I got a link cable for my quest 2, and when i initially connect it up, it says it's a usb 3 connection, but when i turn the headset on, it switches to a usb 2 connection. is there any way to force it to stay a usb 3 connection?

I'm plugging it into my computer's usb 3.2 type C port that supports video out and such, so it's about as good as it's gonna get. i usually use a graphic tablet on that for both power and video, so it should be good enough for a quest

This happens to me. The link and oculus software is basically buggy/fiddly as fuck. I find that if I make sure it's all plugged in and then open the oculus app it tends to work and register as usb 3... But if I change settings or unplug the cable and plug it back in I get weird issues where it insists I'm on a usb 2 connection.
Sometimes have to play around restarting the oculus app, or just unplugging everything and starting from scratch, but eventually it will work perfectly and maintain usb 3 connection for as long as I want to play PC VR.

I have other issues with Half Life: Alyx too. Performance is basically way under where it should be to where I'm getting frame drops on medium with a 2070 super. Apparently though that's a software issue and has something to do with oculus app, steam vr and/or Alyx itself. A lot of people saying it used to work flawlessly on high settings but some update or some Nvidia driver update borked it and suddenly everyone started having issues.

Every other game I try on steam VR over oculus link works flawlessly.

But that's the thing, I've no idea what I'm bringing to the table. There are a few exceptions for which I know why we hang out, but for others I've just no clue how to take care of the friendship. They're really nice people who helped me out on many occasions yet I can't think of a single thing I've done for them, it makes me sad. Even if they don't mind it, I still worry as the friendship might not last because of it. Or what if I want to make it stronger? Same issues apply.
