How is a narrow field of view "better coverage"? Additionally, rift's solution has both a high CPU overhead and a high USB bandwidth overhead whereas the steamvr tracking solution does all the hardwork using onboard ARM processors and only sends vector data over USB. Also, less cables around your room.

Literally the only things bad about steamvr tracking is that the only manufacturer offering trackers built to that standard so far is HTC and the fact that the lighthouses have high RPM spinning drums that WILL eventually fail. But from a standpoint of accuracy and usability, nothing at the consumer level beats them.

I have both and the lighthouses lose tracking far more often because there's no third angle of reference. If you're facing towards one and block it, there's no way it's going to defy the laws of physics. Three sensor setup eliminates this.

With the addition of this new avatar inspection system, you can see exactly what is making someone's avatar "poor", eventually the SDK will start blocking those "poor" or even "medium" avatars. Sure we'll still be able to modify the SDK, but since you can be inspected, any user can then report you for modifying the SDK. Eventually we're all going to be effectively restricted to boring ass avatars with only 2 materials on a 256x256 atlas despite there already existing a system that allows us to block "poor" avatars.

Feels somewhat more janky than Onward and Pavlov but not terrible. Hitboxes aren't as tight as Pavlov, but damage is more realistic. Weapons feel more distinctive than Onward, and are more interactive, like you have to press the bolt release with your off-hand, rather than just a button, and you can hold some guns by the mag well or grip. The jank is because it's still missing a handful of QoL tweaks. I've been asking for haptic feedback when hovering over an item on your belt, and the belt has been a source of ire since the start of the beta when it was IK relative rather than HMD relative. A fully adjustable belt is coming, hopefully with my haptic feedback. An LOD fix is also in the works so you don't get that solid minute of judder at the start while they're all popping in.

Hopefully, I remember getting good frames during the soccer viewing too with all cutouts. It's important to note that the cutouts were also not skinned mesh renderers. Sending the IK calculations over the wire can't remove the skinned part, so pushing 40 avatars worth of skinned vertices and drawcalls to the GPU every frame might still be the ultimate bottleneck, IK or no.

it only works with obj and ply but you could save-as from blender first then bring the mesh back in after retopo. Downside is weight painting, which you would need to redo yourself.
I would recommend doing something like chopping your head off, and exporting an obj of the body, and then attaching the retopo'd mesh to your previous body using cats to save time and shapekeys.
they look really really good though when done, this tool creates very well aligned decimation essentially

yes, you would need to re-create your own uv map and paint by hand or at least cut and paste the previous textures onto the new atlas.
it's highly useful for things like props or uncolored meshes for maps and other things like that, but if you wanted to use an extremely high polycount model as a base it's just another tool in the bag
Modo integrated this though so if you could get your hands on that you could use it to retopo the whole thing and export to fbx without losing textures/materials.

one, it's very fast and provides feedback in realtime,
Two, you can define via manual brush strokes the curvature of parts of a mesh to better define what should be "paid attention to" by the remesh algo, allowing you to avoid blowouts, pyramiding and holes in areas that matter. It's pretty good for organics with sharp, abruptly ended dense areas like fingers. The fact that you can "draw on" where it should do bezier or spirals, basically defining loops with a "hint" is very useful.
If you've ever done manual retopology it works like that, but way, way faster and you don't actually have to click out all the quads yourself.

manual re-topology in blender involves creating another mesh and then doing a "shrink wrap" like you would do to fit clothing to your model, it's a long and arduous process
