To be brutally honest nothing I've seen in vrchat has really jumped out and impressed me as "wow that's great". But I do understand that peoples creations, even booth artists are very much on the hobby/amateur side and I shouldn't expect triple A studio tier modelling. I will however say the better/decent things I see are ones that have a full compliment of texture maps, normal/ao/spec/roughness etc with correctly set up shaders. Then there's actual character concept to take into consideration because there's rarely any OC seen it's usually existing characters/rips or very generic looking booths. A lot of the 2nd part is very much personal taste but you can tell when a character has gone through multiple iterations and been refined from the ground up. Anything completely asymmetrical/mirror modeled looks pretty low effort and uninspiring in my eyes because ultimately it just looks too synthetic.

You can put a collider on the head, but it won't have any force on the character controller if it collides. You can apply velocity to the player in opposition if you can do the depenetration logic yourself. Roughly, I think you'd want to keep track of the head position in the last frame, and do a Physics.Raycast to the current frame. If it's in something, get the difference from the intersection point, then apply that velocity backwards. It won't be perfect if the player like resets their position in a single frame, so you probably want a backup that checks if the head has been in a kill zone for N seconds, then just respawn the player somewhere static.

If disgust is supposed to protect you from disease and you keep noting that disease does in fact not occur, and this lack of happening keeps happening, maybe you can reassess the phenomena and lose the disgust reaction - or at least be aware that it happens for dumb reasons that you should ignore.

Yeah, VRoid is about as close to VRChat model creator as it gets (except for Tafi, but weebs don't appreciate art). You still have to fix it up in Blender a bit and upload through Unity, but it's not as painful as trying to upload a MMD model that has some jap curse on it.
Problem with Booth is a lot of the models are rated very poor out of the box and they come as unity packages so fixing them up in Blender is a bit more complicated.

This was done with an xbone kinect in an almost ideal setup, but there's still about 200ms of latency for the leg/hip movements while it processes it, so it looks worse on the local side. You're limited to a front-facing 45 degree arc, it has trouble detecting sitting poses and laying down is almost impossible. I used it for a year before moving onto trackers like everyone else. I know nobody left in vrchat who still uses a kinect.

It's also important to know xbone kinects are cheap, practically free, but they need an adapter for pcs and that cable costs hundreds because microsoft haven't made them for years. The custom adapter is essentially a usb3 type B with an extra 12 volt rail alongside and an AC adapter to get it. Learn to solder, find an old power brick to get it the extra 12 volts, strip the brick's wires and solder it onto the pcb. You might need a compatible usb3 pcie card too, it can only connect to a few usb controllers until the firmware updates so unless you got it from someone who had already successfully connected it to a pc you might be gambling with cards for a while.

so yeah, almost free, but a lot of practical work for results much worse than trackers. If you have the money, get trackers and lighthouses.
