I've been having a problem I've asked four people for help with, but I also want help understanding it. For some reason no explanations make sense so I'll ask here.

I got fucked up normal maps from funny orc game, and I need to fix them. I have CS5.1, 2020, Gimp, and imagemagick. No matter what I do, I don't seem to be able to swap out the channels like I'm supposed to and it's like I'm missing a clear key part of how.

I know the alpha channel is supposed to go into red, and according to K the blue is to be whited out. I've spent the better part of a day just trying to figure it out in all these things, and it makes me feel like I'm back in school because I'm stuck on what is essentially a really easy problem. And the problem is the steps taken. I know what I'm supposed to do, just not how to do it.

Yes. Every seperate object or mesh should have an armature modifier, and that armature modifier should point at the armature you have.

Keep in mind the bones also line up with vertex groups, so for every bone, you need weight painted to that bone's vertex group, for that mesh

Weight painting isn't per armature, but per bone/vertex group. If the vertex groups have the same names between both models, or the bones do, it should be fine.

Otherwise you'll be fixing the hands and feet forever.

Heads up: Bones and stuff are case sensitive. If you merge the armatures and they aren't namede the same EXACTLY, you'll have double bones. You'll need to fix that by renaming/F2ing everey bone in the models to match the one you're merging to. You can do it!

Looks about right ( alpha to red, blue pure white ).
In photoshop, select layer -> layer menu -> layer mask -> From transparency. This will extract the alpha to a layer mask.
In the Channels tab, enable only the newly create mask layer and select all, copy, and paste it into the red channel, then delete the layer mask.
Select the blue channel ( ensure others disabled ) and paint it pure white, and you should be done.
Sorry, no idea how to do it in Gimp.
Probably simple with a Python ImageMagick/Opencv script

Utilize the terrain tree painting and make sure you only have a few variation of tree types and each tree type’s material is set to gpu instanced and make sure it has a billboard mode at a set distance and fully culled at a certain distance too for vr I use 50meters for full cull ymmv.

This is what I used for the brigade club room world. I suggest you install the unity standard asser package as it has a few trees that is well made and optimized you can copy how to make.

Does Bone Lab randomly crash for you guys? It's pretty annoying. My character also keeps slowly lowering over time so I have to keep the stick up almost constantly.

I haven't used Waifu diffusion much but I really feel like NovelAi blows it out the water. It really seems like high strenght tend to be so much more reliable.
It can give you so many different results with just the same prompt. The ease of use is a welcome plus.
You still gotta be patient with your prompt and fiddle with the settings, It's not perfect of course but I feel like it fills the missing gaps much better.
I'm not sure if I'd recommend it just for image generation, I already had a sub to NovelAi since I enjoy using it as a writing tool.

The Ai might put some things where it's not supposed to (You'll probably come across the double pair of shade which does look pretty funny), but just generate more until you find one where everything falls into place.
Fiddle with the strenght and noise meter a lot but keep the noise meter at around half or lower that of the strength meter. iirc my personal sweetspot was something like 0.65 strength and 0.25 noise but ymmv.

Depends on what you actually want it to do. It's pretty smart when it comes to tags so you can really just tell it what you want it to do and it'll fix things up.
Another thing I noticed is that you can put tags in if you have like a very specific style you want it to match. Typing "disgaea" or "jojo" will change the style of the image to closer match those styles.
Another useful thing is the seed system. Put the seed of the image you want to change up in and then play around with the tags to get the style closer to what you want.

This one was generated off the same vrchat screenshot, but I didn't like it so I added in things like "star shaped pupils", "bright lighting" and "warm smile" and it changed it up to the image you see above.

I'm making a game and I found it'd be easier to make armor for my characters if I straight substituted parts of their bodies with the armored versions, which is fine, that works all well and good currently

But the issue is I don't know how to handle it if these substituted parts have things like capes, cloaks, or clothes with any form of "bounce" or extra animation needed for them.
I could have unused bones that become active when one of these pieces are substituted in, but there's gonna be way too many armor pieces for anything like that. Not every cape or cloak will function the same, and I want to add a lot more unique stuff down the line.

Anyone know anything about this? Or able to throw me any keywords to look up, or videos to watch on this? This is kind of a niche topic and hard to learn about.

I have a Kat Walk C2+ anon, backed the kickstarter, if you wanna know anything about it. If you can try it before you buy somewhere it might help, but it's also kind of hard because the tracking is 10x better vs the original C1. Like, it's actually almost 1:1 accurate now and you can make some small moves too. Takes some getting used to to walk on.

You really gotta have some disposable income to make it worth buying at almost 2000 dollars after shipping. I got mine for less than 1400 because of kickstarter discounts, and half that since I sold my old C1 to pay for the upgrade. So value for me was a lot better a proposition. Unless your budget is "yes" I might wait a few months to see what comes on the horizon for the new HMDs. I love my Kat Walk C2, but it's definitely for a niche enthusiast. What you find out after the campaign is that the minigames are the primary game and the campaign is the side content. My experience with it was pretty bad; I was having fun going through the tutorial, then I hit this doors area and I'm like okay now what. I find the crane immediately and play with it a little. Takes me a few minutes to realise that I am literally forced to go inside every minigame to progress; so I sit through 10 loading screens just to enter and exit each minigame (mods starts active). Then I start moving the godawfully slow and painful crane around; I get 4 balls in and the crane gets caught on the solar system one, so I restart. This means I do the entire crane thing again and by this point I've spent 20-30 minutes on crap.

first of all, stop using vannilla sd or waifu diffusion 1.2
use waifu diffusion 1.3 latest.

Second, replace underscore by spaces, seperate tags by commas.

Third, waifu diffusion is very good when it can "recognise" what's on a pic. If the pic is too complicated or too cluttered it will fail and nothing you do will make it look good, novel.ai is trained on bigger dataset and is better, but wd 1.3 with danbooru tags is still pretty darn good when it works.

WD1.4 is supposed to have multiple milions of images, I hope it's gonna be even better, on level on novel.ai.

I use WD 1.3 then playing around with the settings. But the AI seems to have some problems still. I mainly used tags that was in the pic, hoping the AI could match the tags to things in the image. Artist tag at the end changed up the picture the most, the more images an artist had on danbooru, the more coherent the AI image became.

Use DeepDanbooru interrogate button to get good starting prompt. You can just download the zip file and just replace all files in your existing installation.
