Not really. Because the dev made all of the levels out of a ton of individual objects the CPU hit can be rough. I drop frames like crazy on Neuron Activator with my 7800x3D. I just shot gas grenades in and ran out to finish that mission.

The guy who made the VR mod did his best to merge as many of said objects he could together, but in most custom levels where none of that happens the game isn't very playable.

There will be a hub world with portals so anyone can visit the worlds at any time but for the event itself the host will have pre-favourited the worlds so they can drop friends+ portals

After doing more testing with the quest 3 I'd now say that if you're using airlink/virtual desktop wireless with a fast charger you can play indefinitely as long as you've got the juice to feed it. On link cable though I haven't found a good way to get more than maybe 3 hours best case. I am unsure if this is due to the kuject link cable working as intended, the device failing to properly power negotiate, or some other reason. Gonna have to wait for more people to test I guess as I'm not sure if the cable issue is specific to me though it matches not too far off from what I've seen others report. Headset is in a frustrating place if they can't get it living for longer on the wire because it looks so good when you are doing proper link cable, I don't really understand why there's such a battery drain disparity.

Almost passed on this because the webms looked slow but holy shit it's literally Titanfall 2 in VR in a Borderlandesque setting. Grappling hooks, wall running, crouch slides. I didn't think I'd like the arm swinging sprint but it actually works really well and I prefer it now that pressing a thumbstick.
There's fuckton of crates with ammo you can scavenge, or use enemy weapon drops. You can store ammo for weapons you do not have in your belt and that gives you a huge incentive to swap weapons. Only issue I really had was the anchor points for shoving in mags and reloading but I'm sure that's trivial to fix. God I'm actually pissed that the demo is over now.

Depends a lot on what you plan to game. If you plan on going into VRChat update to a 5800x3D, apprently doubles fps on it and most unity vr games due to some cache magic. Uses the same socket as your 5600x so you don't need to change the motherboard.
I'd say that's the more performance/money upgrade you can make. Maybe go for vram next but I'm doing good with a 3070

VR games are performance heavy and usually unoptimized, I often have to turn down some settings to avoid frame drops. Visual quality is subjective, I'd rather have jaggies than blurry TAA and I prefer to turn down settings instead of lowering the render resolution.

i've done a few dungeons, one multiplayer with one other player. graphics are simple but not unappealing, combat is also simple with one annoying mob so far that teleports after each hit. killing skeletons has been hanging back during their attack animation then a solid swing to the neck pops off their skull. dungeons are big and it's fun exploring all of them to max gold and blueprints. crafting is just using gold to build the blueprints you find which for me has been bows, cosmetic armor, and a shield. there seems to be a lot to craft so i'm hoping for a longsword as the starter one feels just a tad short. so far i'd give it a 7/10 experience

It still has the same amount of extra L3 cache that helps a lot. Losing a couple cores shouldn't matter in VRC since it doesn't utilize extra threads very well and the boost clocks are pretty similar. And even in sim stuff like Microsoft Flight Simulator, it's pretty close performance wise, so I wouldn't worry about it.
If you really wanted to go for the 5800x3d instead though, you should be able to get one for less than $100 difference if you look around.

As for the actual hardware, that should work as long as your laptop has the proper connections for the headset (you'll need to check the specifications...) but you may need to run on pretty strict performance settings when you're around large groups of people. I'm looking at a used 3090 for the time being as a drop-in upgrade (I could probably get one for the cost of a new 4070 with tax). Maybe late next year or early 2025 I could justify doing a fresh build, and ideally there'll be better, more sensibly priced GPU options. Maybe a 4080 super with inexplicable price drop and vram bump. Or a 5080 that's worth it the first time around, or AMD getting their act together with VR compatibility.

Maybe I'll finally stop being poor, who knows.
