the Oculus had the right idea, just take a controller, make it's arrangement symmetrical, and split it in half. And then make the buttons touch capacitive so the controlelr knows when you are not touching them, which makes for semi-finger tracking. the controller knows when you are pointing, or making a fist, or giving a thumbs up.

but the vive dildos are first of all, fucking dildos and not ergonomic at all, and rely almost entirely on that stupid touchpad, because Valve is enamored with it for some reason.

there's a reason when Valve went their own way with the Index they just expanded upon what the oculus controllers did, but with actual full finger tracking.

Does anyone else with an Oculus headset get a consistent hand tracking stutter in the Oculus build of VRChat? When I open Dash (so I can see the Oculus hands overlayed on top of VRChat), the Oculus hands move smoothly. So it's clear that it's not an FPS issue. I'm just wondering if it's my machine only, or if the build has problems talking to the Oculus runtime or something, which seems like the problem here. No other games including the SteamVR build of VRChat has this problem. And I would just use that version, but I don't like that SteamVR adds latency/smoothing to your hands.

We did the slow motion bank, but none of the footage was really interesting, just people running around in slow motion and the femas's recoil being painfully highlighted. The zero G map was a ton of fun though, all of the bodies flying around in the middle of combat was awesome.

I have both XSOverlay and OVRToolkit. I like XSoverlay quite a bit better. Functionality-wise they're pretty much the same, but xsoverlay has a lot more UI polish. Interacting with windows is a lot snappier, the window selection menu is less clunky than ovrtoolkit, the keyboard works better somehow too. If you've used oculus dash, it's the closest you can get to that feeling on steamvr.

If you already have ovrtoolkit, it's marginal whether it's worth another $10. You're just missing UI polish, and I've seen some updates to ovrtoolkit that bring it closer to parity recently. If you don't have either though, I'd highly recommend xsoverlay. Both are far better than the native steamvr desktop overlay.

I'm not quite sure yet if just anyone can go but in any case I was planning on prehosting a visit/intro to the platform next Saturday around this time for those interested. We'll try to reserve seats for the coming conference while we're there.
It's features primarily lecture based content with a few interactable worlds. Aside from that it's your standard metaverse-lite platform with about what you'd expect, 3 point tracking, locomotion, avatars, etc. The content that is there seems to be of decent quality at least and put together by actual professors/TA's from various universities.
I think we'll screw around for a bit and watch a few lectures on whatever the group decides. They have everything from interplanetary physics to jungle cat ecology.
