So that means it has to do with a lot of factors that include both inherent hardware quality of experience, and installed base. If you're developer then you're going to look at a lot of things and weigh it all together when you make a decision.

This is good for VR. The more headsets sold in general, the higher the demand for enthusiast grade hardware.

After trying so long to not avoid it, I finally tried VR porn out of boredom. I don't think I can go back. And all I've been doing is playing WSS, I know there must be better options out there. Fuck.

It's too good. The only limitation is what is and isn't available as an MMD model. If I could reverse a VRChat model into an MMD model, and SFM models into them, too: I'd be set for life.

They still need to retarget the skeleton from SteamVR to the avatar. It is some additional work, but can be done by a competent dev in a day or two (assuming the simplest possible avatar system). Where it would get complicated is if their system is all ad-hoc spaghetti code, which would make it a total nightmare to do. I miss old vrchat.

I miss not being able to go into the cinema and watch SAO abridged with random strangers.

I miss not spawning in a central hub and seeing random strangers in a circle talking about random shit and just hanging out and enjoying the wonder of VR.

I miss how close and welcoming people were to each other. You could get close to complete strangers and pet them and admire how cool it is to see another person up close in VR. If you do that today you would get accused of harassment and blocked or worse thanks to the "safety" feature your avatar is probably blocked and you just show up as a grey ghost to them anyway.

Now everyone just spawns in their own home world and hides in private worlds. The ones in the hub and public worlds are either desktoppers who probably don't even give a shit about VR or lost russian kids.

Where did it all go so wrong?

I try to be the change I want to see and mostly stick to public instances when I'm on. I lack the social capital to drag most of my monkeysphere out of F+ and above with me, but I feel better about no longer being part of what I'd consider the problem. Yes but not how'd you'd expect. Input 2.0 is what adds it like you'd want. With 1.0, it doesn't have the input references needed to use the joystick and other options.

Funnily enough, if you're using knuckles on oculus currently, they'll have the input references needed to emulate touch controllers. For Vive, wmr, and likely index, they'll only have access to wand controls on a 1.0 game

You can copy the launch link from a worlds page on the vrchat.com website, and just set that in the steam properties for launch options. I use it to share a private launch world with somebody else so we both get to log in and calibrate fbt together.

The Touch controllers on the Rift are, in some people's eyes, still better than the Knuckles in terms of general use. But in comparison to the Vive they blow the Wands out of the water in terms of build quality, comfort, and ease of use.

Vive wands are the worst possible controller setup for vr, honestly arguably worse than just a gamepad. If you don't care about finger tracking, I think oculus controllers are the better bet, having tried both knuckles and touch

Vive has always been the cheaper option for expanding into more - FBT and now knuckles/index while oculus is cheaper out of the box. Apparently the oculus is more comfortable to wear and the controllers too.
Vive controllers are chinkshit and not terribly ergonomic and the headset isn't super comfortable. I have never broken anything of my kit despite owning it (from second hand) for close to a year now though so I think maybe the people complaining about things breaking are the problem more than the build quality. Tempted to put a weight on the back of mine so it balances a bit better and get one of those vrcovers (or make one) but too lazy. Comfortwise it's not bad but I haven't tried any of the others so it's not a direct comparison.

This is mostly bias and misinformation. Not all AA batteries are the same physical size, and thus can move around in the controller, which causes tracking issues. I have a similar issue with batteries in one of my tv remotes.

Vive wands we developed during a time when certain engineers had a vision for vr controllers that was very misguided. They thought, because they got motion sickness, everyone did, so they designed around it. Touch pad was used for teleport movement instead of walking like you would with a normal game. There's also less actual input options on the vive wand, making it harder to use for some games. And with knuckles finally coming out, more devs can push away from developing for vive wands
