not really a dig, the point is that most virtual worlds that are not using their game engines are similar in some respects to others, mainly due to the tools available.
I'm sure lavender improves on a lot of things, and after the basics of spawn entity gamepackage in transform + attach things that make avatars work beyond the baiscs in unity is done, and if it's built on having at least the functionality and ease of vrchat, I'm sure it'll be great. You've gotta give people a reason to jump though.
You have to admit vrchat team has been significantly improving the game this year though. I'm not a fan of their censorship and protection of the fee fees though.
Please make lavender distributed, peer to peer, with no centralization and zero censorship.
Make it a completely open platform with no server infrastructure (ditch pun or forge if you're using them) and make it more like zeronet and janus and you'll have a winner. Yes, lots of illegal shit might happen but it'll be so difficult to police that nobody will bother.

I've seen this to be true as well. It's easier to get with 16-25yo's as a 30 something than anyone else. (don't judge me, it's perfectly legal here). This is even true in vrchat. I know a girl that literally dated 3 different fairly well known, confidant males first in game (not roleplay erp buillshit) then got flown out to be with them because she was moderately attractive irl, and in vr felt protected and anon enough to be herself. What she didn't realize is that VR is so immersive that it's like going to a bar, and what would be "meh" flirting over discord or sms tinder snapchat whatever is turned up to fucking 3000% in vrchat with always on voice chat and real body language.
If only more girls had vr, it might solve the dating crisis.

You could have a flare that hangs for longer then the animation cutoff time, you just have the animation turn the emission of your flare particle system on - the animation resetting won't remove your particle and flare will hang for as long as you set it to be alive in the particle system. The only thing that would get rid of it would be changing avatars.

yeah from the get go I dodged using any of the crap frameworks and tools vrchat used.
We are doing pretty much that, minimal centralization (the master server for the convenience of finding other servers) and user ran servers. zero censorship by design (I don't want to police shit like they do from the get go)
Its no peer to peer mesh networking, its client-server standard arch which is way more reliable and fitting in this case.

the main reason I'm not already shipping yet is I want to make the sandbox scripting way more flexible and able to scale to absurd levels. I've profiled out to a couple thousand players and minus the graphical burden we should be able to handle it.
I don't really care if vrchat gets better because I'm aiming for a different product now I think

Sansar and high fidelity though not real threats were saber rattling like they might be.
and two: they got unity team working with them to unfuck themselves being stuck on 5.6 which they realized a bit late was the main issue. They had to pull the bandaid off and they finally did it, but I think they underestimated that most people would be happy to re-upload their shit.
Playmaker wasn't going to work. They probably spent a lot of time working on playmmaker only to realize it was a bad idea.
They probably fought a lot internally about embracing the anime but DWANGO and vtubers made that decision for them: it's the only way to succeed.
They're now working on making a super attractive product to the right demographic so that they can continue to get funding from venture capital. VRChat remains is an absolutely massive driver of headset sales.

The Knuckles thing was a huge surge in population they were not expecting and basically shit on whatever sort of plan they had for their feature growth. here's the funny thing. The game is starting to pick up again.
Every holiday season more people get vr, which spawns more memes and videos, which blows up more vrchat streamers which drives more people into the game.
There's a slow roll that's been picking up steam daily and I'm really starting to notice. people are
coming back, big streamers picking up the game again, and 8000+ simultaneous vrchat users is not uncommon now without any major meme pushing the platform
After christmas and amd's next gen gpus drop (and a lot of people just had birthdays) expect some other meme to explode the game again.
nvidia gpus are dropping like a stone too. don't forget a good pc is the only (less so now) barrier to entry, as long as people are made aware that vrchat doesn't require vr. That remains a common misconception.

Can someone please help me? I bought an Oculus Rift on Black Friday, and it is the biggest pain in the ass to set up the sensor system. It's decently accurate once it's set up, but at the phase of "stand in the center and hold the trigger for 2 seconds" to initialize the area, I keep getting request time outs, which seem to be because it loses tracking during the 2 seconds even though I'm not moving.

What do I do?

the workflow is actually pretty easy even in blender

the basic workflow is

Mixamo is actually very good provided the model is in an A or T pose and the model is humanoid and not a robot and does not have armor, most of the time in those cases it does not make a mistake, even if it does have armor or is a robot the mistakes to fix are quite easy and fast

I haven't used it for two weeks so it's been covered with a blanket but I don't know how to clean it.

I've wiped it a few times with the cloth before and it already looked like there were one or two blotches but I didn't want to wipe harder to damage it even more. Scared of following any advice because trolls want you to ruin them. Some say you should use a duster on it first but it might spew moisture on it or press the dust particles into it and some say to make the cloth wet and others say moisture will damage your headset

It's not really possible with current headsets because of SDE and fixed focal length make reading small text a huge headache. Wait until varifocal headsets to drop in a few years. That being said, Oculus dash is pretty much all you need if you just want to squint at a desktop window and rearrange stuff in VR today. ovrdrop is the closest equivalent outside of Oculus. Bigscreen is nice and free too, but you're stuck inside their program, unlike the overlay-based programs.

I picked up Contractors VR. It's well put together, looks good, and runs great . There were only a couple active games when I played (to be fair it's 2 AM EST) but everyone who was playing was *way* better than me. I'm guessing it's mostly beta players who are now wrecking noobs.

I'd like to see run and sprint speed increases as well as the addition of a team and regular deathmatch mode. I hate waiting 8-15 seconds to respawn.

Also, here's the biggest issue. I'm 6'2 and the game refused to let me calibrate with anything less than 6'5 bordering on 6'6. This made me gigantic in comparison to other players which was a disadvantage for me.

Silly question - I've got accessories attached to a part of my avatar that has dynamic bones Specifically tiny hats on bunny ears. Despite them being seemingly in the right spot, the accessories move "out of sync" with the body, to the point where it easily clips through them. They're moving, but not as intensely as they should be, even though it seems like they're attached exactly where they need to go on the tips of the ears.

Could be a couple of things. You might want to check where the bones are parented to. Otherwise change which bone is the root bone (eg: make it the base of the ear rather than the head bone).

I just dragged it into the hierarchy, have tried it at a few different positions - the ears have four bones each, with 4 being the one for the tip. That's where I have them now because the problem seems to be "least" dramatic there. The 2 bone of each ear is the one where the dynamic starts.

If you want it to be in the right spot you'll have to take it into blender, slap it in place, merge the meshes, and weight it to the bone. All very easy considering it's sitting on an end bone. You can just use the vertex weight mix modifier to make all of the hat's weights assigned to the Ear4 bone without any fucking about painting.

Some of that. Reimporting is quick, just delete toes and jaw bone and you're done rigging. You can copy the vrc_avatar descriptor module from your current avatar and paste it onto your new one, then assign the correct body for blend shapes to skip lining up the viewball and assigning all the visemes. You could always use less dynamic bones too though again it's just copy, paste, reassign root bone.

I've fucked with a couple of MMD models before but I've never made anything of my own or even really frankensteined anything, I've just been using the same basic MMD avatar for over a year now. Blender is a fucking nightmare and makes me want to die every time I have to do anything with it that isnt' covered in the Megatutorial, but Unity is usually easy to work with, I just don't do this often enough to reliably remember what's what.

Half of the people got a black screen + orange light, half got "oculus runtime service could not be started" errors. Either way you got a black screen. Everyone got rolled back to a version of the software from literally a year ago if you reinstalled during that time.

And if you reinstall now (since they apparently rolled out a fix for it), you have a chance of it saying it failed to reinstall and to restart your computer (which doesn't fix it, it'll keep saying that). That's the point I'm at currently.
