Nice. Leap Motion?
There's gotta be a collection of decent quality avatar unity files out there somewhere that's been ripped.
Anyone know where?
>>310347616
No idea, I just grabbed it from the last thread.
>>310347689
Support the creators, loser.
>>310347869
Don't tell him what to do
I need to coom
2 hours until EU vrc anime time
This week is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, all 5 episodes
Next week we'll wrap up Higurashi with Kira and Kaku and then we can finally start the new season the week afterwhich is apparently a sequel so I'm glad I decided to do this rewatch first
I'll say again, the new Higurashi is airing on Thursdays so I'm thinking of swapping the watching day to Thursday for the new season so we're not 6 days behind.
>>310347869
Commissioned one avatar a while back, have a 2nd one in the making right now.
While I do support creators and have paid close to $100 for each avatar commissioned?
I'd like to be able to edit and colour pre-existing avatars. Many are already public so whatever.
>>310348018
Don't tell him that he shouldn't tell me what to do.
Wait...oops.
No but really, where do people find these ripped unity files?
Most I've found was a .vrca file which I have no idea what to do with.
Why hasn't Valve released the Source 2 SDK yet?
Another one of those horror maps with photos at the end, I thought this one was spookier than the other 2 by the same guy
>>310348904
Probably the same reason as last time.
They'll package it and want to make it easily accessible.
They don't hide much and the easier it is for new people to jump into?
The more content we'll have down the road.
>>310348784
How is "I've paid other artists a lot of money before so it's ok for me to steal these, when I can also clearly afford them" a valid justification? Weird mental gymnastics.
>>310348713
But episodes are already airing, there is no point in switching days
>>310349136
Because I don't mind paying if they're good quality and tailored to my liking.
Public avatars are just that. Public.
Often without any sort of contact info to reach out to the creator.
Seen many an avatar that I'd like to colour and change and would suit Halloween and Autumn themes.
>>310348904
They'd said back before Alyx released that they didn't have any plans to release a full SDK but might eventually reconsider that at some point after the game was done and they were less busy.
Maybe they're already busy with something else, but I'm willing to bet they just don't think it's worth the effort.
Redpill me on these.
Doing some Assetto Corsa tonight at 8PM EDT. We'll be running some Mario Kart tracks again with the Gokart mod.
We're starting with a new Royal Raceway track we haven't run before, we'll switch to some of the others when we get bored.
Make sure you're running the custom shader patch from Content Manager. The first track up is going to break without it.
Server should be running the new config now, let me know if you run into any issues.

Not sure what you mean? Once we're caught up with the old and new series and keep it Wednesday then we'll be 6 days behind each episode which will make dodging spoilers hard.
Got the legs rigged, all 8 of them. This is gonna be alot of work for something that gonna be pure jank if it works, but damn, it's fun!
Do the tracker straps really help stabilize the trackers significantly, or can i get by with some kind of makeshift setup? I don't want it to be inaccurate but I'm also poor.
>>310347616
Yep. I actually got my hands on one of the rigel units. They're awesome but are only meant for devs so don't rush out and buy one unless you're gonna actually make somethin
>>310349979
They'll be forcing you into using a genshin impact account by 2022 to use it
>>310350638
Putting bolts through some old shoes and an old belt used to get recommended a lot.
>>310350638
They're worth it. It would be more of a pain to make your own stabilization method, desu
>>310351254
any additional gear that should be obtained for the index kit?
>>310352009

>>310350065

God bless for organizing this anyways.
>>310352402
Kiiiiinooooooooo
>>310352009
I recommend wall/ceiling mounts if you don't already have good places to put the base stations.
>>310351005
Hard pass then.
>>310352553
Yes.
>Quest 2 clearly not coming today either
fuck amazon
just paid for the index
I ordered it like 17 hours ago
I was lucky enough that today was payday otherwise I wouldn't have had enough
>>310356215
Enjoy, it's a pretty good piece of kit
>>310299084 (Cross-thread)
This avatar doesn't have any options in its expression menu, so there is no toggling the multitude of meshes.
Do you have a version with this working?
>>310356215
Gaben doesn't ship this to my country, much sad.
>>310357779
Same.
>>310357881
What do we buy instead if we can't get index for less than 2000$
What am I in for bros..
>>310358086
In the end I settled for a rift but it's definitely nowhere near the quality of the index, so you've probably only got a couple alternatives, going HTC or selling your soul to facebook.
>>310358292
https://youtu.be/t28mQYUszFc
>>310358376
I feel like HTC is going to slam something new up soon, so maybe sell my soul to facebook cheap and just save for whatever comes next
>>310358292
pene
>>310357779
>>310357881
where are you fellas from then
>>310358524
The rift is fine but a lot of the things I want to do with it (feet tracking/full body tracking) aren't really natively supported so I have to do a lot of hacking and patching stuff up, for everything else it works really well.
>>310359186

I could buy the Quest 2 this month or the HTC Vive Cosmos Elite VR package shit next month.
>>310359549
>HTC Vive Cosmos Elite VR package
don't do this to yourself, cosmos is a joke
>>310360401
Well, what options do i have really?
The HP reverb looks like it's a decent headset but it's got dogshit controllers with inside out tracking
Quest 2 seems like a disaster in disguise
Valve index would cost 2k USD to have drop-shipped from America
>>310359549
As much as I hate Facebook, I can't really recommend buying a Cosmos.
>>310360741
Reverb G2 or Quest 2 depending on which tradeoffs you're willing to make.
>>310360836
Can i do something like get a G2, and then try to import the valve knuckle controllers?
It would suck so hard to get a dead on arrival index without any guarantee sent all the way from a different country for 2k
>>310361157
can you border hop to sweden?
>>310361605
Would put me in quarantine for 14 days or so, i've read that this is possible but it carries the same warranty risks as dropshipping from US.
>>310361157
I dunno how much of a pain it is to import stuff like that, but you can definitely get the Index controllers to work.
Other than not having capsense, which is a pain for stuff like VRChat, I don't see any real issues with the G2 controllers though.
>>310350638
It's arguable that with the correct setup, the trackers will actually be more stable than with the straps. Mine certainly were before I switched.
However, the level of comfort with straps is another dimension you have to consider, and track straps are by far the most comfy. Rig something up to get you through like I did, but certainly save up and get some when you have a chance.
>>310361708
this is what happens when you don't bow to the union
>>310361880
It's horrendous, if i get caught trying to carry a 1k headset from sweden to norway i would have to pay 25% tax on it.
The G2 Reverb headset is supposedly an upgrade compared to index headset, so if i could just import a couple lighthouses from ebay or something that could potentially solve everything.
Thanks for the help lads
does anyone know what type of screw 1.0 lighthouses is?
Does anyone know if I can rig up an additional tracker to strap to my penis, and have my avatar's dong react to my own getting hard? Know it isn't possible with 2.0 avatars, but haven't learned 3.0 yet.
>>310362097
>if i get caught trying to carry a 1k headset from sweden to norway i would have to pay 25% tax on it.
idk bro, I think that if you unpack it and just keep it like that you can pass it as your own property with little risk of reselling and it shouldn't be a customs issue. It's what people do when they fly to USA to buy cheap tech
do you use protective films for your lenses?
Interested in what kind, I only found some on aliexpress and similar
im gonna do it
im gonna buy the quest 2 for vrchat
im gonna use virtual desktop and break free of the desktopper curse
see you all soon
Join the NA anime club tonight in vrchat, 9:30PM-11:00PM EDT (6:30pm-8:00pm PDT) for a very special session. Since Nadia and the rest of the previous anime ended, higurashi 2020 is apparently actually a sequel and not a remake, and we still can't decide on what to watch next, this time we'll be watching ALL OF THEM:
https://anichart.net/Fall-2020 episode 1
Yes, all 23 non-sequel first episodes airing this season. To make it fit in the time slot, we'll be watching 6 anime at the same time, in 4 sets. We're using a special map with individual TVs for each anime, and the audio is spatialized from each so you can sort of pick them out individually:
https://streamable.com/7oysqb
Look for a vrchat instance link to join shortly before we start. Once we winnow it down to what to actually watch, future episodes will be shown on Sundays and Wednesdays, same time, in a more traditional manner.

>>310363564
Why would you buy a zuccset? Just get a G2.
>>310364020
those controllers are pretty shit bro
maybe i should though, i hate facebook but it's the most affordable option
who's the eastern euro anon who asked about proxy addresses to order their quest 2? i really hope you're doing ok
>>310363705
>ALL OF THEM
>>310364285
Why are you guys so adamant about the controllers? They can't he THAT different.
>>310364461
Me, but it was a G2, and I needed a proxy to order PC parts from a German website. The G2 can ship with no issues. If you really care how I'm doing, I actually think about dying every day.

Most books would be too long to read in one standing. Once the voting is passed you read the book in your own time and I will give a heads up when we will meet up. Ususally around three to four weeks depending on the length. I want to keep most books fairly short as attention spans these days can be short.
>>310364685
I get that not having good way to trigger gestures in VRChat is annoying, but outside of that they seem fine to me.
There's no way they're as ergonomic as Touch controllers, but they seem like they'd be better than gen 1 WMR controllers were in most cases.
>>310367860
I remember a read aloud story session way back in 2018, in that sleepoVR map. It was comfy. IIRC it was "Color out of space" by Lovecraft.

How is being depressed in eastern europe real?
Can't you just walk outside and grab one of the thousands of 10/10 based and redpilled eastern european women just walking around and go live in a wheat field with her? Like wtf.
>>310368469
>>310368864
Yeah, that. Good times. I'd do it again, though I don't have a good voice for reading aloud personally.

ok im tired of running around public worlds looking for an avatar that works with fbt
how do i get started getting my own avatar?
do I just buy something from booth and edit it from there?
how do I know if whatever I buy supports fbt?
help
>>310371460
First, before you do anything, try and narrow down what you want. Are you looking for videogames? are you looking for catgirls? Robots? Robot catgirls? Halomen? Some sort of eldritch horror?
By default, most boothshit should work in fullbody. Nips are absolute fucking autismal wizards when it comes to a lot of things |except faces||. I'd recommend it if you already know of a booth model you're interested in and someone around here can get you the files for whatever you want relatively easy if you don't feel like paying.
>>310371460
I'd start with free stuff on vrcmods to get the hang of unity and uploading first. Most booth models will with fbt out of the box, but are usually pretty unoptimized in terms of meshes and shaders and dynamic bones.
>>310371093
>>310371296
Never posted my stuff on /g/. I literally just posted this earlier on a discord for VR.
As for bot use?
Don't even know how. I was one of the lucky ones on October 9th who spammed the shit out of the "Add to Cart" on BestBuy. Paid with Paypal and was stuck waiting for confirmation for 3 days.

setup was easy enough but the problem is she's having a lot of difficulty getting the strap on the quest 2 to actually adjust to her face properly so she can see, but FWIW i had a similar issue with the rift finding that 'sweet spot'.

Just head to the Void or Volt club and observe some people grooving. You don't have to be a professional dancer like some people I've seen in that one Full Body Heaven strip club place.

The hardest part is just overcoming yourself and getting into it.

Fools will easily be parted with their money? Do unto others as you would have done unto you? Personally, I don't like people spending money on me, and I refuse any offers, because I'm worried about the expectations attached to those "gifts"; but I don't think it's a black and white situation and falls far more on your own personal sense of morality and personal responsibility (how much responsibility they have vs how much you have).

not outright but you're not winning any good guy of the year awards, you acknowledged that they expected something out of the gift which means you knew why they bought it to you which kind of makes you a bad guy but then again buying someone over with gifts is outdated as fuck which everyone should know by now

Feeling desirable is nice. Careful not to get addicted. Because, it's fake. They don't desire you, just what you're pretending to (or allowing them to pretend you to) be. You can never be that thing for real, so either find a way to be desirable as yourself or maybe quit before you get hooked.
>>310383267
It's not physically possible for me to be a woman, I have XY chromosomes. I can only mildly resemble a woman with cosmetic changes, but that doesn't take away my manhood. Don't worry, I'm beyong groomers.

is there anything wrong with putting your base stations on hip level height and not on the ceiling/wall? at least until I get some tripods I guess
>>310388672
they won't work at hip level height

>>310388819
>>310388672

now i have them both on tripods but one is now shoulder high on top of a bench and the other is above head height on top of a cabinet and it works perfectly I can do whatever I want in fbt in the playspace and i never seem to lose tracking
the hip high works ok for just headset and controllers but you may occasionally lose tracking in some spots in your plays space and almost doesn't work at all for full body tracking with feet constantly losing tracking
>>310388672
They'll work fine at hip height in the interim. You'll just see more weird dead tracking spots than when they're up high.

Alright motherfuckers, it is that time of the week again, time for everything to slow down! That first week of October everyone was gearing up and making models, and now everything has slowed to a cruise, that is better for cooling off. Working on models too much can burn you out.
Phasmophobia is still an area of focus, not sure if the mass players for lobbies idea could even work out, but it will be pitched in game. Discussion on how to play the first semi-solid vr spook game during spook month instead of just playing vrc for another spooktober is great, if nothing comes up this Friday, it'll be shilled then, if there is interest for it at least.

>>310398787
yea I like their software on mine, fits in my index with a cheap chink adapter just fine
I just wish more stuff supported it
>>310400656
Working on it. Sadly most of the good stuff is all enterprise and b2b, so it will be a long time before you get any good software for it. A SteamVR driver exists but it's kind of shit because SteamVR's input system is not really good for actual hand tracking, and you'd want to make overlays that help communicate gesture state and show hands in the compositor. Maybe make it so the overlay can show virtual wearable buttons that let you fire 'actions'
>>310400841
yea I tried that way back in altspace and gave up on it shortly after (as well as razer hydras)
I imagine steamvr skeletal might lend itself more to actual hands, as that's what vrfree's driver uses
>>310398771
>>310400579
If you're going to talk about whoever the fuck that is, might as well drop the blog post. Give QRD
>>310400841
oh and to add to this since im dumb and didn't read all the way: the vrfree driver also uses an overlay to have touch buttons over the wrists for system button/menu buttons as well as a touchpad for emulating vive wands on top of the gesture recognition
>>310401162

Looking around, to me, was one of the most insane feelings. Just like, seeing the Combine spider-tank thing crawling around and just moving my head, or like ducking, and feeling like I was actually in the game was just great. I guess camera direction is usually attributed to the right-stick of a controller, so still being bound to using the left one as I did shit just felt weird.
Maybe it's just something I gotta get used to.
>>310402456
oh yeah until we get something like full-dive we kinda just have to settle for that if we want games with movement (or stuff like grabbing/arm-swinging)
that or we're stuck with room-scale experiences only or wave shooters :(
>>310402609
Grabbing felt totally sweet to me. That was also something I thought was insane. Movement is a necessary sacrifice for now, and I'm okay with it, as everything else is just so great.

>>310405869
if you want the best spend the money bro, if you don't then spend less, simple as that.
how long the index will last as the best is the real question, probably for a while
>>310405869
>and focus solely on the hardwareAny use of that hardware requires a facebook account, getting banned on which can lock down the oculus store so you can't use it at all. That should be enough reason because it's facebook and you're on 4chan right now. If zucc catches wind you're a racist nazi, you won't be getting a refund.
Otherwise refresh rate is higher (very important for vr) and there's outside in tracking which is just better. The 90hz refresh rate for quest 2 isn't even available at launch so who fucking knows if or when it'll happen. Safer option is the index. Customer support with valve is much better too.

Should also checkout payday 2. It's full vr now and is damn good high paced action.
>>310410998
Pavlov is probably the most populated multiplayer game, movement is fine once you get used to it. Rec room is still fun occasionally, squadrons, hyper dash, and of course various minigames in vrchat.
Definitely don't get stuff on Oculus if it's available on steam, so you're not locked into their ecosystem, and so zucc doesn't take away your games when your Facebook account gets banned.
>>310416404
Dont see the need for a dedicated pcvr when you can have both with the quest
>>310416554
higher quality campaign than boneworks, but only around half of the length
>>310416750
Because going with a Quest to enjoy its portability would give up out on FBT and finger tracking.
>>310416915
>would give up out on FBT and finger tracking
You can still do a hybrid setup FBT with quest though
Also the index finger tracking is a meme that is inferior to the oculus touch
>>310416915
You can do FBT with wireless or pcvr quest though
>>310405869
Index has much better microphone and speakers, has an actual IPD slider instead of fixed increments, better FOV with two separate screens, 144hz refresh rate. Index controllers are lighthouse tracked so they don't lose positioning behind your back. Full compatibility with trackers for vrchat fbt.
Back before the facebook account requirement, I was softly recommending the rift S or quest over the index despite having an index myself; the quest 2 hardware is impressive for sure, but it's just so encumbered now.
>>310417019
Yeah, but you would have to spend more than outright getting an index to set that up. That and the headset itself would be using a different playspace that you would need to calibrate the align with the SteamVR play space, leading to potential drift between your head and the rest of your setup. Meanwhile the Index HMD is inside out tracked.
How do you deal with a VRC friend/crush no longer responding to text messages?

I don't see the point in mobile vr regardless. I know I look like an idiot wearing it and I'm completely blind to the outside world while I'm using it. Why the fuck would I want to take it out of the privacy of my own home?
Then again I don't even like playing games on my phone while waiting for things.
>>310417328
Move on assuming it's over. If someone doesn't think you're worth their time the #1 power move is to acknowledge it, politely disagree and move on and find someone else because that thot isn't your whole world and you can do better anyway.

>>310427487
>>310427523
The headset itself is much more durable than the controllers (just use vive if the knuckles piss you off), on top of that, you can actually get replacements.that don't require hoping they don't decide your headset doesn't deserve support anymore

i-is the index really that fragile? I'm worried now
>>310428609
It's not really, zuck cucks are just salty.
>>310428609
I'm mostly memeing, but you do need to be aware that you will have to RMA parts of it sooner than you'd expect. Most people have controllers go within 6 months, headset/ cable after about a year or so. It's less due to the hardware being fragile and more that Valve can't manufacture good hardware.
>>310428609
the controller's sticks succumb to drift approximately two weeks after you acknowledge to anyone, even just yourself, that you've got "a good pair" and you don't have to worry about it
the cable connecting the headset to your PC is the second most common point of failure, but you'll notice it before it gives out completely and you can send an RMA to get a new one before it renders your headset unusable.
>>310428372
tfw can't even get the quest 2 because cuckbook hates germany

Have mine for half a year now and so far zero problems. I punched my wall with the index at least 5 times and it's still like in day 1.
>>310429723
So did I until my controllers started drifting anon, 4 or 5 RMA's now. Then the cable borked.
>>310428609
Had mine since launch day, zero issues besides the face pad getting a bit soft now. I don't know what the fuck people here do to theirs.
>>310429723
I've thrown my right controller across the room and had no problems with it, but the joystick on my left was the one to drift.
Mysteries of the universe
>>310429906
How many hours a week do you use it anon? What games?
>>310428609
I'm approaching a year with my index and i'm on my third cable, second left controller, and second headset (Though the headset issue was just a dead pixel)
take that as you will
>>310430215
If I had to estimate, it'd be in the ballpark of 20 hours a week on average, primarily weekends. Mostly play VRChat, but I've gone through a number of other games and finished them, like HL:A, and the only ones I still sometimes revisit are Fallout 4 VR, Superhot, Elite: Dangerous, and No Man's Sky. Had a race wheel and played Dirt Rally and PCars 2 quite a bit, but sold that recently.
>>310430481
Ok, none of those games uses the stick alot. Try 5-8 hours a week or more of VRFPS with smooth loco. That kills them hard.
Some Index users don't even play vrfps because it will destroy the sticks.
>>310428609
Did my first RMA 2 days ago after buying it at launch.
I'd like to believe that it's the user smashing the controller on every surface possible, but I could also have been lucky.
>Getting filtered by the Squadrons Story mode on Hard the moment enemy ships are introduced

I'm calling bullshit because I've used my sticks plenty. I've got a pair of EV3s with perfect sticks still as well, long before the Index even came out.
>>310428609
I had it since release as well and replaced the left controller twice, right controller once, and cable once. My Rift was actually in much worse condition after one year; I'd replaced the cable the same, but I think something was wrong with the plastic because the entire thing, controllers included, had cracks developing everywhere and chunks falling off.
>>310431052
I should clarify that I don't mean your sticks failing are bullshit, but that the cause is specifically VRFPS. Just about every game I play uses smooth locomotion.

How does Valve have such a big problem with product durability? Wouldn't their people have discovered these problems with how much they have to use the gear for their jobs?
The Steam Controller is a pretty rock solid piece of hardware. Mine's fallen on the floor and hit the edge of the desk multiple times and there's not even a scratch on it. I'm not sure what's changed between now and then but I think it'd be in Valve's best interest to get it sorted out. Even if their RMA process is really good, I think most people would be much happier getting a product that's built to last and never have to RMA it.
If I'm being optimistic, maybe this was a quality control issue during the Index's first year on the market, and they've gotten better at manufacturing it since then. I would certainly hope so. The broken cables I can kind of understand being avoidable since there's stuff like the Turn Signal app and ceiling pulleys that can help prevent damage. I would hope that after a year on the market though, they are not still sending out headsets and controllers that can only survive a few months of regular use.
>>310431492
Unless they have 90s Nintendo level build quality, it's going to keep happening.
>pay $1000 for a product
>it breaks in under 6 months
>>310431787
Something happened to analog sticks, Nintendo is facing the same problem despite their history of "Nintendium"
As for the rest of it, they clearly didn't give it the Valve time it needed to be ready for shipment
>>310431787

>>310432098
>PS5 and Sony
Who cares even if they were though? Maybe more competition means better prices for the good products, but only an idiot would buy a PS5 or a Sony headset.
>>310431787
Got a third Index cable in its way and my cable doesn't get twisted since I have good spacial awareness, the break point is where it connects to the headset and droops to the floor at a sharp angle. Pully systems shouldn't be expected to be bought to avoid this issue, and I don't expect them to help either since all you're doing is changing the direction of the sharp angle to be pointing up instead of down.
>>310432260
>equivalent of designer clothes...
More like emperors new clothes kek
>>310432390
If you set up your pullies correctly there will be no sharp angle.

>>310432260

Things I like about the Quest 2 over my WMR Gen 1
>Controllers are smaller and feel better to use
>The tracking overall is less janky
>It remembers your boundary really well and let's you set it and the floor really easily but you can also play in another room seated just fine.
>Most people complain about the gap at the nose but thats actually pretty important since MR headsets are right up against your nose and it can make breathing a little hard.
>The controllers also dont constantly complain about low battery
>Can be used wirelessly with your PC with some fiddling
>The resolution and clarity is pretty much on par
What I dont like so much
>Facebook requirement (but I dont use my Facebook account at all so I set everything to only me and delinked it from my occulus account)
>Headstrap isn't hugely comfortable and its a bit awkward getting my glasses and my face in at times despite the spacer
>Games are quite expensive on the store
>Playing via 5ghz WiFi can lag a bit at random even if you're right next to your router
>Oculus Quest 2
>$300, that sounds awesome
>+$80 for the Oculus Link cable
>+$50 for a headstrap that isn't garbage
now we're up to $430, but wait there's more
>+$80 if you want the battery pack add-on
>+$100 if you want more than 64GB of storage
Now we're up to $680. I get that those last two things aren't really necessary unless you plan on using the thing away from home and you want to fill it up with movies and TV shows. However, there's also the cross-buy issue. Only some Oculus Store games offer cross-buy, and that means to actually use the thing as a portable VR device you are going to spend a lot more money.
I dunno, I am being super flip-floppy about what headset I want to get. For all the issues people seem to have with the Valve Index I have not heard a single person say they are going to switch from that to an Oculus Quest 2 as their daily driver, and the quest 2 seems a lot less cheap when the hidden costs get factored in-- not to mention that the headphone options for it all kind of suck in one way or another.
>>310433082
Yeah but £15 for virtual desktop to use with your existing VR library means you dont really need anything more than 64gb and a couple games on the device that would really benefit being on the actual headset itself though.
I will admit I bought the official case and thats way overpriced. Like £50 for a mediocre case that looks like big grey jellybean. Yeesh. But I need one for when I got to stash it.
>>310433082

You can probably do pretty well with a 20$ cable, or if you have good wifi and do decide on the battery pack you could also go with virtual desktop for the same price.
Frankly, I wouldn't compare the quest 2 to the index, I'd compare it to the g2.
The two are closer to the same price point if you invest in accessories and lit the quest 2 out, and while the index has its issues and it's screen won't exactly be the best anymore it's arguably the most balanced pcvr headset even once the g2 releases.

Let's not depressed, talk about happy things.
Today I'm gonna finish Blender work on my Spider, and import it into Unity.
There is also Pavlov later today for those who play that.
What are working on or playing Anon?

Yes. Imagine telling this general of all places to breed.

Today I'm getting my new injectors and fitting them on my car. I can't be happy until everything works and my cold start issues are solved.
>>310435315
Here's the thing we got right now
Index:
>Best tracking
>Best controllers
>Headset is ok. But should be way better than a Vive but it isn't
>Games aren't fully utilising these controllers yet, in a few years down the line they will though and the controllers will probably become the new standard. Not exactly the same between all three parties but cross-compatible
>Expensive
>Build quality is not great
Reverb G2:
>has the best resolution going
>still hampered by the somewhat haphazard (but improving) mixed reality support in games
>Decent price
>Decent tracking
>Easy to use just plug and play
>Will struggle to actually buy one for a few months due to everyone wanting the high res screen
>Build quality for HP headsets also kind of ropey
I personally see the Quest 2 as a companion device for it's price point. And it's actually pretty solid build quality-wise. If it wasnt for the Facebook crap and it's tarnished reputation, this would be THE hottest shit right now.
>>310436047
FBT + wireless Quest sounds cool. Imagine the things you can do when not being bothered by a cable.
>>310436115
Nice, my own car is failing, motor has issues idling when hot/warm. Dunno wtf is wrong. I'm just gonna call someone to pick it and me up once it dies and listen to Smash Mouth - All Star.
>>310436378
>Headset is ok. But should be way better than a Vive but it isn't
Vive sucks dick, what the actual fuck did you mean by this?
>>310436603
It could be a million things ranging from spark plugs, coil packs, injectors, MAF issues, boost leaks, fuel pressure issues, etc.
>>310436115
>>310436603
Car problem bros... I bought one a few weeks ago and had intermittent problems with the clutch and hydraulic fluid loss, but could not find where it was leaking so the garage thought I was delusional. It finally overflowed from the gearbox today so that's going to be expensive to open up and repair.
Question for wireless Quest users with FBT:
Do lighthouses improve the tracking of the touch controllers or does only the headset track them and you will still lose tracking behind your head, etc?
>>310437058
No. The lighthouses will mean the headset is less likely to lose tracking in the dark, however the controllers are still being tracked by the headset and will not have an improvement in tracking

A lot of people will be upgrading from a rift/vive to an Index right?
Vive sucked bad as is, but compared to even gen 1 mixed reality a lot of people expected the index to be the tip top but it falls short bigtime. Especially for its costs.
It should be a huge leap for gen 1 vr. But it falls short vs its competitors.
I see people saying something bad about every VR headset, is there just no perfect one? lol
>>310440872
I think I still consider Index to be a part of gen 1, just the top end of it

Index + a pair of backup controllers, then scam Valve out of an backup headset cable within like 4 weeks of owning the headset to minimize downtime without VR, and have a decent experience. You also get box fresh controllers every 2-4 Months during the warranty period.

Yes, the transparent plastic of gameboys. Now that was nice. And such thick plastic it was.
Now everything is flimsy shit.
Just upgraded from a 980 (Not even Ti) to a 3090 FE.
SteamVR prompted me to jump the refresh rate from 80 to 90.
Tried starting again and it prompted me to jump from 90 to 120.
Upped resolution 150%
It was like when I first played VR.
The excited feeling of magic and wonder I felt of things being experienced all over again.
I can go into any worlds without fear of the game stalling.
Turn a high quality mirror on and experience no hiccup.
I don't have to hide peoples avatars
>Save for the cancerous e-thots and wolf/sad boys with rap and dubstep intros and screen shaking effects
I feel as though I have ascended and after work today I can't wait to jump back in.

My last upgrade for the year is gonna be a 5900x or maybe a 5950x from Ryzen when the time comes.

I tried using this ivry Driver on steam.

Based, kind of fun seeing a bunch of fellow noobs though. How easy/hard is it to get into making worlds?
VR has given me schizophrenia. Literally just got prescribed anti-psychotic drugs. I have 3000+ hours in VR and done many drugs while in it. I can say now that I will not recommend taking lsd or dmt while in VR. The irl world just isn’t real anymore everything is just a better updated version of VRC. I sometimes see and hear things that can only happend in VRC and I get irl phantom feeling of my avatars tail irl. When I look in the mirror it’s just not me...I am not that ugly skin bag in the mirror that just a persona of the true me. The true me is in VRC and I was always her/me it just took sometime before I truely found myself. Anyways take it as a shitpost if you want but my life has definitely changed for the good or worse I don’t know it seems pretty good to exist but I’m just very confused about this reality we live in.

Haven’t met one interesting by person in vrc. It’s either talking to a brick wall or a woman. They have nothing of value to exchange except their body.
I once tried to have an actual intelligent conversation with one guy but as soon as it went into in-depth business it was all

Hi, sorry for sounding like a noob, but is there a way to export a model from VRChat? Because I have a Avatar that I like but the sample text in it's shirt annoys me
>>310464497
maybe it's just that nobody wants to talk to you
>>310464497
Welcome to pub worlds. If you hang out with vrg you have to dodge some tranny drama from time to time but you can say you want to genocide blacks and no-one will blink an eye
>>310464527
Usually that means it's a booth model of some sort, you can usually find it online and buy it. Otherwise ask here nicely and someone might have it and be willing to share.
>>310464678
Yeah, I found the original for 3000yen but I'm broke atm and I doubt that anybody has said model

I'll look around. Thanks for giving me the tip though
Does anyone have that VR screen resolution chart where it compared all the modern and old headsets, Quest 2 included?
New into the radius update. Moar guns, moar attachments, big boy optimisation.
Will a 3080 let you consistently not lag in VRChat?
>>310468314
No, people will always make unoptimised worlds and avatar regardless of your specs and the 3080 doesn't have unlimited power. Plus a lot of VRChats bad performance is because of CPU limitations.
>>310465270
i tried playing pavlov again today
i had fun for about three minutes, while blasting at the germans in the normandy thing
but then i realised that trying to aim with the float hand vr controllers still sucked ass

It's still funny how good lenses allow the XTAL to trash those all with a humble 1440p resolution with fraction of the performance cost, as it doesn't have to render shit at stupidly high resolutions.

Almost definitely buying a Quest 2 today.
Just one question: DRM? Can I still pirate? Assuming I'm using a link.
>>310472359
yes, vr software is no different from normal software
>>310472578
It's hard to separate the what ifs, the shitposting, and the actual information though. Is there some kind of self-bricking bullshit it'll do if it detects I did something naughty?
I don't really care about the facebook stuff. I'm just going to make a throw away account specifically for it and call it a day. I just care if it'll stop me from playing games.
>>310473176
no, there is definitely nothing like thatso far. considering where oculus is heading, i wonder about the future. there are no special VR DRMs, no extra headset functionality to detect pirated vidya, nothing.
Onions my boy has a gaming laptop with a 1050ti and he want's to play Vrchat, how fucked is he? what are his options? besides Quest.
>>310474128

valve please, I gave you your money yesterday
>>310474128
Lower the render resolution and hang out in optimized worlds with 1-5 people.
what's /vg/'s verdict on the quest 2? I got the quest 2 myself and have the reverb g2 on preorder, not sure if I should return the quest 2
>>310475034
It's shit, enjoy zuckerburg's dick all you want, have fun funding the development of the worst possible VR walled garden market.
>>310475453
When you say it's shit, i'm assuming you have tried it yourself? What's your opinion on it, other than "it's shit"?
>>310475825
you passed!
>>310475512
I thought I made myself quite clear. Facebook could release liquid sex for cheap, but it won't stop them from still being Facebook. Its quality doesn't matter. I hope people start being adults and stop funding industries they hate, one day, instead of being so blindly ignorant about their purchasing power.
Dead general
>>310476002
We are making Pavlove right now.
>>310475968
I think I miscommunicated what I meant, I was meaning to ask about the hardware/quality of the quest 2 itself, ignoring the ethical question. So I take it you haven't tried it then but are attacking the product purely because of facebook, understandable, but that's not answering my question
>>310455484
VRchat followed closely by koikatsu and cm3d2
>>310476125
In that case I think there's only one or two people in this general that already have one so far, but overall they seem to find it a progressive improvement over the previous quest, aside from some downgrades like audio and IPD adjustment. I'm still interested in the technological development of VR headsets enough to research this, but maybe one of those people could reply to your post in more detail.
I'm better off just ranting and shitposting at anyone who even considers funding that ecosystem at all though.
So can any Oculus 2 owners confirm that there is actually a 60ms + delay when using the official link cable?
>>310460563
I'm gonna find a vrgf
>>310476703
I have the quest 2 myself, but i'm debating whether to return it, for one, it suffers from godrays, the sweet spot is so small that I keep getting blurry vision, the increased resolution is pretty nice, but is again ruined by the absolutely horrenduous black levels. On top of this I've been watching VR porn with it and just kept thinking in the back of my head "this is probably being streamed to mark zuckerbergs office" and kinda got creeped out. there's like a 90% chance i will return the quest 2 because like you said, fuck that facebook censoring shit, I really feel like my freedom is being takena way just by having this product and it's stressing me out in day to day life
>>310476002
>>310476885
Nope. Werks on my machine.
There is nothing worse than a coomer who pretends to be 'ironic' about it.
>>310476885
Sub 20ms latency for link official cable. Just werks
>>310476962
That's noble of you. Haven't heard others complain about the sweet spot issue though, what's your IPD? "Horrendous" black levels might be something you might complain about with any headset that isn't OLED. The Valve Index has some relatively poor god rays and black levels as well, but people still tout it as overall the best, currently.
>>310477337
There actually are. There are coomers that hate "hard coomers". Absolute hypocrites
>>310477623
>>310477298
Fuck fuck fuck fuck, do i pull the trigger?
I want cheap and quick VR before i bang out on an index if i enjoy it, so this is tempting.
>>310477970
Even without link cable if you use Virtual desktop on Oculus Quest on a 5Ghz Router you can enjoy this kind of thing as well. Though your battery will limit you. I personally like the link since it also allows for continuous gameplay charging while using it since I play VR in huge chunks of time.
>>310477970
I bought a third party $30 cable for my quest 2 and it works just as well as official cable in my opinion.
>>310477769
My IPD is 68, so exactly the third option of the quest 2 IPD wheel. so imagine if it's a few mm off. I really am not sure why others aren't complaining about it.
The so called "pro" of the quest 2 (being wireless) is the only thing going for it, but it only lasts 2 hours. So using the quest 2 as a PCVR is a bit shortcoming since you would have to charge ur quest 2 while connecting to ur pc...
Also people are really underrating the inside out tracking, it works perfectly fine and i havent found anything bad with it, I can throw grenades and do everything fine.
>>310477970
>before i bang out on an index
That's a shitty investment to make lmao, if you go for a vr headset go for the HP reverb G2. I have the quest 2 and I don't recommend it, get the G2 you won't regret it if u have a VR viable PC
>>310478290
G2 is too high res for my GPU, since the index has shit resolution but better FOV it would run smoother.
>>310477337
coomers all deserve the rope

>>310478753
Tell me why i should spend 300$ more for some monkey controllers with no fingertracking if i have to downscale the resolution anyway?
>>310478982
future proofing, no zuckerberg uploading the inside of your house including camera and audio material to other companies, mura-free lens, less god-ray, bigger sweet spot, dont have to keep charging the headset every 2 hours, i mean a lot of reasons actually
>>310479248

>>310479248
>2 hours
Holy fuck are you joking? In the two years I've had vr I don't think I've ever played less than two hours for a single session.
>>310479770
Making inappropriate gestures in multiplayer games on the quest 2? Your facebook account gets banned, your device is now a 300 dollar paperweight. Censor yourself, go ahead.
>>310479894
I just came out of a 2 hour VR session using virtual desktop with the headset connected to a powerbank (not the meme strap), I had about 75% charge left on both. Yeah the base headset charge sucks but it is still a portable device designed for normies rather than enthusiasts.
>>310478290
>but it only lasts 2 hours.
>places a 20kmA powerbank and achieves 8 hrs of continuous wireless gameplay
heh, nothing personell kid
>>310480409

>>310480613

>>310479903
You don't see the bigger picture here, this is just a leap to AR. Where actual useful information could be gathered.
This is a toy, what sort of god damn marketing information would they get from watching you ERP with some fluffer in VRC?
This policy that people are touting about getting banned for obscene gestures is only in Facebooks own social apps, and who plays those?
You people who believe that facebook is live-stream recording from all these headsets without anyone noticing it are out of this world.
Has anyone here used both an index and a quest 2 + link? I'm curious if the screen is much better wrt resolution and FOV. It's theoretically better, but I feel like the link video compression would ruin the quality.
>>310480680
>t. works for facebook
>>310480884
Haven't used the index, but I have the quest 2, at this moment virtual desktop has better quality and latency than the link connection, it's weird but true, even gaming in 90hz with VD lmao. Link has to be updated I believe but they haven't done that (yet?)
>>310480680
>This policy that people are touting about getting banned for obscene gestures is only in Facebooks own social apps, and who plays those?
The new policy applies to all multiplayer VR games.
> You people who believe that facebook is live-stream recording from all these headsets without anyone noticing it are out of this world.
They're recording everything in closed-loop locally, and the device will send the last minute of recording to facebook if anyone reports you.
>>310480884
Are you kidding me? the quest 2's FOV is shit, it's worse than the quest 1's, it's like looking through toilet paper rolls
>>310481161
>Are you kidding me? the quest 2's FOV is shit, it's worse than the quest 1's, it's like looking through toilet paper rolls
Hmm, that's what I expected, since it's just one LCD instead of separate panels like the index.
IMO, even the index's fov is still looking through toilet paper rolls, but it's the best we've got for now (that's not chinkshit pimax).
>>310481120
Jesus christ you actually believe this?
>>310481720
You don't have to believe, it's right in the terms of service:
https://www.oculus.com/legal/horizon-terms-of-service/?locale=en_US
>4.3. Recording and Monitoring for Safety - When you use Horizon, your device will record (through a rolling buffer processed locally on-device) your and other users’ most recent audio and other interactions in Horizon. This audio data from this rolling buffer is not stored on our servers unless a report is submitted. However, other data, including data collected through platform services and integrations, about your experience may be stored on our servers. You may submit the data from your device, which we associate with contextual data, to us in order to report abuse, combat harmful conduct, and protect and support our community. Other users who are nearby may similarly submit these types of reports. If you do not submit a report, the audio recordings will be cleared when more time has elapsed than the rolling buffer. If you submit a report, the recordings are submitted with the report and retained for as long as necessary to investigate and fully resolve the report, after which time the recordings are deleted. In some cases, we may need to retain the recordings for longer, where it is necessary in order to comply with applicable law.

can you link to it? I'm curious on how it differs. GDPR is definitely better than what the US has. Oculus shut down sales in Germany entirely due to investigations as well, will be interesting to see if GDPR and the upcoming antitrust action in the US can force them to remove the facebook attachment. Also, $5k if somebody can jailbreak the headset
