Hello /vg/, this is my first time posting in a /vrg/ thread. I have recently bought a gaming PC with rtx 3060 and I'm considering buying a VR for the first time. I had been considering buying a VR since the first Oculus dev kit 1 release in 2013 but I never went for it. My main question right now is whether I should buy Quest 2 or wait for Quest 3 or whether to avoid buying VR at all if I can't afford a Valve Index or Decard. Yeah, unfortunately ragnarock is the least popular of the three, but it gets a lot of custom songs uploaded still, ragnacustoms is still growing. The great thing is that beatmapping for ragnarock is really easy and doesn't take much effort so you can pump out a beatmap for a song you wish had one in a few hours if you're bored enough. I found Synth Riders to be a much better workout than either of them, actually forces you to move your whole body more, where in the other two you can easily get into a habit of just flapping your arms/wrists. I agree about it being less satisfying though, better to feel like you're actually hitting the notes instead of just touching them

The eye tracking is very experimental and the only applications that really use it are VRChat, CVR and NeosVR. You can't use it as a "mouse" even just for the Oculus home menu, I tried.
Eye tracking data is available over Link and Airlink so if you're tech-savvy and want to tinker with it yourself for using it for PCVR applications or controlling your desktop view, you can.

Yes, because wireless with no tradeoffs would be the dream. They don't wish for "wireless and video artifacts", they are wishfully thinking about some magical and nonexistent way to just get rid of the wire. If they were okay with the video compression they would get on their Quest 2.
The tradeoff is ALWAYS going to be video compression, because that's the only feasible way to send that much video data over the network. Video compression rapes the quality and introduces extra CPU+GPU overhead, and that's 100x worse in any VR game.

I'm sure you don't mind seeing some compression in Tactical Assault VR, because that game is already low-fidelity as heck (thanks to it being a Quest 2 game). But I want to enjoy the nice scenery in The Talos Principle VR thank you very much.

You could say "oh but trackers are only useful in VRChat", but the reason for that is because VR games can't implement any interesting uses for trackers because the Quest doesn't have it. I think Udon would be way better with this addition. Think of all the uses we would get out of this. World creators have been crying out for breaster features for a long time. Maybe this would put Udon on par with CVR's scripting language that is definitely real and coming any day now.
