VRAM is the amount of RAM your videocard has. If you exceed that, it has to do a lot of extra legwork dragging your textures through your system's RAM or worse, your hard drive pagefile. The cache that can get UP TO 20 GIGS is where it's all kept in case it needs to load it up without downloading it again.

Considering most faggots here have roughly 8GB of VRAM, and the place you stand, and your system usually consumes around 3GB of VRAM normally, you have reason to try and not make your avatars bad.

By the way, crunch compression is only for reducing filesize.

Yes but I already had a WMR prior so I was inclined to go with G2 for the smooth transition. I never tried index so I haven't experienced what above 90hz is like.

The controllers are gonna be a problem with just a thumb stick + AB buttons. That was what was holding me back previously since binding hand gestures / face emotions is gonna be hell until I found out I could use my old controllers. Keep in mind that if you don't have a pc beefy enough for the higher end headset, you will need to lower the resolution/refresh rate anyway.
A headset's image quality isn't just the resolution and refresh rate by the way: lens, panel, cable, software, ... can all affect the thing you will see at the end. You might want to look for comparisons on youtube rather than looking at specs

I only have a 3060ti so I'm not able to run G2 at it's max settings. I'm currently running it on medium - high settings but I can't run VR right this minute to check my exact setting. I dunno what you want from smoothness since that depends on your computer specs. No screendoor effect but you should know that if you read the review. FOV is 114. (Only beaten by Pimax 170, Index 130, Vive Pro 2) So it's only 6 degrees worse than your other choice.

Some of the bases are literally the EXACT SAME TOPOLOGY. Some of them are the mesh is in the EXACT SAME SPOT but slightly altered topology, so they took tda bratz doll faggot model and traced it with mesh and larp as a modeller.

There's a difference between multiple reference models and literally tracing a single fucking model, basically. It's technically legal or some shit but deeply frowned upon and real 3d boys will mock you endlessly for it.

Booths actually allow for this in the licenses usually, which is why it's fine. I myself can't do anime drawing (of which imo is the true bulk of the work for booths requiring 2d drawing anime skills) but in my work I used 3 different base models loaded up in the project as reference, it lines up with none of them and after I had general form I spent a lot of time getting it how I liked.

This type of stuff can be super grey area.

Rindo itself is probably an edit of another booth, and booths technically have origination in vroids usually and so vroid -> booth -> other booth is kinda the meta

The issue with tda is people make complete fucking garbage out of it and make the OG author look terrible and it violates the license of the model. Booths allow derivative works so you can sell clothes and shit so a derivative base body is probably free game too

A year or so ago, I actually had this vague idea to make a collaborative website that firstly lists all the prominent MMD and Booth models, and secondly traces a graph about which base is inherited from which bases, and which are edits, and so on.

That was because I spent quite a lot of time on identifying MMD bases for myself and others.

But then I realized just how much time I had spent on identifying photos and models of just 20 or so bases and that there was so much speculation involved on my side, and that wasn't even taking into account other people disagreeing with my findings yet.

When setting up a VRM avatar in unity, you're supposed to edit your blendshapes for the given viseme, then hit apply, but there is no apply button.
"Create BlendShapeClip" will save it as an external file, which I don't think is you're supposed to do.

It's usable, that's about it. First-gen resolution was trash, and once you'll break the cable, entire headset goes to trash because all of the remaining new cables got scalped. Also, since cable is the weakest point of the setup, keep in mind that if you're buying used, it might already be on its way to go. It's not unusable, and arguably it has many upsides (low res is kiinda good-ish if you're bit of a poorfag because it lowers PC requirements, CV1 tracking wasn't horrible, and CV1 controllers were honestly amazing), but I feel like you're near guaranteed to get a setup with a cable that's nearly dying.

Used and discontinued headsets need to be much cheaper to be worth it. The cables are a common failure point and you have no idea how well it's been treated. Replacements are long out of production and can now cost more than the entire headset.
