Someone suggested that I just pack up my current install for folks who can't get it working right and newcomers, so that's what i'll do today: https://vrg.party/EmuVRfull.zip should work, I tried just exporting it into an entirely different folder and it runs from there, so hopefully. To be honest cpu, ram and ssd were an afterthought since I'm 99% sure I'm upgrading those.
What I'm really interested in is knowing if my 3070 is giving me low fps in vrchat because it's lacking in raw power or because I'm topping it's vram.
Currently undecided between 3090 - 3090ti - 4090, if the problem is just vram I'll go 3090, whereas if it's power I'll go higher, or maybe the 4070-80 route.
Don't take price into account, I've done my research and have my buy options/budget to be considering those three.

Okay I just tweaked my vrdesktop settings and my fps doubled. Had it on high (since it's their recommended setting for a 3070). Now I heard they implemented snapdragon super sampling which apparently makes lower resolutions look better? So I switched to "medium" and I'm getting much better fps and can't really tell the quality drop.
Is this common knowledge and I'm just retarded? Should I select even an even lower setting?
In game vrchat settings just change my fps by around 15 from lowest to max, yet this capped on some of my tests so I must be getting around 40fps more out of just lowering the res this is great.

ideally what you want to do is see at what kind of acceptable FPS you can get with your PC at which resolution and then pick the highest settings you can run without your card throttling during encoding and then dial down the resolution for the game

The former part was working, the later not so much. I could tell I wasn't getting good fps and in-game counter displayed 45 so the capping worked. The virtual desktop developer is a greedy obnoxious canadian goblin.
Even though he got a lot of money ($3mil even BEFORE the quest 2 release), nothing is enough for him.
Because of that he got very angry when the cracked version of his app started floating around, so he did what every reasonable person would do, he decided to turn his app into a malware, so if the user is not using the absolute latest version he would start spamming steamvr restart and opening and closing the notepad.exe non-stop, eventually freezing the PC, forcing you to restart it.
He pushed it to everyone remotely, even the legitimate users, bricking their perfectly working setups.
After that whole fiasco, the app is being treated like a malware it is, just like it deserves, locking it out completely from the internet access.
And also, couple of updates later, he disabled the ability to run the app completely offline.

There are some other things also, for example his complete lack of respect for the userbase or like how he is forcing everyone to use his garbage discord with rabid mods who shit on users if they even dare to say anything out-of-line, which he supports completely btw, if they want to get any information whatsoever.

even in real life, i never get together with my friends without something to "do," whether its going to see a movie, get coffee and catch up on work happenings, play darts or pool, or play games. Yeah, of course, sometimes some good conversations can be had as well, but with people who spend all their time in VR Chat? Sorry if i'm not super interested in the lastest gossip or how long it took you to make your avatar, but (as respectfully as possible here, honest) between being autistic and shutins, vrg people aren't exactly super great to talk to. i can't speak for everyone here but my experiences in vrg instances have either been:
1. friendly but awkward small talk where the other person decides they need completely ignore everything i'm saying and change the subject as often as possible to themselves, or
2. starting conversations with things like "i really hate your avatar's legs" like sure, that's not boring, but just because it's fucking autistic. i'll respond with "oh, haha, yeah, nice to meet you too!" and they just stand there and don't say anything and then walk away.

In fact, the number of times I end up having to bend over backwards just to fill silence when talking in vrchat makes me feel like i'm working a job at one of these cafes where you get paid to talk to lonely men.

all that being said, i think vrchat instances can be fun when its people watching videos together. watching tv/anime/movies alone is pretty boring, but watching them with other people ends up being great conversation fodder, and its something that actually works in VRChat, unlike all the janky-ass "games" and "experiences"

I find it nice enough to just go to a friends' house and chill, maybe bring my laptop and play some vidya but usually not even that.
I get that some people need some sort of activity because they can't hold conversation and can't stand silence (literally just learn to chill and say nothing sometimes), but that doesn't hold true for everyone.

You say small experiment but it has about as many enemy and weapon types as Alyx, and the gameplay is about as deep, just in a different way. All this game is missing is some actual FPS levels and it would've been a great major game. Levels are pretty cheap to make compared to enemies and gameplay mechanics, and those are pretty much done.
