For about 25-30 minutes I was stuck with the error, but I retained my position in the queue despite the problems when giving my shipping details. Vive wands are garbage. They may not require replacing every few months, but they almost inevitably break and they're terrible to use anyway. I'm not going to argue that the Index is very much an incremental upgrade over other headsets, but the Index CONTROLLERS are far better than wands, and when they break at least you CAN get RMA instead of fucked over by HTC. They still fall short of the Oculus Touch controllers, though.

Actually an interesting point, one of the dancers I know only uses wands because he can't let go of the touch/index controllers when he's doing handstands and flips.

The grip triggers on vive wands are dogshit. Yes, it's binary, but it's a lot less comfortable to use. Tweak the sensitivity and the Index controllers are nice.

The only fingers I ever have trouble with are the pinky and ring, and that's usually if I've been taking the controller off and putting it back on. A few 'hand exercises' gets it calibrated usually, and if all else fails restarting the controller resets the calibration entirely. I've gotten pretty handy with triggering gestures/expressions.

My experience with Index has been that i can make the right gesture about 95-98% of time but sometimes the grip fingers fail to activate just the right way.

With Wands you just slide your thumb across the edge of the touchpad to correct spots. It's 99.5% certainty that you have it at the right spot.

With touch there's no question about which buttons you're touching or pressing either, there's no ambiguity about the grip fingers.

Index uses the finger tracking. So you do the actual gesture with your hand IRL, and it triggers the associated expression. Thumbs up, finger gun, etc.

Index is similar to Rift for gestures but much, much worse. It's impossible to know if you're actually triggering the override or if one of your fingers is 1% off. The sensors are so inaccurate that you sometimes cannot control it accurately enough to even do a gesture because a finger is stuck, or the wrong ones are moving.

Wands require you to think a bit different. Neutral position is when you're not touching anything instead of when you kind of hold on to things neutrally.

Also I tended to think more in terms of facial expressions than hand expressions as sliding your fingers across the rim to combine expressions is pretty fast.

I bet you have mad face on fingerpoint as that's the easiest spot to touch. You may wanna swap them around a bit to get the most common ones in top half.

Run lighthouse_console.exe

type unpairall then hit enter

now start up steam vr and re-pair everything, starting with your controllers first

You'll never have the problem again as long as you always turn your controllers on first, before your trackers

One of the big problems with VRChat is how nothing is very tactile. I'm aware this is a problem for VR in general, given that there's still no technology to give us any real resistance when moving and interacting with things. But look at Rec Room - while the UI is quite childish and sometimes cumbersome, it's _very_ tactile. All the buttons are physically pressed in. Meanwhile, VRChat is still heavily focused on laser pointers, and even when physical buttons are used, you just press a button on your controller when you hand is close to the button in 3d space, rather than physically pushing the button (which makes way more sense in terms of a real world/ immersion).

This shit extends to interactivity with other players. I want some physics based interactions. I want my hand to actually touch the other person rather than playing pretend and hovering my hand where the other person's body starts.

I couldn't get mine to work for ages. It's a pain in the ass because you have no indication that it's working and need to ask other people in-game.
Microphone app permissions needs to be turned on but probably already is if it works in other games. I think Pavlov needs the Rift mic set to default communication device in windows sound control panel, that could be the issue. Also the mic volume needs to be high because Pavlov voice is very quiet.

Changing the mic volume via the dash is the same as in windows. Are you on a CV1 or Rift S? Apparently the CV1 had issues with automatic gain control making the mic too quiet in some games and Pavlov is one of them. Not sure if that applies to the Rift S too.
