I had an Oculus Rift a couple of years ago and remember it being absolutely mind blowing since it was my first VR experience and even just the initial tech demo was amazing. What I do not remember though was any firm of immersion breaking "goggle effect". I got the PSVR2 and was a bit disappointed by the FOV and binocular effect but when googling it seems almost all headsets have about the same FOV. Do I have an overly romantic memory of the Rift or is the FOV more narrow on PSVR2?

It's probably going to make the game more cancerous, being a dev-owned and dev-curated space that will undoubtedly be shoved into your face ingame. Booth is essentially a community effort at this point, and community-led efforts are almost always higher quality than things done by the developers of a game themselves.
That said, I really don't know if a marketplace will take off in VRC. It works in other games because they have premade player models and strict curation. You're purchasing a skin or an outfit for your player character.
VRChat, as it stands, still allows me to upload literally anything through Unity. Including pirated booth assets, free models, the entire library of MMD/XPS models and outfits, and absolutely anything else I can get my hands on (such as gamerips). A marketplace has no real value to me as a consumer. Even normies don't benefit much because they tend to just buy premade shit off gumroad or booth and upload it wholesale.

Cardiff was surely a Quest 3 variant, the original mention of it says it was listed alongside what would become Quest 3 and not with the high end headsets. There's a lot more factors than comfort, it needs to be comfortable, and if it's standalone (which will grab more market share), it really needs 6-8hr battery life. Companies all collectively decided to shovel badly made and overpriced VR ports of flat games onto headsets, and then got butthurt about VR when they didn't sell well. Coupled with the biggest VR userbase being Questlets, making fully fledged VR games that surpass what the Quest is capable of is not deemed profitable enough to them.
If Fallout 4 VR, Skyrim VR and Hitman VR weren't so disappointing it would have already sold better. More indie devs should jump on the VR train, like PAYDAY 2 briefly tried (before the devs' HQ was quite literally raided by police because their CEO did an oopsie with insider trading). If popular cult indie titles like Deep Rock Galactic had VR support, that would probably entice a lot more people into the hobby.
You can't expect triple-A devs to pick up the slack on that anymore, so don't expect shit like Hogwarts Legacy to get good official VR ports. It's up to the smaller studios to implement it as a side project now.

If Sizebox (Garrys mod 2) ever gets released, I believe it will be the perfect companion for VR. VRChat, as much as I love it, seems too limited in its capabilities. People generally stick to social worlds and the game worlds people do play are more basic than a mobile game you only play when you squat on a john.

My personal conclusion is that one of the essential problems with VR is a paradox: there are still many real-life constraints like the limits of your playspace, and the workarounds are fundamentally immersion-breaking. But the more life-like VR becomes, e. g. by a functional omnidirectional treadmill, full body haptic suits and whatnot, the more difficult it becomes to play games (in addition to expenses and bothersome set-ups before you can start playing); with traditional video games, a 400lb nerd in his mom's basement can navigate the wilderness of a medieval world and fight monsters with the click of some buttons; but if he actually has to get off his ass and run around, swinging his sword and whatnot, he might simply not be able to survive.
Sure, there can be workarounds, just like you can adjust the power of your punches in Thrill of the Fight, but I think one of the fundamental problems (in regards to mass adoption) is that VR games are physically more demanding than flat-screen video games. It's just more relaxing to just sink into your couch and press a few buttons on a controller than to get up, dress up and get active yourself.

Well, it's gotten to the point where smaller players in the market can release their own products, albeit at a higher price tag. Just look at the bigscreen beyond, something that cuts out all the extras, but it costs $1000. But for somebody that already has the lighthouses and controllers, that's now a pretty interesting upgrade you can make in terms of screen quality, display resolution, and size/weight. I have to wonder if we're going to get more like that in the upcoming years, rather than relying on these big companies for VR. It would retreat back into enthusiast territory and pricing, but we would still get improvements over time.

There are a few chads who get by with public avatars because they're literally just using a straight gamerip that also no one else uses (and it fits them really well).
But you should make your own avatar, porting MMD's into VRChat is incredibly easy and getting a free premade booth model is even easier.
