My sincere advice to anyone who's new(ish) and is having problems integrating into meetups - come to an EU meet. We usually have 10ish people around, almost everyone's really friendly and approachable (especially when it comes to newbies) and you probably won't feel left out. Played some nu-beat saber. It feels pretty similar to before, visually and mechanically. Maybe the blocks are higher resolution now? I think they increased the block speed on some of the default songs expert+ modes, but layout is still the same. It's a little weird, I'm playing at high A/low S rank on expert+ for all the default songs, but I have 1000+ global rank on some of the songs like pop stars, but low 100s on the rest, like the actual beat saber song. Like people just give up and farm pp instead, I suppose.

It renders in the forward Z direction according to your gameobject, e.g. use it with the default unity quad. You can edit the hard-coded float3(0,0,-1) in the shader if you want it to show in a different direction. The "Dot Sharpness" property controls how tight the dot is. The dot is at optical infinity, but the modification if you want parallax/holo sight is relatively simple, I think. same with drawing a reticle from a texture instead of a dot. I might try that later.

Did the holo sight, with custom reticle texture and virtual distance. It's hard to tell in the video, but the reticle is at a virtual 10 meters, so it has the same parallax as the second target from the front.

Any texture with an alpha channel should work. The center of the texture will be centered at (0,0,distance) in model coordinates, so again use a unity quad or something with the same model orientation. the "tiling" params of the texture will affect the scale of the reticle, and virtual distance is same.

It did sum up my feelings on that last game, but it's not really the player's fault. Contractors is just really early and isn't set up well. The maps encourage spawn camping in how they're set up, and the game modes are set up such that those who play objectives get farmed by kills for those who don't. It's logically the most effective way to play though, have 2-3 roaming kill whores camping as close to the enemy spawn as they can while 1-2 camp points. The neutralization phase encourages this behavior even more strongly since the best way to stop them from neutralizing your point is to kill them before they get anywhere close to it - i.e. killing them as soon as they leave spawn.

Contractors itself encourages you to act like a nigger though. The cap points are small (small enough that a single grenade can make 60%+ of the cap area a kill zone. The cap points are also very close to the spawns. The way neutralization works both in the cap and transmittal phase is so fast that you're incentivized to kill people before they get on the point. The fact that grenades blow up too big gives you a reason to have as little presence on the point as possible (because you don't want your whole team exploding) and to fan out and kill people before they get to their spawn. The fact that physical presence on the point doesn't stop neutralization during transmission gives you even less reason to stand on the point.

The points are small and close to spawn - so the winning strat is to camp their spawns as close as you can from as many angles as you can as you keep as few people on the point as possible.

It's a fun game because the gameplay is good but they need to refine the control mode and the maps quite a bit.

Contractor's maps are absolute ass, collision detection being one of the major issues too. One of the biggest problems I have with most maps though is that the moment you take a step towards the enemy team's side of the objective, you're effectively spawn camping. Urban has plenty of avenues and buildings to go through but in order to project your area of control past the objective to better secure it, you're getting into one of probably two ways they can even get to the objective - the other way being a million mile walk. Standing on the stairs to cover the road approach to the point in the middle of traffic gives you a clear view of a massive open area just outside of their spawn before they get to the cars. Other than being among those cars, there is no other way to cover that approach to the point. You're faced with either let them come destroy you or spawn camp. Pretty much every map has this problem. I always give them a good head start on running before firing if I feel like I'm too close to their spawn. At least letting them get to cover so they could effectively duck behind it when I start shooting. Token gesture but what can you do?

They need to massively increase capture times as well as the size of the zone. Make it so the entire churchyard is a capture site, but give people more time to get on and contest or skirt around a hot zone instead of forcing them to charge into the meat grinder.

Good idea, but probably not a complete solution. The game already has effectively long timers because of long it takes to walk to the action from spawn. It's a timer + walking sim.

I think being able to explicitly choose from a few different spawn locations would be good. Gives you tactical options for your approach while not leaving as much dead-except-for-spawn-campers map geometry that you have to stroll through every life.
