I'm conflicted on my Quest. On one hand it's impressive, I can take it travelling, it's like having my own personal cinema, and dedicated VR porn machine, and has IPD adjustment. Browsing the chans on a big picture is also pretty fun.

On the other the store is fucking barren of content even compared to the PSVR, the screen door is somehow more noticable than the PSVR even if it's technically better looking screen door, the glare off whites when things get dark are distracting and immersion breaking, and it's uncomfortable after long periods due to the weight. And it cost £400.

I don't know whether to keep it for the good points, and treat it like a particularly expensive porta-TV/cheap laptop, or return it and put the extra money towards getting a Valve Index with my new PC instead.

Is the Rift S basically visually identical to the Quest, aside from the graphics being pushed by my PC? Screen door the same and white-on-black glare shit present?

I'm gonna get a VR headset in the near future, so I'm kind of keeping an eye on the local tech marketplaces. A friend has a vive so that seems like the obvious choice because I'm already familiar with it and it's very comfy to use, BUT, the Rift CV1 is being sold at a far lower pricepoint (a good 100 eurobucks cheaper) and I know literally nothing about rifts. Should I just stick with what I know, or is the difference between a vive and the CV1 negligible?

Does warranty carry over with used stuff over there? If not I would be wary of buying any of the VR headsets used just in case something does break which it might. As far as comfort of use, Rift S is definitely the best. Quest even more so but it's not PC VR. All headsets so far have some quality control issues down to a certain percentage, it's not a huge difference, though there is consistent breakage of touch pads on the Vive over time, consistent breakage in one of the wires on the Rift CV1 over time, and what seems to be a high percentage of Index controllers with thumbsticks that don't work perfectly. Rift S and Quest actually don't seem to have any huge manufacturing flaw so far but it hasn't been out for as long.

ideally you want them matching locations on the avatar, but that depends on the model's proportions (armspan to height matters, it will take some trial and error)

A pair of clean old shoes where you can lace the trackers on top is my recommendation because it gives you foot rotations. Hip tracker should be somewhere your body doesn't get between the lighthouses when sitting or laying down. On the side of your hip is usually best.

If your absolute top priority is visual fidelity, there are options like the Odyssey+ which are quite nice (probably not quite index level, but definitely above RiftS or either of the first-gen kits). Also the Reverb if they ever get that shit straightened out.

Tracking though is definitely not great. Serviceable but there are a few annoyances that you never quite get over. The best way I've heard it put was

Just a bit of a dumb idea, but there are many different fractured base locations, not much of a hub. - how large the system is, can anons use it for resource gathering
- how many planets are even necessary

- how local economies of systems effect the missions for freighter missions

It uses a 1/4-20 bolt super common thread size. Try a different one or something there's could be a burr. That plastic bit you jammed in the hole for whatever reason is a drywall anchor. It goes in the wall then you run the screw into it and it expands and seals itself in place.

Just to add that 1/4-20 is the major diameter and thread pitch. So the machine bolt you need would be 1/4" across and have 20 threads per inch. I sincerely hope you weren't trying to put a woodscrew in there or something.

As far as tacked on vr goes, it's surprisingly good. The only waggle problem is with beating the shit out of plants when you've run out of fuel for your miner. Grab and pull to activate some things and reaching over your shoulder to pull out weapons and switch on your visor is neat. Flight has motion controls.
Biggest issue is that it's forced seated because the HUD stays in place and doesn't turn when you do.

The reason I haven't got them on tables already is because I definitely have to mount them. I could "technically" work it but to get proper coverage I have to put one on either the kitchen counter or stovetop because the only room in my apartment with enough space is the living room+kitchen. This happens if they go out of sync with the connection points. A tracker is a type of controller, and they 'mount' to specific endpoints. The headset has two, and can support two controllers. So that's why you have three dongles, one for each tracker.
So what you probably did is exhaust your endpoints accidentally by having one endpoint marked as used when it wasn't.
I recommend repairing everything, and then with 'manage trackers' stick your trackers to have positions instead of being generic controllers.

Closing in on world release, so here's a small update to the avatar weapons guide. Enemies are still hurt by colliding your particles with layer 29, but I've moved player health and armor to stereoleft and stereoright (15 & 16) to fix a physics layer bug that vrchat causes at runtime. If for some reason you want to pvp you should change those layers.

Again, collisions are limited to once per frame per particle system, so if you have shotgun or something on your avatar that does simultaneous collisions you'll want a separate particle system for each pellet.

Eh. Controllers are the best thing about it but the headset itself is beat by the index, vive pro, and samsung wmr. Refresh rate of the rift s caps out at 80hz while everything else is at 90 (sans index at 144) so even the regular vive is basically on-par. Software is zucc'd with CPU raping tracking processing camera streams where vive/index use IR lighthouses as reference points and do all the processing in headset rather than by your computer. Inside out tracking being good is a meme and was the main problem with WMR to begin with. The oculus dash is better than the steam overlay objectively though. This is to say nothing of additional trackers, the hell that is hybrid setups, and the possibility of partial upgrades to index. I'd trust an OG vive over the rift s. Although they are the worst controllers button layout-wise, they are far from irredeemable.

Nothing as easy. If you don't need to actually stream stuff live then you can host .mp4 files over HTTP anywhere (dropbox is popular, or a cheap VPS). Technically vrchat should play any HLS-based stream, so you can set up nginx-rtmp and OBS if you have sufficient autism for that. I've looked into it before, there's unfortunately no great guide I've found.
