Coming in less than a week is May Day. On May 1st, a lot of places celebrate the turn of spring with festivals and food, and some places just whine about working. Here, we celebrate with blender and unity. And probably alcohol. Everyone new and old can learn to learn limbswapping and grafting feathers at any one of several servers.

This hacky poster may be updated with times if we decide to make it an actual structured festival, but it'd be cool just to get an avatar event together. Last year, it was january, and some people did some cool stuff. Letsee what we can do this year!

Index is arguably still the best overall, but it's expensive.
Quest 2 is best on a budget or if you want standalone, wireless is a nice bonus if you don't mind latency.
Reverb G2 is good if you mostly want to play sims, has better resolution but the tracking isn't as good.

I remember a couple of years back, people were warned (by a few particular vocal people) to not use too many collision senders and receivers because not only do they make your avatar take forever to load, they also can cause people with potato PCs to crash and burn.

Has this changed now, especially with how Avatar Dynamics itself adds in what I assume are much more performance efficient collision sender/receiver scripts? One of my little nitpicks back then was how (long) hair and skirts would clip through the avatar when you're walking in a particular direction.

Optimization is not as simple as it was in 2018-2020 since the introduction of Avatar 3.0 and Avatar Dynamics which means people have a ton more shit on their avatar. Sure you can atlas and all that (which in all honesty causes issues if you plan to do cool stuff with your avatar. 1 texture 1 material simply doesn't cut it anymore with the amount of extra shit avatars have now), but even if everyone atlassed and was 1 texture 1 material your frames would not improve that much.

Now that you mention it, maybe you wouldn't even need Knuckles. Cambria could possibly do hand tracking and controller tracking at the same time, which means that at least within the headset's FOV, you'd get better finger tracking than Knuckles. Alternatively you could still use Knuckles but get better finger tracking when within the FOV. Someone would need to write the appropriate SteamVR plugin for this though.
