I've been trying to create an actual avatar out of an MMD the whole night. I tried to separate the body into shapes so I can disable the clothes via an animation, and it worked but is this the right way to do it? And for some reason the characters don't look as good as their images on the mmdabooru, do you usually need shaders? I tried the blendshape thing with different avatars but there's no toggle to change the outfit.

Thanks for humoring me for 4 entire hours as I tried to slam my head into every puzzle. Link to the map if anyone else wants to try it out. There's checkpoints that save your progress if you can't do it all in one go.

Shaders are extremely important, yes. poiyomi and liltoon are some of the more commonly used ones for anime models. Clothes can be done either by splitting them into a separate mesh and toggling the object or by creating a blendshape with them shrunken and hidden inside the body that you can then animate to turn the clothes on and off.

Same things that are wrong with every jap shader. Nips are disconnected from the western world and all of the advancements they have made in shaders since 2018.
Default settings are bad (clamped lighting), coloration from lights looks off, no shadows by default either which makes you look really weird in indoor sections of outdoor maps.
You're better off pirating Poiyomi Pro or just using SCSS.
Liltoon users often have this weird sickly color to them whenever the world color isn't perfectly white. You can always instantly tell who's using liltoon because their color doesn't even remotely match the world.
It gets even worse with realtime lights and vertex lights as those are just either totally nonsensical or even downright ignored by liltoon.

People say you can fix all this in the settings, but that's only true for the clamped lighting issue. And even if the others are supposedly fixable with better settings, I don't see any of the liltoon users actually doing that. Most people use defaults.
Liltoon is definitely an improvement over the cancer that is UTS, but there's just so much better out there that it's pointless to stick to backwards jap shaders.

It would have been to better to standardize and have 5 highly optimized niche shaders for each use case.

Even if VRChat enforced the same shaders for everyone, their current pipeline doesn't allow them to actually take much advantage of this. URP might, but that didn't even exist when the game was made and even today URP is still far from mature.

I make shaders. It is very hard to get any amount of measurable performance impact out of simple instructions.
The moment you insert a 128 iterations for-loop in your shader to start raymarching some epic geometry, that is when you might start to feel it. But any sort of average PBR or Toon shader won't be doing this. Even a couple hundred extra calculations like multiplication (or even square roots/pows) will not even make a dent in the Profiler.
Modern GPU's, especially in the context of Forward rendering and VRChat, have enough budget to fill your entire screen several times over with pixels without dropping frames. It's extremely rare for pixel shader programs to be the bottleneck in this game.

Standard is basically neutered without realtime lights, and that is entirely the fault of Standard and the fault of people who still use shaders made 8 years ago. I test my map lighting with a variety of shaders, but I don't use it as a single source of truth.
Pro tip for Standard users: switch to Rero Standard, it's a hotfix for Standard that makes everything work in maps without realtime lights.

Honestly all I want is the specular shine to cover a wider area while still retaining the intensity. With standard shader the specular setting just has low being a wide, hazy, and dull shine with high being a tight, sharp, and bright shine. On any curved surface I suffer immensely trying to get just the right setting for it to have the right amount of shininess.

That's a tarkov problem, not a tabor problem.
Bee-lining extract is easy in tabor with your hud compass and the maps being smaller plus no injuries like broken legs to slow you down. There are also a lot of safe routes where you won't come into contact with AI. Generally when we are playing together, if someone dies the other cuts their losses and runs to extract or at the most will grab the other player's stuff and then go. Usually a 5 minute wait. If you make a loadout with the favouriting system in the trader market you can resupply and be equipped and ready to go in less than 30 seconds from loading into your base back from dead. Webm related.

There are no player levels or stats like tarkov, only trader levels. Missions are just repeatable standard stuff that, if you pick ones that match your loadout, you will get them done by just playing. Honestly I'd only recommend trying to get to trader level 2 in minty (armour) and spectre (guns) as quickly as possible if you're not going to rely entirely on scavenged gear.

I like it, especially the resolution and clarity, but the sweet spot is small, and there is more horizontal FOV than vertical FOV, which can feel weird at first. Default foam facial interface is WAY too thick for these lenses, you really want to get closer and get a replacement foam.

Audio is nice, microphones are meh, but putting small wind protector helps with p-s and breathing noise.

If you really want to feel what literally no SDE and high pixel density feels like - get it, it's literally OG Vive + DAS, but high resolution. It still suffers of the current gen lenses issues, pancake lens on Pro 2 would be a godsend, but it is what it is.

You're talking about effects, which is true, you have more rendering options with MMD type stuff especially since you don't have to render in real time.

The usual time for NA is 8PM EDT on Wednesdays, but it occasionally pops up at other times too. Server and mod details usually go up the day before. No Wednesday Assetto next week though since I'll be too busy to run it.
