Why isn't there a basestation-tracked controller available that adheres to the current standard of button and trigger configuration?

There's only the Vive Wands which most modern VR games struggle to even support considering their utter lack of inputs.
Then there's the Index which has a habit of breaking and doesn't quite adhere to the current industry standard button configuration.

If Vive came up with, literally, their Focus 3 controllers, but put the little steamvr dimples on em, they'd be fulfilling a niche that no other company is.

I think if you want to involve EU anons, you would have to do something even earlier than that, but it doesn't seem like it'll work out anyway. When I played with some EU anons and participated in an EU-based racing league, it was usually around 3 PM EST or so, which I wouldn't mind much if that wasn't like 8 AM where I live. So I gave up on that since I'd usually be snoozing too. Time zones and different work/school schedules fucking suck - simple as.

If any of them are running Castlewars, I think the name is, it's a fun little map to fuck around on and learn how to shoot since it's an instant respawn TDM without the cancer of doing that on a map that isn't intended for it so you get spawn camped by accident once player numbers get high enough. I play on drunk sober Pavlov, not Gem, but I personally think the burst guns are very under priced for as good as they are since they come with an Acog for free which is nice once you learn how to handle a 4x in close quarters while doing rifle damage with the vanilla balance settings. However, you can never really go wrong with the wooden AK, M4, or Deagle since they're all good unless Gem massively shakes things up.

Any gun that kills through helmets and isn't a bolt action is good. AK47 is the best weapon in the game because it can do this and also is full auto. Still, I'll stick to my revolver and pump shotgun on gem server. Both are pretty strong and fun to use. Default pavlov all of the shotguns and SMGs are useless. You have to use something that can get through armour like a rifle or heavy pistol or you're just going to tickle them. Pretty sure drunklov and gem server use the same stats.

I enjoy the autosnipers, but I think they're pretty niche to terrible since the TTK is so much higher if you don't tap the head on the first shot, while the burst weapons do good body damage and if one of the 3 bullets hits the head in addition, that's a kill even with armor.

Unfortunately with pavlov if you take their helmet off you only do a percentage of their remaining health instead of flat damage. Basically it means if your gun doesn't go through helmets for a kill you still need to land the first shot as a head shot to get the most damage out of it. Otherwise you might have them low enough to kill on a body shot but ping off their helmet and have them live.

The burst delay makes their TTK worse than most of the SMGs. They are still more powerful than the SMGs because the shots to kill dictates the outcome more at any distance where you aren't hitting every shot. Compared to the M4/Galil they have no advantage unless you really like the acog. Compared to the AK12/Famas, there may be a mid range where the burst is better than high recoil, but at close range the burst is losing, and at long range, they're both going to be essentially hitting single shots where the AK12 will be slightly better.

At certain prices there needs to be a bit of a powergap for anyone to actually want to buy it. Between the UMP and MP5, for instance, if the MP5 is only a little better then everyone will just buy the UMP. Above 1200 and 1700 are two prices I've noticed there's a reluctance to spend. The MP5 is currently a significant upgrade over the UMP, but both get bought because players perceive a change in expected value between 1200 and 1400. There's another in the low 2000s, possibly 2200. Anything above that needs to be a top weapon, not something bought as a compromise, not anything with a 300 ms delay between bursts, or extremely high recoil. Burst weapons at 1900 or 2100 is a minor economy difference, but any higher and the AK12/Famas will be pushed to a price bracket where no-one wants them.

Although some games like Gran Turismo and Forza are obviously more get car's speed more accurately. That got me wondering if VRChat had any balls they'd make their own AI assistant that could do many things AND have a 3D avatar where you could interact with it. The first time I tried VR was when my friend introduced me to Assetto and I had a blast - I felt kinda queasy after an hour, but I could've kept going and never felt ill again since. This was before Custom Shaders Patch existed though. I usually have a solid 90fps on my rig, but depending on what I'm doing with AC, Oculus will sometimes switch to ASW mode unless I force disable it. That hasn't been much of an issue anymore with recent CSP versions that include optimizations for VR though.

In the end of the day SteamVR is still the only really useable open standard on the market which allows you to not be vendor locked in and mix and mach devices from many vendors and different tracking types. The tech is not that basic, the hardware requirements are relatively "simple" in as much as you just need a high speed motor and IR laser emitter, but they have to be extremely high precision because of how tracking works. If your motor speed fluctuates or is too slow or too fast tracking is completely fucked because it's measuring the angle from the ground plane based on IR pulse timing. It so happens that hard drive motors are made for this kind of high speed, high precision, extended runtime use (and in case you hadn't noticed, hard drives are also kinda expensive).

As for why it's *still* expensive, that's simple. It's a niche product targeted at a higher end market. Quest is only cheap because they're selling (You) to offset the cost. Lighthouse tracking could easily have been the standard and would probably have come down in price but as always corporations hate open standards so everyone who entered the market rushed to create their walled garden like always, it had nothing to do with Valve not licensing it or whatever. Hell they did basically all the R&D for the original Vive and handed it to HTC on a silver platter and they STILL went the walled garden SLAM route in the end in a desperate attempt at vendor lock-in.

One of the best co-op game I've played. There's about 20-30hrs worth of co-op content depending on the difficulty you want to play on.
The campaign is more of a tutorial to get you to try a lot of weapon to see what you like. The real game is co-op where you buy and customize guns to bring before missions.
There's a "realism" mode where everything dies in one hit but it removes all the strategic aspect of the game so I don't really recommend it unless you're going for the achievement.
