A mind game

Would anyone be interested in a tutorial on formatting VROID exports for mobile vr and quest for vrchat? I've done it a few times now.
Here's the gist of it:
They look great on PC because you can use a RGBA aware shader with alpha cutout - however, they were "lazy" or rather made the design decision to use single sided 2d texture billboards for the eyebrows, eyelashes and other facial features around the eyes to make it easy for people to draw their own textures on top of super simplified UV maps. On top of that, the materials contain a couple layers with multiple textures and there's about 4 image files for 15+ materials. The cool thing is that they include sphere and normal maps though.
Due to this, if you straight try to material combine you'll end up with a broken atlas: however, if you selectively remove everything but the base atlas for each part you can get a proper UV map.
You can even go back and build the normal map out of those textures too to make your model look better than 90% of the flat looking quest models.
You then have to delete the single sided meshes around the eyes and manually paint them onto the base model's atlas.
They decimate pretty good though down to ~ 10k if you're careful or instead do it manually with a modifier on the selected bits that need less details.

I usually floated mge but made it to dmg/le both on more than one occasion
as for pavlov the basically zero second reload time means ammo is pretty much a null and void balance point for all but the 249 and revolver, but the raw dps output of any subgun bar the DAVE'd MP5 was absolutely useless, with the tacked-on armor healthbar they were absolutely garbage tier unless you ambushed someone. The M4 meta in default was enforced by law if you weren't a headshot god with the AK or somehow deagle, with every other gun having some crippling defect or having to fight through armor (AWP omitted obviously)
New config makes all three rifles competitive with the AK at least dropping them closer to death if you miss the fourth killing shot, the AK12 actually performing like a bridge between M4/AK rather than a failed abortion between the two, and the M4 still having lots of raw DPS (and likely still the best) without as much bodyshot damage as the 12 but without instant headshot either.
SMGs perform fairly well because of their RPM, with all of them more or less untouched aside from no longer treating armor as a healthbar and instead just depleting it slightly while dealing their damage as usual. The old system resulted in lots of SMG "trades" where you would land 4-6 hits and they'd be near full health still, because you only damaged their armor bar significantly and not their hp
Instead of trying to shoehorn the entire smg class into a role of "depleting armor," they're an actual fair eco run instead of just going naked

The Rift is probably the best option right now. The controllers are better, it's slightly cheaper than the Vive, and it's pretty much good enough.

But if you're considering upgrading eventually, the Vive has a strong case. Index is likely going to be the new de-facto standard, at least in terms of controller, and with base stations you can easily upgrade each piece individually, rather than having to buy the entire thing again. Plus you can use the Vive controllers for feet trackers.

If you can wait and you can afford it, the index will be objectively the best vr experience for some time.
Don't let people tell you the rift S isn't a great headset though, for 400$, it's fantastic, with slightly better tracking in some ways to windows mixed reality and very easy setup.
It also has a nice sweet spot but no ipd adjustment.
If you can't wait, or can't stomach 1000$, consider the HP Reverb for $599. It's by far the best picture of any headset out there.
The Samsung OD+ can be had for $299 and it's also incredibly good for the money.

Windows mixed reality tracking is better in some ways to the rift s, but the controllers are slightly inferior.

I would not get a vive or vive pro, they're significantly overpriced, and there's no news on the vive cosmos yet, though I suspect it'll be pretty competitive to the rift S, and quite a bit better specs wise.

Yeah, they don't work, especially on grip buttons. I tried it out on the menu button at first, and it outright failed about 20% of the time, and the remaining 80% it added an utterly unacceptable amount of latency for anything I'd be pressing with any kind of frequency.

On grip buttons, it outright fails about 70% of the time, I generally have to stand there tapping the button for a solid 5 seconds before the gun actually drops.

Also if you're extraordinarily tech savvy the Pimax 5k+ with the sword sense controllers is a good buy for people who don't mind fiddly configuration software, the FOV increase is mind blowing and they're incredibly comfortable and light on your head, but they're not for everyone. Pimax does support oculus home AND viveport though, which is a weird but neat thing.
You can get them on amazon now but honestly, they are FIDDLY.
The distortion profile is fucked out of the box and you need to update a lot to get it to a nice workable state but it's a great headset if you can get it at a discount with one of the better visual experiences.
I'm 100% certain that Pimax's gen 3 headset will blow everything out of the water or at least be a strong competitor to the index since they're one of the only other companies licencing valve's lighthouse and controller technology besides acer(starvr), VRGeneers XTAL, and of course htc: and this lack of top shelf vr is likely what prompted them to create a first party headset, since nobody seemed willing to take the leap and bring a product to market with their backing after both oculus AND htc cucked them hard on back end agreements.
Fun fact: some people at valve are quoted as being fucking pissed htc is putting a huge markup on the vive products. They still have a good relationship with HTC but it's not what the main drivers of the lighthouse and steamvr team wanted, they wanted an at cost headset to kickstart the whole industry, which is why they were working so closely with oculus and giving away technology to them.

Valve even completely re-wrote Wine to make it basically ON PAR with windows for DX12 and Vulkan games. Pretty soon none of us will need to use windows anymore, even for VR. I use move on right hand, turn on left. Every other game I've tried, there's a lefty flip. Anton managed to forget to include this.

Honestly, I'm far more upset about Valve literally removing functionality for no possible reason. I remember what it was like last week, you could bind 20-30 commands to any button you wanted. Now? The fifty-seven is a really good gun. Damages through armour, pings helmets at any range, has a large mag, low recoil, nice sights, bonus of having pistol slot usage so putting it away doesn't make the game think you're lifting the gun to shoot so you don't slow from sprinting, kills in I think 5 body shots. It's the best eco gun in the game and can be effectively used one handing with a live grenade in the other.
