I mean, shit, if it's good for dancing, it's good for anything, i think. The reason I've asked is that I can see many benefits to slimes, they're smaller, possibly more comfortable, unaffected by environment unless magnetic fields around PC/electronics fuck it up bad, but no idea how that works. I have a good LH setup, but I still end up having a couple of my "favorite places", where tracking is spot-on, trackers sometimes fly off (probably radio interference), list goes on.

A perfect setup in my head would be slimes + LH for definite 6dof position + slime rotation for bones, but I've no idea if this kind of mix and match is allowed. I mean, my LH chest tracker is effectively only used for rotation anyway.

3070 is on the lower end of what works in VR but you can do it just fine.
Headset wise, index is still good but its main benefits are just in software support and ease of getting it working- it's a very plug and play headset with little fucking around needed. The audio is also great and people will complain about the screen but it's good enough.
The quest 3 is a better headset but for PCVR it's a tough beginner one since it requires fucking about to get it to work, plus like another $400 of shit, like comfort, batteries, wifi, etc, so people saying 'hurr index is expensive' never factor that in.
PS2VR might be okay but don't get one if you're on 50Hz electricity. More likely to have technical problems than the index too.
The FRAME is what I'd LIKE TO RECOMMEND but you'd have to wait a year. The steam frame will come out in mid 2027 and will be the new defacto best headset.

Headsets are unlikely to jump in price for a while simply because zuckerberg flooded the market with cheap headsets. NEW headsets are going to jump in price but the used market is so saturated with good headsets there's no market for any new headset that isn't the frame or some kind of $2000 mega headset.

Besides alyx and vrchat, what are you likely to do/play with your headset + what is your budget?
If you want to do things like simracing or pcvr competitive games (shooters), then avoid standalone and go for a wired headset. Standalone headsets can do pcvr, but suffer in these specific games due to latency and image compression. Low budget wired are PSVR2, pimax light; high budget are bigscreen beyond 2 or pimax super, eventually an htc vive pro 2. All these headsets have glaring flaws however.

If you plan to play standalone games, both quest 3 and pico 4 ultra are great choices (or used quest2/pico4 and quest3s if on tight budget); tho while pico have better performances, you'll need to pirate the quest exclusive games so it might be less practical.

If you plan to mostly do vrchat, go either for pico4 ultra, or snatch a used quest pro. The former have a cheap option to get legs/body tracking, the latter is the only viable headset with eye and face tracking at the moment (despite being discontinued). Streaming compression and latency doesn't matter as much in vrchat compared to simracing due to anime style and it being a chatroom

Hopefully it goes back in the oven but having a bit more manual experience with an umpire to keep track of the score with the pens in world and for everyone to honour the rules of the game is fun in its own way. Feels a bit more like playing actual badminton than a badminton game in VR. It sounded good when you hit and the physics felt fun and the rackets were intuitive to use, so it was fun for an hour. We just tried to keep up a rally while chatting.
Also I thought I recorded some footage of us playing but I messed up the camera settings enabling spout stream without me noticing so it's worthless.
