Guess it isn't just me then, I'm working on adding triggers to turn off the udon chip stuff locally if the player isn't near them which is helping a lot, but unfortunately some of them can't be turned off without breaking something such as the coins and the slots, and after testing I have found that the slots are responsible for most of the lost frames just by themselves. After doing what I can I'm still not getting a full 144 fps when alone in the instance

Yea, you need to bind it, but it should stay bound once you bind it one time. Then again, it's assetto we're talking about, default launcher is a tremendous turd and iirc it resets your bindings on every registered change in input devices, so i can't promise even that. Do bindings, it's not much of work, you just set a small handful of things.

Also, try Content Manager. It installs shader patch for you (massive improvements in many, many ways, weather, night, day, optimizations), and most importantly it's a fully competent launcher that doesn't suck like hell. It's free, too.

First of all what are your system specs and what VR HMD are you using?

I'd recommend you go to simg instead you'd probably get a response quicker there.
I can't really comment for anything except the 8kx, vive pro 1, and OG vive since those are the only HMDs I own.
IL2 performs far better than DCS and MSFS, you need a decent CPU at least haswell tier and over and a good GPU.
In the past I was able to play IL2 in the OG vive 1 with a 1080Ti/3900xcpu just fine but the resolution of that HMD was not great for reading gauges and IFF unless you use ingame zoom.
For newer headsets you need a beefier setup than that and you will need at least vive pro level and above clarity wise to get a good experience in IL2.
If you have a 3090 or 3080 then you should definitely be fine for IL2, I can play it just fine on a pimax 8kx with some settings tweaks because 4k per eye is fucking insane.
Vive pro for IL2 would be simple as, I crank the SS to around 150% and just max almost everything except ridiculous settings that don't offer noticeable visual benefit.

Most simmers seem to favor the HP reverb G2, which doesn't need as much umph to drive as the 8kx yet has slightly higher ppd (clarity) than the 8kx for a fraction of the price. sweetspot and FoV is shit on the reverb G2 though and if you want roomscale as well any steamVR tracking HMD is better at that.
All I can tell you is that smooth framerates in IL2 are certainly achievable with hardware currently available on the market and is far easier to achieve than DCS.
Hell I am able to play DCS smoothly as well on a vive pro with asynchronous re-projection (45fps rendered, doubled to 90Hz by placing the previous frame rotated based on head tracking data in between) but only barely (i think i hit around 50fps on average) and that is with a 3090 and 5900x cpu.

If you already own the RiftS and 6900Xt you can try DCS for free, just fly around in one of the trial aircraft training missions or look at the fps on the ground.
I think RiftS would be adequate for IL2, try it with your current setup before upgrading.

Run it on high preset, check some guides online on what settings to knock down.
Off the top of my head don't go hard on in game AA at most MSAAx2, if you are taking a huge hit use FXAA instead and raise SteamVR supersampling a bit if you want a bit more clarity for text.
Don't go full ham on the supersampling as the game has shimmer for spotting distant targets that gets reduced if you supersample since supersampling is applied after the shimmer effect not before it.

There are no "servers" here, not in your understanding of it. There are worlds to choose from, and you can make an instance of the world, then invite people (or make it public so anyone can join). So, we're just constantly switching between various instance, joinig on friends, or friends of friends, that's how everyone goes together.
