This general and 'community' is unfortunately dominated by VRChat. VRC is the ultimate escapism avaliable so it attracts those who want to escape their real world limitations and failures the most. It's little different from older forms of escapism like MMOs or second life, which also attracted the worst of 4chan too. Add in the nature of /vg/ as a containment for schitzo rants obsessive discord trannies and you have a good idea of why /vrg/ is the way it is.

If you play in any of the VR game lobbies like Vox, Phasmo, Pavlov or Assetto you get a somewhat different impression. No tranny voice changers, male avatars in games that doesn't have an anime aesthetic, the kind of shittalking you might expect from 4channers and considerably less open coomerism. The difference is that these people are a minority, the same names and voices each time, outnumbered and almost certainly outautismed by those who only come here or associate with /vrg/ for VRChat.

I want to like it, but it's probably the most frustrating game I've ever played.

The movement is incredibly sluggish. Mechs cannot walk anywhere without getting stuck on tiny obstacles which you can't see from the cockpit. If you're on a ledge or other minor obstacle, it can take your entire fuel tank you get the mech up it then you're stuck waiting for fuel to regenerate. When you do fly anywhere, you have to save most of your fuel to decelerate otherwise you'll fly across the entire map or break your legs on landing. The pace is horrendous and you get punished with constant waiting or get absolutely fucked by enemies if you make the slightest wrong move.

On the subject of weapons, it's the worst damage model I've ever seen. The theory is that you have to destroy the enemy armor plates, then shoot the gaps to do damage but It never seems to work. You can dump everything into one spot for a minute and the enemy doesn't seem to have been damaged at all, then turns around and oneshots you. Randomly spamming certain weapons works better than trying to do anything intentionally. A lot of players just ram each other, which is a somewhat reliable way to do damage, but sometimes you'll just bounce off without doing anything, or die yourself for no apparent reason.

I don't know if I'm too retarded to get it, if there's some kind of problem with my game, or if others are just deluded into seeing consistency in it.

Half right half wrong. Most of the time you are better off putting out DPS than waiting for the perfect shot but in a 1v1 duel shot placement wins fights. Shots not hitting exposed hull could mean extra heat for little return, shots hitting the cockpit or cooling vent are extremely heat efficient. Denying good shot placement by hiding your exposed hull or tanking extra damage by using your limbs is key. Remember that your HUD doesn't show missing armor, what looks like full health may be a completely exposed front hull that will die very quickly to a fresh rocket burst Catalyst.

I felt the same way about vox at first. It is very frustrating to spawn, bumble your way into a fight for 40 seconds, empty your heat into some mech then blast off for seemingly no reason. However, the game overall is actually paced pretty similar to a MOBA except without all the affordances of explicit HP bars, character levels, and god's eye view. The fact that vrg lobbies already have a bunch of really skilled players in them means that as a beginner you're essentially an underleveled character that's usually way out of position getting plinked until you're low health/heat enough to be bursted down. And when you go on the attack, the enemy already knows all the little micropositioning tricks to dodge your attacks.

My advice to a vox newbie is to stick with your team as much as possible, including when most of your team dies and you have the retreat until they respawn. If you're in a fat mech, generally let the enemy come to you (and your team) and save your fuel for a reaction to enemy movement. Spend time at midrange so you can watch fights and sink some cannon/railgun shots in, then when you sense the enemy is low on fuel (and probably high on heat) you can move in closer with a good movement advantage.

Also, one specific module I highly recommend on all but the catalyst and dredge but isn't default is the air brake. It'll make fast movement way less punishing, and is honestly still good even at higher levels for subverting movement expectations.

How do I transfer shapekeys (in blender) from one mesh to the other? the meshes are identical, just some changes were made and I need to transfer over the other shapekeys.

The best I found via google was to do this process:

- Add at least a “Basis” blend shape to your target mesh.
-Select the source mesh, and select the appropriate Shape Key on this mesh.
- Pin that shape.
- Select the target mesh.
- Shift-select the source mesh.
- Press TAB to enter edit mode on the source mesh (yes, with both objects select).
- From the Mesh menu on the header, select Scripts, then “Deformed Mesh to RVK”. Answer “Yes” at the prompts.

I think that the game is much better with larger lobbies. With full sized teams real frontlines form and heavy mechs really come into their own. Meanwhile light mechs can't just risk charging in as per usual without getting shredded. But most lobbies never reach 16 players.

agreed, 4+ mech teams are ideal. anything less does degenerate into purely hoppers/goldrushes, and it's not the same. The vrg lobbies usually get 8-10 people though, which is a good time.

One real limitation of the game is that all the non-deathmatch gamemodes are bad (or limited to 4 players). If they had a proper attack/defend or area control mode, I think the balance between big and small mechs would be better as well, especially when you're playing from behind.

I don't think the new controllers will work as FBT pucks very well. It's probably sending data to the headset through a specialized wireless protocol same as current Quest headsets. So basically you'd need to buy an entire new headset to do that kind of FBT, similar to how someone made Quest 2 into a hip tracker and the controllers on the feet for foot trackers.

Pretty much. Although I wouldn't phrase it as "hanging out". They were meant to be used actively for a very short amount of time as voting booths. The idea was the main part of the competition would only last a dozen minutes or so. Anyone that wanted to judge would find an open booth and the the contestants would try to visit as many judges as possible before the time was up and results were announced. Candy slappers were just flair and an alternative for voting through the list. They were literal last minute additions though and consequently pretty scuffy.

Not sure what the best sequel to this will be. Lots of potential with the core tech being developed. I think a more refined and tested version would work well. Yep. That was the issue. If you start the game for the first time, and exit out during the required tutorial, and then attempt to load the save, you will have no map. You then have to go back, manually choose the tutorial, complete it, and then all subsequent new games will have the map.
At least, that's what fixed it for me. You might be able to just make another new game without having to do the tutorial, but I didn't test that.
