I finally upgraded from my Vive to the Pico 4. It's pretty good so far. Thanks to high resolution the dreaded SDE is gone. The only thing that could be improved is a bigger FOV. Is vrchat miscounting the materials when it comes to particles with trails? I have a particle that I have set in the renderer module to not render the particle but still have a trail on it with a material. This should be one material (just the trail) but the stats in the builder show it as two.

Learning my way through making toggles but it's not working right?

I made a toggle for a necklace object. When I hit the toggle (in-game) it correctly enables it, but then when I hit toggle again to turn it off it just stays on, it doesn't turn off the necklace?

In the fx layer I set up with the default state being called "OFF" and has no motion, then transitions to the "turn on necklace" animation when necklace parameter=true, then transitions back to the off state when the param=false. What could I be doing wrong that isn't making it turn off when I hit the toggle again?

Just put the spawn in animation into the toggle and uncheck looping on the inspector window for the animation file. If the final frame is what you want it to look like after the spawn in animation is complete, you don't need to do anything else to the way the fx layer is set up.

You shouldn't be using shapekeys in unity, there's a performance cost to every active shapekey. It gets worse on higher polygon meshes.
(It's actually why there's a polygon limit; GPUs can handle way more polygons but shapekeys are just expensive so they put the polygon limit down pretty low because of shapekeys)

Well it's wrong. Shapekeys are vertex offset calculations; practically when it comes to optimization they chew up gpu resources calculating offsets all the time. Avoid using them on high polygon meshes.

That's questionable. It will look better on the performance ranks but blendshapes aren't ideal on performance
Just don't have like 10 meshes for clothing, have a small amount of meshes and toggle them on/off. Stuff like hats and props/accessories should be put on bones instead of a separate mesh. Bones have very little performance cost.
This method isn't viable for complex things like jackets/tops or pants but it works for stuff like hats or ears, and tails.

if an outfit is autodresser compatible with your avatar, just merge the armature in blender. it will take 10 seconds and then you won't have to deal with your avatar being irreparably broken.
