You have depth perception so you have to focus on things close and far away because there's a separate screen with a different view for each eye. You can see the edges of the screen like you're wearing goggles but you can look around with your eyes at the corners. It's not completely limited to looking just straight forward but except for I think the pimax or whatever headset it won't cover your entire peripheral vision. Moving your head tracks 1:1 for your in game camera movement so it feels like you're really looking around. Your arms and body are often rendered in too and the IK (some math the game does to calculate position) is usually pretty good at matching up to where your body is irl. It's about as good as you're going to get. Lots of videos of people instinctively trying to put their weight on something virtual and falling over which should be a good indicator that your brain can and does get tricked into thinking it's actually there. Then there's also phantom sense which is a whole 'nother ball game but not everyone gets that.

I make do with a 1.8x2m square when I flip my bed against the wall. Most room scale stuff suggests 2x2m. Tracking is always 1:1 so however far you move irl you move in game. More often than not though you can use directional keys on your controllers to move around the world if the world is smaller than your playspace.

I'd have to drill holes in the ceilings and I use VR both in my study where it's more convenient and in the lounge which has more space but I have to move everything there.

So that's two rooms with holes drilled in the ceilings and then there's hooks and shit...it's a hard sell to the wife and a bunch of work to install, vs just getting a wireless.
Also, I keep wrapping myself in the cord too, Vivecraft seems to be a bit rough on tethers.

I think I'm definitely getting one, it's just a question of whether TPCast has any downsides, since it's half the price of the Vive one. The actual difference isn't so large that any serious downside would dissuade me though.

It's an OOOOOooooold TF2 map. Oldest evidence I can find is it existing back in 2010. My reviews of VR after my first 3 weeks:

1) Oculus setup / First Contact - Very cool and cute way to be introduced to VR, a nice surprise as I didn't know this existed. My family liked it. I think more could have been done with environments. 8/10

2) Oculus Dreamdeck - Shitty, insubstantial tech demo that goes nowhere and shouldn't exist 2/10

3) Robo Recall - So much fun and not just because of the VR honeymoon period, the physicality of ripping apart robots is viscerally satisfying, I pray for Robo Recall 2, 9/10

4) Google Earth VR - Very impressive but I think the ground resolution isn't where we want it yet 7/10

5) Sprint Vector - I love this, it's the first game I've played that makes me feel something other than physically feeble, no online players but I don't care, I don't like how the courses are quite obstacle oriented though, it breaks flow 8/10

6) VR Chat - Largely shit experience due to thoroughly boring inhabitants, I watched Alien on a roof top cinema tho, was quite good but nobody wanted to discuss shit after, then I joined some group of people who were watching some of most autistic shitty anime "funny" videos and I just quit because I can't stand people with such awful fucking taste. I've yet to have a positive experience with this 3/10

7) Mission: ISS - Incredible tour of the ISS, loved this, zero g locomotion is probably the most immersive movement I've experienced so far

8) VR Pokerhouse - People are much more fun to talk to in this than in VR Chat, they actually have personalities and like to interact, I feel like I could make friends here, still too many mutes tho 9/10

9) Payday 2 - I loved the original Payday, I've never played Payday 2 before so got to experience it in VR first and it's terrific, although button turning can be awkward. I checked how it played in pancake mode and as I suspected it's far less fun, akimbo guns feel cool in VR 9/10

10) Elite Dangerous - Oculus Touch needs optimising, cool game 7/10

At this point Vive's only saving grace is native FBT support and compatibility with Index. If those aren't interesting to you you'd be better off with Samsung Odysseys+, RiftS or even the CV1 Rift if you can find on that isn't busted for cheap.

It's still decent enough if you get it at a low price like $200-300 for full kit since you can reuse the base stations with Index stuff and can retrofit the dildos as trackers.

I put the controllers at the fullest extent where the lights can still be see, took a birds' eye photo then measured the angle. It's probably useless because I don't know where the convergence point would be for a screen focused at two meters through two lenses.
