I mean, it's working for me too. Kinda. Got a GTX 1660 Super now upgraded from a1080 Ti. Without looking now, you can probably guess based on my GPU that my other specs are kinda "eh". I think the main reason is that it doesn't meet modern quality control standards. A large developer doesn't want to release a game that isn't as visually perfect as their flat screen competitors. VRlets often react negatively to VR footage because it doesn't have the fidelity they expect. Some don't even understand exactly what roomscale and motion controllers are and perceive it as quick time event animations instead of actual user actions. The number of people who can actually appreciate the advances in control that VR provides is very small. Even within /vrg/, I'd say it's 10% or less that actually appreciate VR as anything more than a social platform.

I have a model in blender, its a MMD model that I modified it seems like it works, when I pose it it works very well, but when I import it to unity for whatever reason the left leg is flipped and below the origin plan Its also all fucked up in terms of its faces. It doesn't happen with the right leg, the right leg looks fine.

SL is pretty crazy. Its fucked up because of the dystopian in-game currency system that Linden Labs developed and admittedly there kinda is a lot of cringy shit in there, but you can do a lot in SL.
The SL community, like 'em or fear 'em, is pretty thriving... Years of development and all sorts of crazy shit like how they implemented the whole BDSM thing (don't ask how I know about this. I regretted this adventure intensely).
You have this weird map you can fly around and I have to admit, it does seem like an appealing thing.

I think if you had a Second Life world, with the possibility of any sort of mature or adult content blocked off in certain areas and you can make whatever, but with the VRChat idea of it just basically being a place to hang out and chat without the bizarrely serious autism and economic system, that would be pretty amazing.

not sure what you mean by adding shading to a place that "has no geometry". you can bake ambient occlusion in blender which will give you a texture of shaded areas i guess, but that depends on having triangles with UVs. For specular highlights, those are dependent on view direction anyway, so you're best off using a shader, or just hand painting stuff that you think always needs to be there like cheek shine.

Not me. I have never said it's good with Link. I have only ever shilled it based on the dependence that you also use a good 5 GHz wireless router with it. With Link, it's just worse than Rift S. But if wireless, then it can begin to compete. Also Rift S doesn't have hardware IPD adjustment so some people just can't use it, and for them I'd only recommend Quest, or maybe Index, or Vive if you can get one cheap enough.

This is the MMS3 shader, it's pretty based and you get really good results from just the default settings.
Can be tweaked around with 1-2 more matcaps. I recommend this to anyone new to avatars/Unity/Can't be arsed to mess with a billion shader settings to avoid looking hideous.

People kept saying the Quest could be used for games and shit and getting you into VR without anything really unexpected so long as you use a Link then on top of that, it seems I can do other things with it like play untethered which seemed like a good option. Thinking about it, I wonder if my experience in VRChat would change since I got a Link... Not that that makes it worth it. I am currently working on a mod where, using 3D printed counterweights for a Quest headset, you can atomize clones of your own VRChat avatar waifu complete with the personality and voice of whatever user you want to simulate rape with and bring said clone into the real world.

Trying to revive in from the dead 6 ft under. Studying the way vket4 did their submission system with shared assets. That might be the best way to go about it for sure.

Aiming to make it look like rooms for now. Tolerance for map size looking at upper limit 300mb for everything.
I've managed to make a booth 10mb in size after compression and it has a lot of shit in it.
With good planning of shared assets across worlds, we can have a huge school complex with houses around that people can costumize.

As much as I would like it to be a single map, we may need to break it up to multiple ones if we truly want more customization. Tempted to just make each room house a portal teleporter to an anon's world with the cube map of their world activating as a preview before you decide to go into the specific room portal.

and a 3rd thing, I'm certain that we can keep it under 150mb if we properly bake lightmaps, use proper image compression and have no unoptimised meshes. I'd say a fully decorated 3 story house with many interior details can be kept well below 50 megabytes. VRChat creators are just retarded and use a bazillion texels, uncompresed images and overly high density meshes for everything

Theater stage would be great. Usually these are repurposed gymnasium as well. Gyms have a stage set in japan to make the building dual purpose.

I'd love the idea of an optimised all in one meetup world. The only problem is with how many people we have "optimised" generally just means empty, bland, and boring. It just needs to have the rooms big enough so it can fit a bunch of people and enough rooms that if we have a shittonne of people the others get culled behind the walls.
Also please add a gym with free weights for us stronk avatars.

Possibly instead of making unique rooms per person we can just slap a picture or nametag for each room. Since it won't be the main focus for an all-in meet-up world. World portals on each room though as per anon's world_id links.

This will allow optimized thing to occur. Another thing here is with a pre-fab bakery system it will help in making the world more optimized as well.

Then depending on the various group types in /vrg/ we can create unique spots wherein people submit their contributions to decorate the place with their creations.

As you said, the gym for the stronk guys, the theatre of theatre peeps, the music room for the musically inclined, the science lab, the classroom, the clubroom, the basement, the roof top, the cherry blossom tree etc... etc...

Though it is true there are already japanese school uploads in VRC it's all game rips and badly done at that.

I don't think it's possible to make an all-in-one meetup world that'll please everybody. For whatever aesthetic you choose, it'll just grow old after a few hours; vrchat is just too limited to pack in much variety into a single map. Like, the great pug, or silent beach are good, well-optimized maps, but it all gets old eventually.

Not to say you shouldn't still aim to make a great japanese high school map with good occlusion zones. That sounds great. It'd be fun if you could rip the scenes from, say, Artificial Academy 2.

Imagine if their is an asset streaming functionality in VRchat wherein you can place priority on what loads first depending on your avatar's player local location.

You can have a whole 5GB game world load in bit by bit no problem like an open world mmo.
That or a pre-download function like pavlov wherein favorited maps has an option of being permanently saved in your cache for ease of access in the future.

That was one of the cool things of high fidelity; maps streamed in as you walked around. NeosVR has some streaming as well, you can walk and talk to people as the rest of the environment loads in. I don't think neos (or hifi, RIP) has asset _unloading_ though, which is equally as important if you want to walk around a huge environment without running out of RAM.

As long as it isn't too spread out. I haven't figured out what makes it happen but if the spawn area is a nice place to sit and talk then people just don't leave it. They'll naturally gravitate to something, I'm not sure what, and if it's really spread out then no one is going to go that far. Comparing the atoll map to the great pug and the madcat. No one hangs even near spawn in the madcat and runs all the way to the actual building for it despite it being really far away. The great pug's spawn is really cramped and a lot of areas have tables around which limit the amount of space so people move about all the time. Atoll of aether people sit right in spawn where it's nice and spacious overlooking the rest of the map and just don't explore the rest of it resulting in them all crammed in talking over each other.
There's some psychology to it but I don't quite get it.

I like the narrower "entryway" that maps like the great pug do, or mogra. It is hard to do on a school map though.

If you use SDK3, you can fairly easily make a minimap of populated areas in your map, and add teleports to particular players. That might be a good way to have a fairly large map but not have the problem of everybody bunching up at spawn because it's too hard to find out where people went.
