It might be easier to copy assets folder from your VRC avatar's unity project. From that point, all you need to do is to remove all of the vrchat scripts, drop bonelab script on it, adjust eye height/body shape if needed, and change every material to use one of kosher SLZ shaders. Eh, I'd say you'll start running it at 20% strength anyway once honeymoon period of "wow it's so strong so cool" fades away. Running your wheel at high power is not great, it tires you out, maybe it even makes precise handling more difficult. But stronger base should also be faster, so there's a benefit, and if you won't like it strong, you can run stronger base at lower gain.

I didn't use either though, so that's purely theoretical. Why wouldn't you just go straight for R5? Are there any known downsides? Or just price?

Check your local used prices, and you might come to realize that those things don't drop in value all that much. Maybe you'll find some comfort in knowing that if you won't like it, you'll sell it with very little loss, though that depends on your local market - no idea where are you from and what's the situation around you.

I'd imagine R3 will be plenty nice. I assume you're not going for full autism racing sim with a dedicated seat, and in that case, sitting on an office chair in sub-optimal position will be much more bearable with a weaker wheel anyway. One way or another, I doubt any direct drive wheel will disappoint you, or give you an underwhelming experience for a first-timer. Then again, more is more.

but, again, it's all theoretical from my side, so google a whole lot for opinions and reviews. I'm hard into simfagging and I even got to drive in one of those meme hydraulic sims with cockpit that moves around, but my personal hardware is an old half-broken normie wheel that I never bothered to change because I'm too used to it

I wouldn't personally recommend any direct drive wheel to someone new to sims just because of the cost. My go to recommendation is G29/G920 or T150/TMX, but they're not as cheap as they used to be.

I'm planning on upgrading sometime soon, but I've been using my G29 for years. There's only one anon I know of here that even has a DD wheel.
If you got super into sims or money wasn't much of a factor for you, I could see more of a pull to upgrade, but I don't think it's a problem for most people.
That being said, if you don't mind spending the extra money, DD is definitely going to be better.

I've been here from the start and I have three acquaintances and zero friends. I haven't seen any of those in VR in multiple years and only exchange occasional messages with them at this point. One hasn't used it at all since 2019. I've never had anything more than fleeting interactions with anyone. On some level I think this is mutually enforced without either side knowing how or why. Years of looking for answers and trying to change myself made no difference at all. In such cases I think it is better to focus on what you can do, rather than what you cannot.

I've never had a great experience streaming VR, but it has always been acceptable.
Trying Steamlink made it clear something was very wrong, as it was straight up unusable.
After ruling out any wifi or router problems, it turns out my PC just shits itself during streaming, with pings on all network interfaces spiking to up to 1000ms exclusively when streaming VR, regardless of whether or not the interface is the one used for streaming.
I've updated everything a million times in the past, so after confirming other systems on the network were perfectly fine I decided to nuke everything and do a clean install. Win11 is unavoidable so figured I'd make the jump to that while I was it it.
Clean install fixed nothing, but installing the latest AMD chipset drivers ( v6.05.16.221 ) instantly resolved the issues, and I now everything is silky smooth.
If anything I'm amazed Airlink and VD managed to work as well as they did; Steamlink was probably shitting itself because it assumes perfect network conditions to minimize latency.

No real useful changenots for chipset drivers, and could have happened anytime in the past year, but streamed VR is finally smooth.

Resolution is too high to use without foveation for today's GPUs and probably the next few generations of GPUs if we're being honest.

Not soon I think. The Zucc AR glasses are in their earliest stages, more to get them in the hands of developers than anything else. VR is currently less than 1% of the gaming market overall and each quest headset is sold at a loss, but it's also been the fastest growing market sector of gaming (percentage-wise) over the past 5 years, so for future devices being able to bundle VR and AR capabilities together would be a big value-add. I do expect the eventual Quest 4 to have better pass-through cameras than the Quest 3 to better support AR. As much as people hate dealing with questies in VRC, I think they will be a really good thing for VR as a whole in 5 to 10 years.

AR as a platform has tremendous potential for a lot of interesting things, both in gaming and in more normie-focused applications, and yet nothing of note exists yet. It will be a while before it does I think.

-Grab carefully and make sure hand gets stuck in place before letting other one go
-Use thumbstick to adjust your crouch when holding something, for example when you want to climb up on the ledge, use right thumbstick down to crouch down so your legs get on arms level
-Don't ram hand into the wall, just place it on a surface and grab
-Sometimes you can just plain jump on top of something even if your jump height is less than enough: when you crouch and stand up fast in real life, your boner avatar gets extra momentum and jumps taller

it came with a table clamp, although if it's a really flimsy table it's going to shake the fuck out of it. (depends on the game I suppose, the ffb for dirt rally 2 gets a little vibrate-y at times)
I love the wheel and motor. pedals are ok. I put the extra doodad moza sells into the brake and added a clutch but they were still kinda eh. I found some 3d printed mods/springs and a loadcell to add to them and now I like em pretty good.

that being said, if you don't have something, anything to bolt the pedals to. a 2x4 that extends and presses up against the wall, or a heavy box or something, DO NOT get the extended load doodad as you will not be able to press your brake without the pedals sliding or flipping over.
I tried to make a little tray that holds the pedals and had a little hook to hold the wheel of my chair but I eventually gave up and built a whole frame I attached a racing seat I found on craigslist to.

the wheel/motor/software all work good for me but this is really my first foray into simracing

It has the same stats the AR9 has had since April. The only difference, aside from the model and suppressor, is that the recoil goes slightly less rightwards (green is HB, red is AR9). I can try to find which of the 300 recoil variables affects that, but unless I'm missing something it shouldn't be that different from a weapon we've had for over 6 months that saw minimal use.

Draco was very underrated after the stats got updated but most people opt for the budget SMGs or spend more for a cheap rifle so the mid-tier SMGs get ignored.
It was a bad gun during the years when it had vanilla stats and so did almost no HP damage before it had destroyed the enemy armor. That tainted it's perception to some degree. I like the new niche it has though, it feels like a direct upgrade from the Bizon in being able to use suppressive fire.

I don't think it's possible to have more than a certain number of perfectly efficient options. Even if every gun had the exact same stats and features, some would still be massively preferred over others due to the most minor of differences in the model and sound. I think they're fine as long as some players are using them and getting equal usage of every gun is an impossible balancing act. I won't buy the best weapons unless the team is losing or it is 9-9 and I know there's some other players who do the same. Someone who buys an M4 every round is never going to buy anything else unless it power creeps past the M4 to become the new meta.

You should be paying attention more to culling and rendering zones. Played half a day of Metro Awakening.

Good game, I'm having fun, it even runs well, very atmoshperic, but a bit too much stuff on levels is static and not grabbable.
Enemy AI respects shadows, sneaking, throwing objects, the try to look for you where they last heard you shoot, pretty good stuff. Normal difficulty might be a bit too easy.

Weird bug: for some reason it wants to lock into main monitor refresh rate VSYNC. I need to change refresh rate of my monitor before starting the game or during the gameplay for it to unlock from my display VSYNC and start going full 90 Hz on HMD, otherwise it just stays stuck at 60 or 75 FPS. Very weird.

Runs good enough to disable TAA (AA: OFF) and it looks sharp, due to supersampling. Sadly, to run at good resolution and high textures you'll have to have more than 12 gigs of VRAM, but even with textures on medium it looks good. Deferred rendering...

I use a desk mounted condenser mic routed through some analog audio hardware but it sounds really bad if I am too far from my desk or am facing the wrong way, so I want to figure out a good wireless audio solution that will still let me easily use my analog hardware...

Just got Meta Quest and Quest Link setup for my PC. Trying to get VRCFT setup. I'm lagging like hell in Quest Link, any suggestions? I have an RTX 3080 and an i9 processor so its not my hardware. Should I use Steam Link and configure VRCFT for that instead?

meta quest link is built into the quest OS on the headset side so it's tempting to use, but the desktop app is so horrible and dogshit

steamvr/link has weird foviated compression which looks shitty sometimes all the time
VD costs 30 dollars
but quest link drops frames and tracking sometimes and doesn't support hand tracking which is a major feature of the quest headsets, and sometimes fails to connect at all

If you are using a wire, make sure it's a USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 cable and that it's plugged into a USB 3.0/3.1 port.
If you are using wireless, make sure you are using "wifi 6" or "wifi 6e" or "802.11ax" and that you don't have tons of traffic or interference on your wireless radio

Please tell me that you didn't buy the 80 dollar zucc cable. 16+ foot long USB 3.1 cables aren't that easy to get and there are a lot of shady cables claiming to be something they aren't, but 80 dollars is scam.

Not sure if that's a GPU thing or something. I've had it drop bitrate when my old router couldn't keep up, but I didn't notice any frame drops. I might not have had it set way too high though.
