Seems like Index 2 is gonna have a build in PC, with SteamDeck specs.

Going to mess around in Assetto Corsa for a bit after American Truck Simulator is over, should be starting around 10PM EDT.
Server is running LA Canyons at night with the cars in pic related.
Only required mod is the track, it's in the Mega if you need it. The DLC is in a separate link if you're missing any of that.
The Sol mod is recommended so you can actually drive at night, but you should be able to join without it.

but this is a bit contradictory no matter how you slice it: you end up with either underspecced VR headset (camera-based tracking, weak computer specs provoke bad resolution and such), or separate computer that won't take advantage of headset capabilities because it's too weak.

It's not necessarily going to be an Index 2, but they're definitely looking into standalone stuff. Makes sense from some of the patents they'd filed.

I'd be willing to bet it'll probably run most of it. It'd be in Valve's best interest for it to be able to.
The real benefit for us though is that it'll encourage more PCVR development in the long run since it's just a standalone PCVR headset. Devs targeting lower spec devices isn't ideal, but it's better than watching them all run off to make Quest games instead.

The wireless issues shouldn't be a problem for racing stuff since there's no reason to use wireless when you're sitting right beside your computer.
Worth mentioning that something like a Reverb G2 would be a better option for racing stuff, especially if they drop the price back down to $450 again. Kinda hard to recommend at full price unless you know you're going to use it a lot though.

The quests' main advantage of being wireless doesn't really apply to you, but the price (subsidized by your personal data) is of course impossible to beat. depending on how much of a negative zucc botnet is to you, paying $600 more for the index or $200 more for a reverb g2 could still be worth it. index has the advantage of 144hz refresh, great audio, and the least amount of botnet (just steam). g2 has better resolution. index is very expensive for its now mediocre screen (besides the refresh rate), requires lighthouse setup, and you won't care about the controllers for racing really. g2 has shitty controllers.

Thanks! The price difference from the quest 2 to others is ridiculous where I live (south america), it's the first reasonably accessible PC VR experience and feels like an all-around better choice. Having the option of playing wireless non-racing games sometimes is also a plus.

As for the zucc botnet I have to do some research on but I don't really see how bad it would be, I don't open up facebook for years and whenever I'm not playing I'll just unplug the thing. I don't really care if they know what I'm playing or not as long as they don't start sharing shit on my facebook page or forbid me from playing certain titles.

If you've got a legit Facebook account you don't mind linking to it, you shouldn't have to worry about getting your account locked, which is the only issue outside of them getting your data.

So, in my Gesture Layer, I have it set so it plays an animation if one of my parameters is set to 1 - that works. I'm then trying to alter one of my gestures - the basic fist animation, so that it only fires when the basic gestureright parameter equals one, but also only when the custom parameter is set to 0 - so that it only works when my custom animation isn't running.

However, ingame, it'll still squeeze the hand shut while I have the animation on.

Practically speaking, facebook is a large enough company that they can't do anything overtly evil; I just avoid facebook more on principle. I would recommend trying to set up a burner account on FB still (easier to do now that they're not in muh election fake news lockdown mode), and of course never buy games on the oculus store. There really isn't anything exclusive worth getting on there anyway, or you can just pirate shit.

H3VR has top-tier gunplay and interaction autism. the actual gameplay loop (take and hold) is meh to me, but people still seem to like it enough as an excuse to play with all the guns.

Pistol Whip barely counts as a shooter, but IMO it's very fun and in deadeye mode it's essentially target practice to funky music and environments while also squatting.

superhot VR is a good mechanic that works well in VR but it's pretty short and not really worth what they charge for it.

All the other lighting settings show and the emission is turned off so it's not pure white, but the texture is just not there.
