Coming soonish is May Day. On May 1st, a lot of places celebrate the turn of spring with festivals and food, and some places just whine about working. Here, we celebrate with blender and unity. And probably alcohol. Everyone new and old can learn to learn limbswapping and grafting feathers at any one of several servers.

This hacky poster may be updated with times if we decide to make it an actual structured festival, but it'd be cool just to get an avatar event together. Last year, it was january, and some people did some cool stuff. Letsee what we can do this year!

Spin station anon is back. over 2 years ago i experimented with a physics based way of doing a rotating station. I stopped because other projects seemed more interesting, but recently i've been wanting to get into this project again. Naively, i thought since i have learned so much about unity over the last 2 years, that it would be a breeze getting a ridigbody controller working for this. turns out that i still have a lot to learn. So i did what i did before. just slap a cylinder on the bottom and call it a day. though with all the bs i tried, i did get MRDW working with it. I hope to get an actual working version soon and if anyone has suggestions on how to get the player controller to work better im all ears.

I could if i really really wanted to. but i dont see an issue with using the default one. I was having issues with anything that dealt with setting a fixed rotation. Im trying to mimic the vrc player controller with a station. I can do that on a flat plane, but when you rotate things, it gets strange. for the longest time i was trying to use a lookrotation to look at the center axis of the ring. but that doenst rotate the rigid body around the center of mass, which caused other issues. I think ill take my friends advice and make a way of rotating to a vector via torque.

In unity and by extension UDON. Object’s transforms are not just 3dimensional. This goes for their rotation.

It’s actually 4 dimensions of rotation. X, Y, Z and W.
W here is the quaternion.
You usually do not need to think of this when using the animator component.

Toggles with constraints allows you to have a single mesh (gameobject or bone) transition cleanly from one bone's position to another without having a duplicate appear/disappear where you want it to be. Here's the tl;dw:

Considering Neos VR has been on its deathbed due to crypto and furry drama™ for quite some time, I've recently felt a sense of urgency to host an exploration time for EU before the platform dies and all of its content turns to dust.

This will most likely be hosted tomorrow between 20:30~21:30 UTC whenever EU vtol is over, no need to worry about being able to join the moment the lobby link is up as we'll most likely spend an hour or so getting people accustomed to the game's controls, features, and avatar set up system.

I recommend having an account set up before you join so your avatars and stuff you have created saves, you can create one here: https://account.neos.com/
I also recommend having an easily accessible folder with an avatar's fbx and textures of your choosing, avatar set-up is done in-game and is a bit of a tedious process, having more than one ready to import is also a good idea since Neos sometimes just doesn't like certain models and refuses to work with them. If you don't want to bother with the painful process there are plenty of publicly available anime-style avatars you can use instead.

I'm considering this a preliminary trial since I'm unable to plan ahead this week so I can't guarantee this won't fall apart, but I hope this all goes well enough to do it next week with a showcase of worlds planned.

Haven't really been up to date with the drama but here a few things to note
The game has not released an update since last November, before then it was getting patches every few days, sometimes daily
In November, co-owner#1 published a document on how fed up they are with co-owner#2 (who handles the business-side of Neos such as gathering funding and paying the devs) not actually paying the devs in actual money, making critical decisions of NeosVR's future on polls swarmed by cryptotards who don't give a shit about the game, and other similarly sketchy things.
But of course, since co-owner#2 runs the finances one can assume they're steadily running out of resources and will eventually shut down the servers.
The vast majority of the devs were furries who weren't getting paid the money (I assume) they agreed upon and instead were either doing it for free or getting paid in physical goods, either way they're pretty much fed up how the game is being handled and stopped doing work ever since co-owner#1 brought all the issues to light.
since I don't really give a shit about their drama I'm not really informed on the current state of NeosVR and its future, but things are looking pretty grim so who knows what they'll decide to do in the next few months
