Yeah I prefer my method to the others because there's much less guesswork involved. The metho with gradient maps that relies on playing with the black and white image until it "looks right" is really hit or miss, and also introduces some unwanted artifacts. So I sidestep those prblems by not using that method.
Do please let me know if there's anything in my tutorial that's unclear, I want to make it as usable as it reasonably can be.

Are there any reliable cpu benchmarks for vrchat? It's easier to find benchmarks for gaming in general but different sites seem to have conflicting results. Is the 5800X3D better than a 13600 or worse than a 13400? Is it better than a 7900X or worse than a 7600? Is the 13600 better or worse than a 7600? Different sites give different answers, how can I tell who's right? Some people say it depends on the game, if that's true vrchat is what I'm most interested in.

You won't find much non-anecdotal evidence on the GPU issues because by nature, this isn't something you can easily quantify. All I know is that AMD doesn't support certain shader features or only supports them halfway/in a weird way. And I'm not talking about RTX or anything silly like that, I mean actual shader features like alpha to coverage which is weird on AMD.
Certain cards or certain driver versions had issues for MONTHS in VRC's early days where the most popular toon shader was just invisible on AMD graphics cards.

If you're using Linux (probably almost no one here) then AMD is the GPU to buy. If you're on Windows (almost everyone here) there is a good chance that you'll need to do less troubleshooting when using an Nvidia card, they seem to work more smoothly with Windows than AMD cards. So if you're okay with troubleshooting a little you can save a decent amount of money with 6000 series cards. I would wait for driver updates before buying the 7000 series though.

I am planning on dual booting, Windows for games.

I have an AMD GPU and I have to reinstall my drivers every day, and every time I want to play anything. If I want to do VR I have to install my drivers, use DDU to remove, reinstall them again, Remove them again, then finally reinstall them and VR will now work once, at about 15fps.
You should never buy AMD, take it from me a very trustworthy AMD diehard fan, only ever buy Nvidia, buy every Nvidia card, they have never had problems and are absolutely best in terms of performance, value, stability and freedom. With an Nvidia card you can do anything, at any time, anyplace. Nothing can stop you, reality bends to your whims. With an AMD GPU you can't do anything, ever, and the cheapest of them costs at least 20k USD.

It's been a long while since we've done an avatar event. The theme this time is edgy/evil. I was thinking like spooky red eyes and big red armor but these are creative exercises so feel free to go wild.
Unlike previous avatar events, we're going to mix things up a little bit up on this one. There won't be a contest but there will be an avatar expo on an appropriately evil map for avatar pictures and display. After that there will be the obligatory group photo.
Also unlike previous avatar events, actually having an avatar will be required to be in the photos/event. For those that can't do that, I'll have a generic mook avatar prepared for you to use.
