did all the steps fine until I had to connect to PC, it showed a dialog with options and I chose "open device to view files" and now the Quest only shows up as a flash drive.
How do I make sidequest detect it?

that was it, thank you. I thought it stayed on after the first time
My big issue with the Quest 2 still is the tracking, can't even complete the initial guardian setup without the thing going to black after 3 seconds, had to disable it which makes it unable to play anything

Anyone who's not a seated sim player or on wireless needs a pulley system. VR Wire II or Kiwi Pulleys will be a life changer when set up right.

Beyond that it's budget and interests, really. Gunstocks are nice for FPS, HOTAS if you're a flyer. Wheels mandatory for the sim racer.
Anonymous No.378019972 Replies: >>378020310 >>378020519 >>378020641 >>378028130
>>378019346
I disagree with this entire post. I've turned in real life for 4 years without a pulley system, I owned a gun stock and it was far more hassle than it was worth, and I own both a wheel and joystick but use neither in VR because they're so awkward to use while blinded by the headset. The last problem could be solved if tracked VR peripheral versions of those were made, but for now trying to find a specific button on the wheel while its rotated is horrible.
Anonymous No.378020310
>>378019972
I dunno about steering wheels, but it's super easy to find buttons on my hotas, they're designed to be used without looking at them.
Anonymous No.378020519
>>378019972
I've never had a problem with buttons on the HOTAS and I've played a handful of games with it, not DCS though. Same with the wheel, work on that muscle memory, it takes some time to get used to. Gunstock also took a while for me to adjust it and get properly dialed in, but once it was done it helped me way more than not having it for most games. But I also don't have one of those cheap shit ones so dropping and picking it back up is easy.

Do you look at your keyboard to type? How can you not remember where the buttons on a steering wheel are? Even if you have the wheel rotated you should know that it's rotated and on top of that you can feel the buttons anyway.
Anonymous No.378022023
>>378020641
Not him but it would be easy as shit to overcome if you spend like 3 or 4 days using it for a few hours each day. I used a wheel in racing games for a while and I never looked where the buttons were

I can type the letter U if I am typing, but if I need to find it in an FPS, then I'm probably going to press something next to it because my hands are in a different position. I guess it's the same form of mental retardation that locks me at a double digit typing speed despite using computers for over 25 years and even actively attempting to type faster.
Anonymous No.378022841

I think if you make a keyboard that just has the braille lettering raised on all your keys it would be neat.

Probably wouldn't fuckin help at all with the problem you just described but the idea popped into my head and I wanted to share it.

Race 21.

18:00 UTC, 20:00 CET, Monday 29th of March!

LOTUS VS FERRARI
1 hour practice, 15 minute qualifiers, 9 lap race.
This time we use grandpa formulas to race in Brands Hatch. Wide tires, wide trajectories, fast speeds.

After that we are going to Free Roam version of Black Cat County for some KINO!

Download mods here:
https://mega.nz/folder/TzISFRaa#PBSe7SlFsosTx1OPqdfIZg

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html and a mod installer (just drag and drop zip files from mega).

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738.
You don't have to download the client, you can use webclient at https://voice.vrg.party/?address=voice.vrg.party/demo&port=443
Push to talk works globally only using desktop client, desktop client is more configurable, highly recomend to get it, no need for any accounts, just join server and talk

Do you want to be an extra in the VRG movie? In about two weeks (Friday the 8th 9pm PST) we are going to be filming a scene in Magma Cabana, without giving too much away, costumed background characters will be filmed taking in fun activities of the casino. Activities that include gambling, swimming, lounging in the lobby, watching performances in the theater, drinking at the bar, and so on.

Participants will be required to be in provided avatars only.
(Models and texture can be provided to those wishing to make minor alterations to mesh. model alterations still need to be approved before filming. DM Mentle for details.)

I bought a DFGT years ago and barely used it because I only had regular chairs to sit in and would get cramps in my back and legs trying to play with the wheel attached to my desk or a table

Also it is more immersive and allows adding tutorials for new features without bloating the start of the game.

Rest is no longer a parameter. Players can still sleep but there is no more occasional annoyance with closing eyes and yawning. We found that mechanic overly lacking in depth and meaning so it is removed until we can improve upon the system.
New sounds for all pistols as well as the M4 and IZh-27. More new sounds coming in upcoming patches.
Multiple simultaneous missions. Players can now take on up to 5 missions at the same time.
New Custom Difficulty Settings. Over 15 parameters are exposed to change like - amount of enemies, time till tide, item durability, enemy damage, disable tracers for enemies etc. It can be tweaked both ways to make the gameplay experience easier or harder.
Improved graphics. New tree models, terrain retexture, grass, and overall more detail, dynamic shadows on Effects - Medium to High.
New voice lines for Mimics.

CHANGES AND BALANCE
Improved CPU performance.
Index Grip is changed to be purely controlled by Grab event from SteamVR Settings without any hardcode inside the game, so it can be tweaked to your heart's desire. If you're having issues please reset your bindings to the Default ones.
Improved usability for the delivery box, now it opens upwards and has better signaling.
Refactored cigarettes. Now only one can be in mouth, but it is properly saved and can be lit while in mouth.
New upgrades to increase tube mag shotgun capacity.
Web anomaly has sound feedback for damage application.
IIz-81,SKS, short mag, and 7-62x39 have been moved to Access lvl 2 and reduced in price.
Ammo costs more overall. More steep increase in prices for high tier stuff. So you can save money in low tier locations with low tier ammo.
Increase in Armor Penetration for: 7-62x51 FMJ, 7-62x39 AP, 7-62x54R AP, 7-62x54R FMJ, 9x39 AP
Reduced effective range for 12x70 Slug.
Increased ammo per box to 30 for 5-45x39, 5-56х45, and 7-62x39.
More realistic weight differentiation for different ammo.
Player now starts with Access Lvl 0. Some equipment moved accordingly.
Grenades reduced in cost.
Secondary missions award less. This is to account for having 5 missions simultaneously.
More drastic growth for secondary mission rewards depending on location. Higher tier locations award considerably more.
Artifact weight reduced.
Fragment Crit zone moved from the head to chest area.

BUG FIXES
Fixed pistol mags falling through if ejected straight to the backpack.
Fixed shadow artifacts when flashlight shadow combines with light sources in the environment.
Fixed phantom items in backpacks that are not visible but take up weight.
Fixed hard to remove attachments from weapons.

Good, it wasn't challenging anyway with the amount of rest spots in the new maps

This sounds great but we'll see how it turns out in practice. I wouldn't want to turn up the spawns to make Pervomay Route a challenge, only to end up fighting an entire army in Kolkhoz Zarya. Lategame enemies already feel spongy without needing to kill 30 of them just to loot some trash.

Alright motherfuckers it is that time of the week again. Last week as a fun week of grinding against a new exporter that while functional, is meant to act as a one stop tool without the ability to modify things in blender. It'll be more functional with some additional documentation. Aside from that we have Easter coming up, if you need help with a bunnygirl outfit drop by.

Pulsar has been going great, the VR controls could use some refinement however. Might take a look at the modding community and see if it doesn't horribly break the game like it did last year. Highly encourage people to play it at some point it's just star trek FTL. https://store.steampowered.com/app/252870/PULSAR_Lost_Colony/

Dm the shop man if you would like to see others on a new path, know it is hard to change, but struggle to nudge nonetheless. Or if you just want to play some vr games together.

there is a demo on horizon vanguard .io, but its outdated but its worth a try if you uncertain to buy.

I love the game, gives me the feel of classic 90s arcade games like Time Crisis and House of the Dead, however it was really difficult and the final boss is impossible (I've done all stages but that boss)

Final Assault is a rts/moba hybrid, units fall down a lane and fight with some micro involved offlane, its not base building but it looks and plays great. Although multiplayer is broken, people spam rockets, l buy for single player bot matches (hard keeps you playing if you need a challenge)

Final Assault looks interesting but does it hold up?

For me it's Light Tracer. It's an extremely challenging puzzle-platformer with great variety. Not as polished as you'd like, which can lead to some deaths feeling unfair, but I admire the devs for consistently keeping it fresh. They recently made a flat screen-only sequel that doesn't seem nearly as interesting, the VR design added so much to the original

>Final Assault
Really fun game until you figure out how to play it seriously and realise how terribly broken some units are and how lacking the game is in general. It desperately needs to have counter-xyz for each layer on each commander but doesn't. There should be fighters planes and bombers on each commander so you actually have some way to deal with the one commander with the anti tank gun and actually make the air layer worth investing money into. As it stands every commander has an anti-air ground unit and a fighter plane but fighter planes do jack shit to anything but basic infantry so there's almost no point in using them at all. If there was an anti-tank or even just anti-structure bomber then it would be a major strategic advantage to control the air layer but there isn't. There's one commander with a bomber I believe but they're the dedicated air commander which means they have a huge hole in their ground ability where everyone else is great. It becomes a tug of war battle on the ground very quickly with no alternate ways to break the stalemates. I still enjoyed it but I'd prefer it if they had two hyper commanders with all the available units for each of the two factions.

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.

HOTFIX UPDATE 2.2

If you have mods installed it might be best to uninstall them, since they're probably incompatible with the current version of the game. This can cause issues in-game. We suggest waiting until your mods get updated by their creators.

BUG FIXES
Fixed getting stuck in Hub because gates didn't open.
Fixed getting stuck inside the player container home.
Fixed old saves having a completed tutorial having to do new tutorial steps.

KNOWN ISSUES
Sometimes gameplay tips are not visible to the player or they spawn far from player.
Grass anomaly deals no damage.
Some trucks are glowing like crazy. Don't look at them too long, keep your eyes safe! (Even if they're beautiful).
Katya's body in the tutorial part ignores volume settings.
Reflector anomaly doesn't reflect thrown items back (DON'T TRY IT!).
Cassettes freeze in place after putting them in the cassette player on the map.
Thank you for reporting these bugs and more, it greatly helps us catch and fix them!

it uses hmd as a tracked camera. Sense of flight and scale is amazing.
You can use VR controllers as laser pointer "mouse", but it's jank, you need to use a hotas anyway, and switching from hotas to VR controller and back is annoying, it's actually easier to just use mouse.

Using your head to look around is extremely liberating, and I pity those souls who are flying Apache with trackir or with dpad head looking.

Game is optimised worse than vrchat so prepare for low fps.

It's a niche, you'll love it or hate it, or both.

You can try all modules for free. 2 weeks per each module if you use their launcher:
https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/personal/licensing/trial/

After 6 months free trial resets. So you can kinda play all the cool planes for free if you rotate the plane you fly every 14 days.

Just use the thread. If you need a seperate voice chat for a multiplayer game and don't want to set anything up yourself you can use the /vrg/ steam group chat; People already use it for a handful of games, you don't need to join the group to use it and that's pretty much the only thing it gets used for.

I did just about every modification in the book. gearvr lens, wireless, DAS, battery, microphone + audio for DAS, fan, battery for wireless/counter balance. vrcover, even little clips to keep the DAS headphones right where i want them. The vp2 is an okay headset but not for that price. my main gripes with is it are the lcd panel and lenes design. the lcd colors and black levels are bad compared to the vp OLED. feels stereo overlap is sacrificed for a slightly higher horizontal fov, which i hated, small sweet spot and everything else around it was blurry. I was really disappointed hence i got a vive pro to cope since i still wanted wireless. If your thinking of upgrading anything, get the index controllers.

Is melee combat in Skyrim fixable yet? I've tried a chunk of mods and I don't know if it's just me not installing/configuring them right or if Skyrim is that hard to make melee work good. I've got the weapon speed fix, power attack stabilizer, Vigor(Just for parries), Ultimate Combat, realistic melee range, Sekiro combat for timed blocks, and locational damage.

But melee still feels jank as fuck or not working how it should. I'm not expecting Blade and Sorcery here, but some actual weight and responsiveness would be great. I haven't tried the VR Essentials Wabbajack mega patch since I've been wanting to add a chunk of my own mods, particularly a couple Star Wars ones floating around and one of them is massive in scale, but fuck it I'll try figuring it out if it makes melee just work.

Played about with the settings:
Enemy count only goes up one level and there are noticably more enemies scattered around the map but raiding locations like the train station and village felt mostly the same as before. Used with higher enemy perception it did make clearing out the village slightly more difficult as several spawns and fragments from the surrounding area were drawn in by my gunfire. I was hoping enemy count could go even higher but maybe that would make things too difficult in the lategame levels.
Anomaly amount also only goes up one notch but it seems to add a lot of them, as if all the possible spawn points are now being used. It looks great seeing a huge field of them and you really need to watch your step now.

Hmm this is actually an interesting concept. It probably can't be scaled up. Still, imagine if you could just get actors to play as AI in games. It's a DLC unlocker that replaces your steam_api.dll, which is what games use to communicate with steam. This thing is specifically meant to intercept the "Does this guy own this DLC?" question, and answer yes while not fucking with anything else. For most games this means you automatically have all DLCs. For some you need to specify the ID of the DLCs, for others you need to download the DLC files first. It needs some work, but it totally works, it's undetectable and I despise DLC so I use it for most stuff that's riddled with it (like for example Paradox games)

At full MSRP+Shipping of almost 1800 bucks? Unless you're rich enough to impulse buy a Varjo Aero fuck no is it worth it. I got mine for 800 bucks from a guy trying to get rid of it fast since he was moving and wouldn't be able to fit it. It was a steal there but it's definitely not worth over 1000 bucks unless you're a real rich fucker who's already got the best stuff. You'll get more out of a better HMD.

I like it, I don't find it too much of a gimmick and it doesn't feel horribly unnatural for me to use. Not a completely natural walk but it feels 'close enough' even with the sliding that I like it. That said, if you''re playing very twitchy games like Contractors or Pavlov, you won't get as much use out of it. Strafing is total ass outside slow, single player exploration. You effectively can just run forward and then use a foot gesture to backpedal. In slower things or single player experiences like Skyrim/Half Life: Alyx, it truly shines and you actually start viewing larger VR worlds differently when you physically gotta run up the massive mountain. Immersion on larger maps, even in FPS, is great. It works for everything which has thumbstick smooth locomotion.
>>378952383
You can crouch in the Kat Walk C just fine. Though you'll want to set your game floor slightly higher than your real floor to make it easier. Since while you can pick up things at your feet, it's still kind of a bitch to do.

never heard of this before, how much better is this vs an index? I did minimal research and everything I saw said 'index best'

kind of disappointing to hear that the kat isn't great for pavlov, as that's pretty much the only game I've put hours into aside from beat saber so far, but it does sound ideal for heavily modded fo4/skyrim playthroughs. are there any specific models/manufacturers that support strafing better? no reviews I've seen in the past half hour or so of googling have even mentioned it. Ill definitely keep my eye out though because frankly, compared to my actual treadmill, these vr ones are not as expensive as I was expecting (and seem way more fun)

>Index best
You need to do more research. The only thing the Index is best in is sound and high refresh rates, but it's beaten in the latter by the 5k Super. The Vive Pro 2, 8k X, or G2 in clarity by a sizable degree without costing crazy more, the former 2 already in the steamVR ecosystem. The Aero blows every VR headset out of the water in clarity and has unique lenses, pixel density over x2 that of the Index and vastly better lenses, but it costs 2000 dollars and lacks a microphone or built in audio outside some dinky earbuds. If you want absurd FoV(160 degree vs Index 108) then Pimax is the go to. The Index is still amazing in is on a plug and play factor but it's really showing its age at almost 3 years old by now in everywhere else.

As for treadmills, no not really. They all have a fundamental problem with moving anyway except for forward. They technically can strafe, but it and moving backwards use foot gestures, you either move your foot to the left/right and angle it up or behind you pointing down. The problem with this is there is a very small bit of lag between the gesture and actually moving. It's not large, maybe half a second or less when I tried it, but that's a horribly long time to react in Pavlov. Plus you can only move "Full Speed" in those directions, there's no careful movement like when barely moving the thumbstick. This makes it poor for when you need very small, precise movements which the treadmill can only do when moving forward.

What it really needs is weapon durability to force you to constantly be picking up and salvaging new weapons and some objectives that aren't just moving between arenas. Fixing up the physics combat and the interaction between physics and animation is another thing too but it seems to be that you get out what you put in. If you fight controlled and steady you'll get the same in return. If you slam into them full force and waggle it'll be mayhem just the same.

ty anon, lot of stuff for me to look into. I took the extremely lazy route bc I had assumed vr was a gimmicky meme for years and hadn't even tried it until my index got here a week ago. But I'm definitely already noticing some inadequacies with the index, its kind of heavy, cable is a bit annoying (even with ceiling mounted pulleys) and the face plates are /awful/ for cardio/sweating. Will definitely do some research on some of these other HMDs, vive seems interesting because I could keep the index controllers (which I'm really loving). Also how legit is pimax? Never heard of this brand and just judging their website on face value it seems.. janky..? (the 'vr accessory mystery loot boxes' and shit seem a bit sketchy to me). Also do any of these headsets approach the index in terms of audio? (absolutely loving the sound) My major concern is how likely it is that valve announces an index successor soon. As you said, it's nearly 3 years old now, and they seem to be ramping up their hardware game, and I wouldn't want to buy an additional, slightly better, 'current gen' headset if the next version is right around the corner.

for treadmills, after reading lots of reviews and your posts it seems like I shouldn't waste money on one unless I can catch a good deal on a used one

ty for the helpful spoonfeeding

I have self repaired two controllers now. Both work okay. One of them doesn't track as well as it used to (I broke some pins inside lmao) and the thumbstick click doesn't work (not sure why...). The other one I slightly tore a ribbon cable putting it back together and the finger tracking of the middle finger is broken now. Else than that it works fine.

I don't recommend it to be honest, my strategy was to wait until the drift was so bad the controller was actually unusable, and then try for a repair after buying a new one.

My recommendation:
1.Try RMAing anyway (valve is pretty kind especially with thumbsticks)
2. Buy a new one
3. keep old one as backup for games that don't need a thumbstick, or that are comfortable enough with thumbstick remapped to touchpad.

Pimax is legitimate, but finnicky. They're very much enthusiast HMDs designed to be tinkered with and may need some settings dialed in to work right, not the most plug and play friendly, but they give you a bunch of options like adjusting individual color channels, backlight brightness, and software IPD offsets if you got misaligned eyes so you can fine tune your image how you like. They're trying to clear a bunch of inventory because they're doing a new line up of HMDs later in the year, probably hence the lootboxes. Look up the 12k, it's got absolute retard insane specs and you can trade in the value of any current Pimax headset for it. Pimax is also lighthouse tracked. Just buy from anywhere except Pimax themselves as their return policy is only 7 days and their HMDs are kind of finnicky. They're my favorite and the FoV is amazing, but they're not for everyone. Some games you also need to enable a performance intensive fix for due to canted displays, but few of the larger games require it aside from stuff like MSFS or Elite Dangerous.

Also don't worry about Valve announcing a successor. Contratry to some rumors fanboys would have you believe, by all indication Valve is not making a new HMD any time soon and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see it till 2023 unless Valve have become the best secret keepers in the industry. Audio wise, the G2 uses the exact same speakers, but it's got 10 degrees less FoV and a tiny sweetspot. Pimax has some off ear headphones, called the DMAS like the Index, but stock they sound nowhere near as good due to basic drivers, but with some third party EQ some people have reported getting sound quality pretty close to the Index. As I said, it takes some tinkering.

Their current tiers have the weapons hold magical charge for longer at higher tiers. Having some diablo style weapon progression like legendary tales would probably be okay but with the way blade and sorcery plays it's really hard to give weapons damage values any meaning. You can be a lot more savage in blade and sorcery and it sits closer to sim rather than arcade. I can't even think of what you'd put into stats or buffs outside of mana, damage, and health boosts.

Playing online in Push servers is the best way to learn, low downtime and objectives let you practice the very important skill of predicting other players movements. Bots have really forgiving hitboxes compared to players and they don't move like a human so that could hold you back if you practice offline. The shooting range workshop map is good for figuring out the ironsights of guns too, there's a section with moving targets to test rapid aim adjustment that makes it much more useful than the base game shooting range.

so I can keep the same bases (and controllers) from my index? it sounds like you have one of these, how heavy is it and whats the weight distribution like with it on your head? Is the cable heavy or too short (would I need an extender if I want to put it on my ceiling pulleys)? Any issues regularly using it for longer sessions? Is the faceplate a good material for cardio/sweat (wipeable vs the index fabric absorbing everything)? And if I'm understanding you correctly, I can buy an available Pimax right now and essentially trade it in for the 12k whenever that releases? That sounds like a sweet deal

>Some games you also need to enable a performance intensive fix for due to canted displays
How time consuming/annoying does this end up being? Also how much of an impact on performance?

Yes, you could keep the same base station+controllers. The weight depends on which one you get. The 5kS is about Index tier. The 8k X is pretty front heavy at almost 900g. However, there's some built in counterweight on the headstrap so it doesn't feel that bad. To a point it's less how much something weighs and more how it's distributed. The 8k X really wants 200-300g of counterweight on the back though, massively improves the comfort. With counter weights I got no issues playing for hours in it. The default cable is 4.5m but they sell a fiber optic one which is 6m. Default face padding is foam, but you can replace it with PU leather if you want and the foam is easier to soak sweat out of with a paper towel. You are correct on the 12k trade in. You get what you paid, minus taxes and shipping. Capped at the MSRP of the headset so it can't just be abused.

>Displays
It's just a toggle in the companion software, Pitool, and restarting SteamVR if it's running, that's it. How much a performance hit varies depending on how large you set your FoV. The largest is almost 30% performance penalty, while the other settings are less. You'll know when you need it because you'll get things like crosseyed double vision instantly. But the majority of games don't need it now.

Do your research before you buy a Pimax though, I mean it, because they can be temperamental and might be a little overwhelming for a VR newfag. But when they work, they work amazingly. Also if you have an AMD card don't get the 8k X, because newer versions aren't compatible with it.

I'm not much of a car guy either, the only racing games I played was Burnout and I'm completely content with my shitbox IRL. I only gave simracing a try because I saw someone selling the peripherals within walking distance for less than it was on ebay, thinking I could always sell if I didn't like it.

Turns out VR is perfect for racing, the immersion and sense of speed are great whether it's on track or rally. I found a niche I didn't know I had with classic cars and driving laps while listening to an album has become one of my goto ways to relax in VR. I highly recommend trying it if you have the time to look for an underpriced wheel.

I don't know if that's possible to do on most Expert+ songs but one of the reasons why beat saber becomes less strenuous over time is that your playstyle adjusts for minimal movement while still hitting notes. Expert+ deserves it's wrist flapping derogatories because that's exactly how a lot of people end up playing it, meanwhile the newfags working their way up through hard difficulty are still moving their whole body because they haven't optimised the exertion/fun out of the game.

I use one. There are pros and cons to it, depending on how good a one you make/get. The pros are that immersion is 10/10, making long distance sniping shots is easier, and with enough muscle memory you can get a good sense of being able to "ADS", especially snapping to headshots, more reliable than free handing it. If you do a lot of long distance shooting it can really turn you into a terror even without a lot of practice, pulled off loads of across the map kills one after the other with few misses in more open places, such as Blood Gulch in Pavlov.

The biggest con though is that you generally will have little bit slower twitch reactions because of having something physical in your hands and potentially a bit weighty, and in fast paced things even slowing down a little will get you killed. The other is that putting it down and getting things strapped to your chest or pistol can be difficult if you don't get one with a sling on it and detachable magnets for the controllers. And if you do get one of those, then you can sometimes run into issues where you need to fumble a little to get the magnets back in place, which can be mitigated by muscle memory. And lastly, in games where you can't calibrate the physical gunstock on a per gun basis, Contractors is the only one which lets you do this to my knowledge, you sometimes need to correct your aim due to the guns not lining up 1:1. I can't use the cheek rest to brace my head on certain guns in Pavlov because of this, for instance. Pump action shotguns can be awkward to use unless you have one with pump action. You sort of need to throw your hands and whole stock forward and then pull it back to pump the gun.

Reloads actually aren't a big problem on ones with a non magnetic offhand grip, like the VRMKIII, where you sort of grip it like you would a real gun without a foregrip and that's becoming more popular, but otherwise correct.

>immersion is 10/10
>making long distance sniper shots
this is kind of the major selling point for me, holding 'air' with any 2h weapon just immediately kills the immersion. I like bolt action sniping in flat games/IRL but I've hated it so far in every VR game I've tried, and the stocks seem absolutely perfect for that

>putting it down and getting things strapped to your chest
>can't calibrate on a per gun basis
these seem like 'solvable' problems in product design imo, are there not stocks that allow you to manually adjust their length + positioning? Would certainly be more of a pain having to physically adjust for different gun models but it seems doable / usable if you're mostly sticking with one loadout

>are there not stocks that allow you to manually adjust their length + positioning?
Yes, but maybe I wasn't clear. You can sort of get a 'general' adjustment that'll work for everything with a little adjusting and maybe not perfectly holding the grip like you would a real gun. But if you dial in a specific gun in these games where you can't calibrate per gun, such as Pavlov, you may end up breaking some other guns to be far more inconvenient to aim. And you aren't going to be doing adjustments to your stock midmatch. But if you only use a very small selection of guns it might not be a big issue.

As for things to look at, well it depends a bit on what controllers you're using and where you are. The Q2 is the most popular so it has a fuckton of options, some people have even made pump action stocks for it, like the Kobra Elite, which isn't in stock right now. If you're outside the US, then forget about VRS because they're a small American company and shipping probably sucks. Protube is another major one with many points of adjustment and magnet stocks. It doesn't have the off hand grip like the VRS and Kobra kind of do though, but they're top mounted vs bottom mounted so you may have a little more room to adjust your head.

I tried it months ago, so things might have changed, but:
>UI follows your vision in the most obtrusive, annoying way possible
>Menu diving is seriously a drag
>Building is very difficult
All in all, it's definitely worth checking out for yourself. Despite its flaws, it's pretty dope and is exactly what Valheim needed.

the UI is a bit better since the 0.8 update with wrist-mounted health and stuff, but I still wish there was a way to move status effects to the wrist. I do recommend https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/40 too to reduce the amount of time you have to muck around in the menus, even if it does feel slightly cheaty.

It's interesting Cambria might not have a facial interface. They're really going for that hanging AR headset or hololens feel, which I prefer. But perhaps this helps with face tracking too.

I just remembered that if they're doing SLAM directly in the controllers, that means the headset is now free to do hand tracking. Meaning, we can get hand tracking and controller tracking at the same time. Third-parties just need to make a strap accessory and this can be like Index controllers, but better. Or you could use a controller in one hand for locomotion, hand tracking for the other hand to do other stuff, and then have the controller in a holster or gun stock when you need to pick up a gun to use.

>>379288490
It's probably going to be good enough to not bother with a counterweight I think, if they moved the battery into the strap.

Pancake lenses are enabling ridiculously small form factors vs current VR Headsets. it's not at all unrealisrtic with several things on the horizon.

Apparently they result in very dim displays with low FoV.
Anonymous No.379298817 Replies: >>379302326
>>379298492
Yes, that's why, if you follow discussion about next gen displays, they are bright as the sun. Because you need stuff several thousand nits bright to get something comparable to what we have right now with pancake lenses. The whole industry is chasing higher res and smaller form factor, FoV is a distant priority for most.

Are your hands still black even as a white guy though?
Anonymous No.379302326
>>379298492
>>379298817
Some elaboration: the idea behind pancake lenses is that instead of letting the light propagate in the air, they use a layer to reflect light back into the lens, and then back in the direction of your eyes. So the light travels the same distance except it bounces around inside of the lens rather than going that distance simply through air. The problem is that you can't easily reflect light using a material but at the same time let light pass through it. So what they have to use are known as half mirrors, like in police interrogation scenes. That means half of the light is lost through a single one of those layers.

That's why pancake lenses need extremely bright displays. If previous consumer displays were not able to sustain such high brightness, then that explains why we're seeing pancake lens headsets come out now. That also explains why Sony can do HDR for PSVR2, since they're using the usual fresnel stuff.
