i'm not interested in standalone since it looks like shit but from what i heard PCVR headset are dead and there is no hope for something like Rift S 2.

Kind of but not really. The pimax crystal light is the newest headset on the horizon but it's not going to be worth waiting for. The beyond is expensive and niche, and the index is good but on the tail end of relevance.

The quest 3 is still gonna be the best headset to get right now. As for 'wired' - it shouldn't be used wired except to power it. Wifi actually has a higher bandwidth than the USB on it so it should be used to transmit video to play PCVR. Generally it's better to use the terms standalone and PCVR to signify what you're playing. Steam link and virtual desktop are both very good systems for playing PCVR on quest/pico/other series headsets.

In terms of raw value, the quest 2 beats the quest 3 simply because you can find one for like $200, used or new sometimes. But the Q3 is better.

contractors showdown is a relatively inoffensive battle royale, if you like that style of fps, and does have lobbies thanks to crossplay and being new. Hyperdash is always worth trying because it's free and has a unique feel (unreal-ish "arena shooter"). Even rec room had decent shooter games in it, but it was all squeakers last I played 3 years ago and I can't imagine it's gotten any better.

Pavlov does have crossplay with PSVR2 so the real playerbase is a little higher but it's limited to 10 player lobbies on vanilla maps. It's tolerable enough for Sneed&Dilate, Hidden or deathmatch as long as the PSVR2 players aren't lag teleporting all over the place.
If you want to play PUSH or custom gamemodes you're limited to peak time and whether the server has shit itself recently. A crash or bad map can kill a full PUSH server for the night.

I personally have worked with optical systems for over 15 years in the metrological industry, 3D laser scanners and trackers, but those lenses just made me aware that there is a quality level below zero. Stay away from it, you won't like what you see. Bah. Just bad. Nope. I have NEVER in my life seen anything that has this lack of quality. People are joking about Soviet age Ladas and modern Chinese tanks, but holy moly, Bigscreen invented the negative score on quality. There is optics designed for single pixel sensors that have better visual performance OUTSIDE the range o the signle pixel's field of view.

Maybe I just lack the proper terminology to describe such low levels of quality. I never had to deal with that kind astuff. I had broken and chipped lenses with fungii growing in between the individual panes, that performed better. HOW?? WHY??

The bad quality of the lenses negate absolutely every aspect that would make the displays great, we look at the virtual world through the bottoms of old beer bottles, even the google cardboard had more visual acuity. Edge to edge clarity, nowhere to be found. The SLIGHTEST offset due to misalignment makes everything look even worse. The glare just destroys every movie you are going to watch in a dark theatre enviroment. It just doesnt work. It just distracts, it forces you to NOT watch the movie but get distracted by all the glary garbage floating across your field of view. Being blind is probably more enjoyable that this utter failure. No, I am NOT sorry for the person that invested their life force into designing those lenses, I AM ASHAMED that a human did this and especially because a mass produced mediocre HMD like the Quest3 has better lenses, better in every aspect."

Yes, many "VR games" of today suck but personally, I use it as a simple replacement for a monitor (i.e. still using KB+M for all other controls). It's leagues more immersive to play any game whatsoever using a VR headset versus staring at a monitor. Actual VR games may or may not become good any time soon but as a piece of gaming hardware the headsets are already indispensable if you've actually tried them.

Confession time. Buying a 4090 was the worst decision of my life. The most played game on it by far? 4chan. New games? All garbage.
