The adventure will be held in a custom map built to allow a DM to have a set of tools to improve immersion for the players and bystanders
What is AI dungeon? AI Dungeon is a single/multiplayer text adventure game which uses artificial intelligence to generate unlimited content. It also allows players to create and share their own custom adventure settings.

To those that will want to host we will hold another test session to give you a run down on how it all works and the general tips on how to use the AI to your advantage.
From the tests we have already done it has been a pleasure and a hoot to everyone involved. A bleeding edge tech assisted DnD campaign in VR.

As for the adventurers, for this event please prepare your DnD avatars. We'll be highly pressuring the hosts to only allow skills and actions that are logical to the avatar you have prepared.

Some maps have their camera clipping set very low so you can see the other's model even while really really close.
The 3D-dimensional sense of Virtual reality allows tricking the brain that an actual object (in this case a face) is hyper close that it should already be touching your face as well.

This creates a phantom sensation and you can actually "feel" via your brain interpretting the visual stimuli and "self-correcting" physical sensations that should be there by sending mild physical signals.

Is 4k x 4k fine for an atlas or should I shrink that down to 2k? Only using the one shader here (with normal map) so I don't need more than one material. I feel like for my character's clothes, going smaller on the normal map would lose the fine detailing.

Depends on the detail of the textures in your 4k atlas.
In general if you need 4 pieces of 2k atlas, then it's better to have just one 4k atlas instead.

They're small 256x256 separate images that you slot on specific materials that do need them and they just tile repeteadly.

That's pretty much the point I'm at. One for the jacket, one for pants, one for skin, one for hair. I could *probably* do 2k for the albedo and rely on the normal map to fill in if I'm able to mix'n'match resolutions (eg. 2k albedo, 4k normal).

This is what game developers and artists get to a lot. Specially mobile artists.
For VR though I think the separate tileable normal maps are better since you can go up on someone's mesh really really closely.

Substance painter allows that very good ease of making though. And if you're making a complex model is probably much better as you don't need to plan out exactly where what normal needs to go to.
