default, it's really non-interactive to have extra hands sitting around as your gun just magically reloads itself. The movement was interesting but the controls on Vive kind of suck for it, but the worldbuilding is fucking fantastic if you were to actually figure out how to do it. Multiplayer by default, allows godmode/DM style building during gameplay ala Zeus in A3, but instead of a magic camera you're a massive TV screen and everyone sees your magic worldbuilding wands and such as you go around doing shit. It's really neat and a shame we don't see more of it in games.

Uplink is just sorta there, it's borderline TDM with 5 min long waiting. On the other hand, just about every Pavlov /vrg/er will play objective most of the time. I can count on one hand the amount of Onward plays who will actually bother to put in codes, myself included. The headset doesn't need emitters. No one has complained about the head tracking of Quest, it doesn't need any extra tracking points. It's the controllers which have a limited angle they can be away from the headset. How it works is that Quest has a bunch of cameras on the headset that see out into the world. Those cameras capture images of the environment and use algorithms to detect its position relative to the scenery. Then those cameras use algorithms to detect IR LEDs. Because there can only be so many cameras of a given quality on the headset, you can't capture 360 degrees around the user, which means that if you stick your controller behind your back, it'll leave the sight of the cameras and thus stop tracking. Overall though, it still feels really niche use being able to track your hands back there. Without tactile feedback, there's not a lot of actual gameplay you can make with your hands out of visual FOV. Guy who was talking about Warzone earlier. Beta keys are out, multiplayer goes live tomorrow. Today was spent with testers in a preview area picking apart object interactions and gun handling. Dev was in channel taking reports and pushing hotfixes on the fly. Significant improvement over a short time. Confirming full hand-based vehicle controls, including the turret, guns handle well, recoil was very low, has been tweaked. Shooting overall feels good, sights are useful and clear.
More info tomorrow. The testing range is very limited and made pretty much just to fuck with the controls and bugfix.

Welcome. I think you'll find that WMR is plenty adequate, I don't find it lacking myself, though I use the Samsung WMR, not the Lenovo. Personally, I prefer it over the Vive.
A couple of observations for you about WMR - it recognizes your playspace better if you keep the lighting level similar to what it was at when you set the playspace up.
You can launch SteamVR directly and not even bother with the WMR Cliff House - this also spares your computer from keeping the Cliff house loaded in the background. The only thing you might need to do in the Cliff House is set your floor height.
Rechargeable batteries are your friends. I have 8 eneloops, and always have 4 charged batteries ready to swap in if I need them, though they should last 8+ hours on a charge in your controllers.
Make sure you plug your Bluetooth dongle into a 2.0 port, and keep it away from any wifi or 2.4ghz peripherals to avoid interference, or your controllers may drop out.
If you have a decent headset already, get an adapter for it, else just use a phone headset - the 3.5mm jack on the WMRs uses the same style plug as a phone headset, where the headphones and microphone are on the same jack.
Lastly, install OpenVR Advanced Settings, it's very useful for various reasons.

WiFi cards also. Took me awhile to figure out why the fuck my ping on my VR rig on the local network would skyrocket to 800ms+ until I realized the Oculus service running was causing the problems, since that service being on is what powers the IR cameras.

Fixed it by changing which USB3 ports the cameras were using (my mobo has 10), and avoiding certain wireless channels. Was a troubleshooting hassle to say the least. It's part of the reason I would hope CV2 drops data hungry cameras, or at least do the processing with a microprocessor onboard even though that'd increase the cost of the cameras.
Not like them charging $80 for the current cameras isn't a complete rip-off since it's just a 60fps 1080p low latency webcam running an obfuscated single colour channel

My only complaint so far is the starting difficulty is way too low. I don't know if it gets more difficult later, but it's impossible to die when you have 5000 HP and the only opponents are 5 slow sosigs with melee weapons (~500 damage per hit) outside the hamlet. I haven't even fired a gun yet as the pitchfork is sufficient. I presume it gets more difficult later as there's 5 zombie types listed in the bakery and the 'sovereign citizen' mentions military opponents. Personally I'd put the buildings in the starting area closer together and allow some enemies to spawn so it doesn't take so long with nothing happening.

Sim racing is the primary reason I bought VR and I don't regret a penny. I got tired of racing on three pancakes.

Don't think for a second that you can play or enjoy racing games with VR controllers, if you're interested, take a the leap of faith and get a wheel+pedal set.´

The cheapest with force feedback (usually G29/G920 on sale for 170$ or G25/G27 used) will serve you fine for a few years. I'm sure you won't regret it
