As a n00b to VR, should I refrain from certain types of games until I get past the motion sickness stage or should I just go balls deep?

Actually they're not too bad. VTOL VR especially never gave me motion sickness but pavlov did. I think it's something to do with having the stationary cockpit around you to help orient yourself.
VRChat even I had to use teleport for a while but I'm completely through it now. Hours on end of pavlov no trouble.

This is normal in any conversation outside of VRchat too, ya gotta realize. You gotta talk to people in order to get talked back at. If you want to be a person that gets orbitted then you have to be attention getting and well known.
Fortunately, VRchat is a pretty safe place in the sense that you can just chill and watch/listen if you want, or browse the web on an overlay while others chat, etc. You can log out anytime you want if you feel uncomfortable. I think its dumb to give into the society expectation that you have to be an engaging casanova: being quiet is fun. Granted, if being orbitted is what you truly want, you gotta work for it. You can keep talking to people, you can work on avatars to either make them prettier or more attention getting.
The only time vrchat becomes dangerous if you get involved in stupid high school level erper drama.

The problem with modded is that there's no good premade packs, and making one yourself is kinda hard to balance right, I'm in the process of getting back into MC after a long hiatus, and learning mods. There are actually a few people that have been asking for a forge modded server ever since I started the vanilla server, because "vanilla too boring". We briefly tried a 1.12.2 modded server, and it was fun, but performance was awful. 1.16 forge with vivecraft is supposedly better on that front. However, another person who has been testing mods in 1.16 vivecraft says it's still super buggy, e.g. trying to go to the nether crashes the whole game, with just a few basic mods installed. It'd take some effort to curate a working (and reasonably balanced) modpack as you say.

Shit son, I remember ages ago, we had similar arguments to this nonsense when some people wanted /vrg/ to stop being friends+ and go to private instances only, to avoid whatever it was we were arguing about at the time. Around the time that VRC changed the way instances worked and we started hanging out in Friends+ and they promptly got told to fuck off, because nobody cared and we were adamant we weren't gonna gatekeep because that was for fags.

Allow me to interject for a moment - something that's been made clear to me with /vrg/ is that I really /am/ a weirdo autismo. The vast majority of /vrg/ are 'normal' - just go to any NA meetup and everyone is all buddy buddy, loud and chatty. New idea: Greeting as gatekeeping.

If you see someone you don't know at a meetup, don't ignore them. First, check if someone is already talking with them, if they are you don't have to do anything. If they're alone, go over talk to them and find out if they're a newfriend from the thread or a rando. If they're a rando, kick them.

I checked and for some reason the working slime has different order of materials (eyes mat below the slime mat). But how do I do this? Just moving materials up and down in blender under Materials tab doesn't effect their ordering in unity.

You don't need to to split armature just save this as blender file, append it your avatar then enable pose mode on the clothing armature and in pose mode move the bones around, resize them so it roughly matches your avatar and apply the pose. After this you can sculpt it and merge. Or merge first then sculp, depends what you wanna do and if you wanna use modifiers on it.

Honestly the Index is better overall, but it's not $600 better.
- Real world usability is mostly the same with the exception of tracking: Index uses base station tracking, whereas Rift S uses inside out. There's advantages and disadvantages to both.
- They're both about the same for jumping in quickly but you may have more hoops to jump through for Rift S since you'll need to open Oculus then SteamVR.
- Everyone says the Index is one of the most comfortable headsets but a few, myself included, don't like it that much - I preferred my Rift S more.
- The Index knuckles sacrificed a lot for meme finger curl tracking, so ergonomically are not as good as the Touch 2's, let alone the Touch 1's on the CV1. The knuckles also need to be RMAd regularly because of the thumbstick drift issues.

As I said the Index isn't too comfortable for me and I can't get the max FOV out of it because of the shape of my eye sockets. That said, it reliably starts when I want to: I had major software issues with my Rift S to do with various crashing and having to restart my PC to get into VR. I feel like I'm a minority with that though.
Both are good headsets, I'd lean towards saying the Rift S is better as a first VR headset.

Even with the perfect setup mine doesn't work flawlessly; I bought hardware recommended for a Rift S, I use the non beta software version and always leave the thing plugged in. Still maybe 1 in every 20 times I go to put it on it has the orange light, forcing me to restart the oculus service or the whole PC.

Yeah, it's free, it plays extremely well, feels much more polished than it has any right to be.
Crossplay with Quest, there's music, maps are simple but good looking, weapons have nice models and work well, focus on movement (sliding rails), akimbos (every weapon is one handed, you start with two handguns), there's deathmatch, payload, there are servers up, there are ranks, I'm surprised no one is talking about it.
Might get repetitive in the long run, but it's an extremely interesting finding for me.

Yeah blender's order doesn't get exported with the fbx, you've got to get that order into the mesh data itself. Once they're in the order that is correctly rendered in blender, go into edit mode, select every vert, and search for "sort mesh elements" and choose "by material" then you've got to use that little extra box thing that comes up to make it by faces too. No idea where this is in 2.8x

Quest version is basically the same as PC, it actually seems to be made for Quest first because PC version lacks some options (which you get back in Steam API, like Controls). The game is very optimized, one of the few games I can leave on 144Hz and not worry about anything.
DM is as close to arena shooters as VR gets, Payload is similiar to TF2 one, requires teamwork.
