Devs will often just copy what they've seen before without even considering it could be changed and it started years ago when headset resolutions were much worse so you needed giant text or icons to read them properly. Canvas + pointer is also a standard object in every VR toolkit, if not the engine itself, so it further encourages its use. Looking at virtual tiny close-up screens like that triggers the vergence-accomodation conflict pretty badly. Even if the headset screens have enough resolution to render small text clearly (close but not quite there yet), the lenses in your eyes will try to refocus on the (virtually) close screen even though it's displayed on a screen that's optically 1.5m or so away, which makes it blurry and unpleasant.

I think big laser pointer screens will remain superior until we get varifocal/lightfield headsets, in two weeks or so.

AND technically since it's just a video stream in the end, yes we can send audio data from the main instance to the broadcasted instance.

I've had ideas on how to setup two streams before one for each side of a "wall" similar to berlin wall between VRC and CVR instances. So it's technically possible to make inter-instance and even game chats.

i haven't had to touch basic algebra in over a decade but if we divide the total horizontal fov a bit to exclude the outer regions (logical assumption) we can get a flat amount inside that "could" be 57 ppd; about 67 deg if thinking of it in this basic manner
might be thinking of it wrong so feel free to correct me
this is too simple to get an actual real number but the idea would be to come up with a curve function that matches the distortion profile that would account for the actual resolution spread covered by the deg in fov over a certain region
if we subtract from the overall horizontal resolution a bit but still look for how much we'd need to divide the total horizontal fov we could get a number like 45 deg instead (still a flat number rather than the curve it would actually be)
the actual ppd over the entire horizontal fov is likely a curve result of some sort due to lens shape etc.
maybe simply subtracting fov instead is a better idea to try and see what would still achieve 57 ppd over a smaller resolution just by guessing which would get us a number like 45 deg where it could be 57ppd over an area of 2560 pixels
idk man without the lenses on hand and some way to measure its all just guesswork

Blender's interface has always been designed exclusively for crab people and I have to relearn how to do even the smallest things every time I start the application. Even in 2000s I found Max and Maya easier than Blender, not that I could have afforded either of those back then. Wings3D is much easier also but it's very basic in terms of features and not the correct tool for character modeling these are all bullshit excuses. For an actual VR fun, you want this meme quest 2 at very least, maybe you can find an used one for cheap. To see what VR is about, ehhhhhhh. I feel you because I used to be an extreme poorfag as well and I still remember having tons of fun while setting up smartphone + DIY trackIR to play elite dangerous in VR, but today's VR games are mostly motion controlled, and if you have a smartphone, then you can probably sooner-or-later save up for an used quest. PSVR2 lenses are worse, it has an anti-SDE blur filter, and the subpixel resolution is lower because it's using pentile displays. Sharpness compared to Quest 3 is about what I'd expect there all things considered. Black levels and color look better on PSVR2 like I'd expect because of the OLED display too.

The guns in contractors feel and sound like shit and the inventory/chest rig management is also ass. UI is cluttered and illogically laid out. All of this is made worse by there being ping delay on basic interactions like grabbing things from your vest. I can sometimes go to weekend meets. I've been to one of the chill Jason instances. Soccer meets at benuldy's are unitychan fihgttttinnggggg, Halo instances are energetic parties. Ryder/Chorketown has a good vibe to them. Gizmo/Hiina instances have big chan energy. Each of these instances have a varying mix of /vrg/ and randos. the Ryder crew being the most anti-rando and Jason being the most lax about randos.

And that's fine. Variety is the spice of life. As long as there is a home for /vrg/ I don't mind some being rando instances. Again this is my opinion. I'm not mandating anything here.
