I don't even think we hit everything to do on the map, but I think the main bit is getting the ice cave key from the wind turbines and then using it to unlock the ice cave near the abandoned fishing vessel. The heart of the cave is the "end" of the map.

We also got a key in a drowned container in FPS bay, as well as a radio from the lighthouse. They key in the container unlocks another cave in an unmarked island near the wind turbines.

If any of you have a few hours you want to kill with friends, it's a pretty cozy map. Could also go there to just sail endlessly.

Hey EU bros, so in follow on to last thread it seems there's at least some interest in having an EU hours D-Day map event. To that end I'm looking to run the world again at 2pm PST, that should be 9PM UTC tomorrow, the 8th. Just in case anyone hasn't made an outfit there is a Lena pedestal I put together and I'm attaching the pastebin full of WW2 clothing to this post. You'll need to concert the mdl to SFM via crowbar and pull the appropriate textures via vtfedit, links to all relevant items in the pastebin.

In a low TTK game like Pavlov you can still burst down better players if you catch them by surprise. In high TTK games like vox the duration of engagements smoothes out the variance of surprise on top of the base skill of each player, and for that matter each team. Both styles of game can be fun but the low variance of the latter is definitely more demoralizing if all you can see is the KD ratio.

Not him but now that you mention that, I'm reminded of Stormlands, where you could apparently upgrade your body by ripping each limb off and popping a new one on. Such a shame they abandoned that game because Sony acquired them.

Also btw if you're curious of VR roguelikes in general, there's Cosmodread, Dreadhalls, Compound, Ancient Dungeon VR, Until You Fall, and In Death. From Other Suns might also be interesting although its multiplayer I'm pretty sure is dead and it doesn't support SteamVR anyway so pirate and use Revive if you're interested

I agree, even as someone who has mostly got the hang of the game. There's been a few points where I just felt like nothing was working and the few metrics I have to measure performance (damage and kills) fluctuated so wildly between rounds that I couldn't reliably measure my own performance. Even now I go 13 kills once round and then 1 kill the next without much change in playstyle.

I only had one breakthrough moment when playing and that was against bots, where I realized that holding your shots and focusing fire on weak or damaged spots yielded significantly easier kills than just firing at will. Everything else was a slow grind with many mechanics I'm still not sure of.

If by "5G" you mean 802.11ax on the 5Ghbz band, it's theoretically 9.6 Gbps throughput or so, which is slightly less than displayport's 10Gbps, and that's under ideal conditions. Considering that practical conditions like interference will reduce throughput, it's probably not enough headroom to do reliably without a lot of compression (like oculus link/virtual desktop).

Yeah the UI isn't elegant but it is functional. The main thing though is this one is updated for the network update and hitting the ball syncs as fast as the IK for everyone so it looks one to one with the players hitting the balls.

It's for some ears and tail that stuff that should be animated to rotate at all times. It works on the FX layer, but I need to make it a drag and drop prefab, and that means the animator needs to go on the prefab object.

Dual graphics cards usually sucks because in like 2009 everyone switched to Alternate frame rendering, AFR, where GPU 1 would work on a whole frame by itself, and GPU2 would work on the next frame. The problem should become obvious when you realise it still takes each GPU 1/30th of a second to render a frame, but you're receiving twice as many high latency frames so the stats say 60fps. Multicarding died pretty much a couple years after frame-time analysis tools came out and showed it was a load of shit. Since from the time the frame information was delivered to the GPU to the time it comes out is still 1/30th of a second you're still effectively getting 30fps of latency.

However, for VR it would actually work since you do actually need two frames at the same time. Instead of one GPU rendering one eye and then the other (or working on both at once) you could have each eye rendering on different GPUs. This would actually increase your framerate since this is effectively split-frame-rendering (SFR) where the per-frame load is split rather than alternating.

Anyway, tl;dr multicarding is dead, but it'd work for VR which is a shame, but VR SLI is also dead.

There's a few options they have; they could have a weighted combined score rather than a 'anything over x' rating they have at the moment. That'd be pretty easy.
I'd rather they focus on render times though. Would be WAY harder though. My suggestion is to have a standard asset included with the SDK, that has a medium level set of meshes, dynamic bones, etc etc, and then compare how that performs to the user's avatar. Differences in frametime - scene frametime could give a reasonably objective rating on how fucking terrible the avatar is.
It'd be pretty complex and not super reliable, and would also require avatar creators hit a 'generate avatar benchmark' button and then wait 5 minutes. but would be great to add as an optional stat to the performance ratings.
Something to tell TDAs, yes, your 40 mesh 500 bone collider avatar has a performance rating of 900% while that other very poor avatar is 50%.

This makes sense in a land without toggles. In a land of toggles, you can have multiple outfits and while only 30k polygons may be active at once, you have 100k of toggleable clothing. All making your avatar very poor... but only a fraction is rendering.
The result being that the very poor rating is completely useless at separating TDA monstrosities from people with toggles. It's hard to use mesh/material counts either since each outfit will likely have different mesh/material. But since you're only rendering 3-4 at once... filtering someone for having 20 available materials doesn't work.
Clearly; upload a new avatar per outfit, but then you're filling caches and VRAM and shit anyway since it doesn't get cleaned out efficiently. There's no way of winning. Except to concentrate on render frametimes.

Yeah, that's the most immediately obvious very simple solution they just haven't implemented for who knows why.
Making something to properly benchmark them would be difficult but changing to a scoring system over just whatever is the worst would be easy and a lot better. Plus, theres no reason to cap the score so TDAs could have a performance ranking of 3000 whereas someone just into very poor might be 205.

I do this all the time, I'll optimise to a point to aim for optimisation, not to aim for a rating. The rating system is flawed but something to aim for for the inexperienced but I don't care to get a higher rating, just care to optimise.
Decimating is a pretty destructive thing and can fuck up the model badly. The only way around it is learning to redo topology which still results in a lot of quality loss but is also hard to learn. We're not 3D modellers, we just want to have fun in a video game and personalise ourselves a bit.

I do not understand the simping for the arbitrary 70k limit. If you follow booth top developers over the last years they went from atleast attempting to be performant to not giving a single a fuck and not trying on any front.
Why bother wasting time and energy shaving off details to get to less than 70k tris making a medium avatar when someones gonna mog you with a booth avatar that isn't optimised at all because that booth creator gave up on 70k and just decided to put the time and effort into extra layers of clothing, extra texture detail, extra toggle features.
Tris could be set to an amount that still has a negligble impact on performance but is also a realistic target for booth creators to meet. Remember these aren't models made for fortnite that runs on the switch where the characters have cube slabs for fingers and big giant low poly cartoon military boots for feet and molded plastic legoman style hair.

Reminder to disable your dynamic bones with the mesh you are toggling off.

I feel like the main reason the 70k limit is in place is because of how much having shapekeys on a high poly skinned mesh affects performance. If they have no shapekeys on at all the performance is a lot better and so higher poly skinned meshes are more viable but they probably can't detect that in the performance ranking system.

This is a big part of the problem. It's so easy to slip into poor if you have any dynamic bones at all and the result is it discourages even bothering to try and optimize it. There is a huge difference between the upper and lower ends of "poor" and the upper end of "very poor" can be worse than a dozen barely very poor avatars. A scoring system would at least encourage people to do the basic things like merge meshes unlike now where people don't care unless it's their worst feature.

Yep. If you combine all your mesh into 1 like the performance stats suggest (VRC has advanced performance guides that actually do talk about shapekeys on large numbers of verts being bad) then your face shapekeys will be your whole mesh shapekeys, outfits, body, etc, when the shapekeys only wiggle your eyebrows it's eating shapekey rendering for the entire body mesh. Split into face and body/clothing and that helps. But VRC thinks it's worse. Then have the outfit on a different mesh so you can swap it with another outfit.... mesh counts go up.

Locally toggleable occlusion portals to be implemented in the map.
Just at the height of the bleachers audience area
SCENARIOS
(1) When you are at bleacher A
(Portal A is disabled, Portal B is enabled)
you only load the players on the field but don't see/load the audience at bleacher B
(2) When you are at bleacher B
(Portal B is disabled, Portal A is enabled)
you only load the players on the field but don't see/load the audience at bleacher A
(3) When you are in the track and field you have an option of enabling both portals making you not see majority of the audience BUT will have massively upgraded frames

A stock is a better idea for H3 where it's more casual of a shooting thing, and you could really have fun on the sniping maps.

Some league players do use stocks but most just use the virtual stock setting. You need the ability to quickly detach for fast reloads and grenade throws. Doing some GT3 racing in Assetto Corsa tomorrow night at 8PM EDT.
Since the 24 Hours of Nurburgring was last weekend, we'll be doing a 24 minute 60x race on the Nurburgring endurance track in GT3 cars.
We'll start out in practice mode, and move to qualifying/race mode when enough people join.
The Sol mod is recommended so you can actually see the day/night cycle, but you should still be able to join without it.
A download and guide for the latest version of the Sol mod and the DLC that's needed for a few of the cars are in the links if you need those.

A few threads ago I asked if Gear VR is worth it. Anon recommended against it, but I bought it anyway. Setup was pain (forced FB account), my cheap USB Ethernet NIC turned out to throttle below 10 Mbps after some time so I have to rely on connecting the phone via WiFi, phone can't be charged while in headset, screendoor is noticeable, OLED pixels turning on from full black is a bit visible.
But! It's super fun with Elite Dangerous. Latency even on WiFi is minimal, resolution is pretty okay (switched the Note9 to 1440p), FoV is alright in-game. I mean, man, it's cool as fuck to just fly and look around at other ships or docks.
Any other sitting games you could recommend, anons? I'm thinking about trying some racers with a borrowed steering wheel.
