Has anyone played a lot of Skyrim VR? How does it hold up after a few hours? Is it worth the $60?

How poweful of a gpu do you need for running a PSVR on PC, even if you just use it for playing 3D sbs games on Dolphin? My PC is weak ass shit and I won't be updating it in a while.

I must have played over 50 hours, on PSVR though. In that version, outdoors settings look like a PS1 game, shit that's more than 5 meters away looks like a vomit and the DS4 control is far better than the Move mode, though it's less immersive.

The indoors look fucking good though. It plays actually well with few concessions made and the experience of wandering around is very satisfying.

At the end of the day it's still Skyrim. If you liked it standard 2D, you will like the VR version. If you hated it, you will hate the VR version.

one of the underspoken perks of Skyrim is that there's a ton of select sceneries in certain town/dungeon locations that are designed to look really good, the follower AIs even have sets of lines to speak specifically when reaching them, if you're playing VR for those moments it can be worth finding them.
The grind itself does get pretty slow though, strictly gameplay-wise the charm will wear off.

I made myself start my anime/vidya backlog back in May. It's been interesting watching the thread but lacking the context of the meetups since then.

Welshanon here, i'm trying to record some Pavlov VR footage as that was requested a few times and i'm having a bit of an issue;

Pavlov displays both the left and right eye channels seperately on the desktop, which is what I record and while annoying it is fixable, I could use the OBS plugin or simply crop the footage just to the right eye or hell pretend it's a stereoscopic video, no, the problem is that it displays and records my boundary walls, which inevitably I am going to be bumping into from time to time.

Of course I could go into my SteamVR/Oculus settings and disable the boundary wall but then i'm going to smash my TV/Controllers/Face/Teapot.

Anyone know of a workaround for this? It's probably a long-shot but I thought i'd ask before releasing a sub-par video.

Well alright then. I suppose I could add another layer onto this experiment.

Here's the idea: on top of what we have right now for the experiment, I will add a role to the Discord server called LFC, or Looking For Conversation. This role will be for people who have not been messaged much or at all. In other words, if the no role is for people who don't mind conversation, this role will be for people who are specifically looking for one. I could also do a LFCS, or Looking For Conversation Start role, to make it specific about who is looking to even just start a conversation with others.

So this should encourage more conversation going to those who haven't gotten any, as well as encourage more people to start conversations because it may have been more awkward to do so before.

I haven't done this before so I'd need to learn how to make those roles and let them be given to people automatically. If someone could help me with that, or has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Reposting my ultimate foot tracker meta. Find some of those old mismatched socks you have in a drawer somewhere, cut a few straps in the top with scissors, and slip the trackers in. It's surprisingly secure once you put your feet in, good enough for dancing. The socks might fall apart after a while, but who cares, you were going to throw them out anyway.

An update in cloth physics tech. I found out that even when you apply cloth to your skirt mesh, existing bone weights/vertex groups still apply, see webm related. As such, you can counter the skirt sag by poofing the skirt out with your armature in unity. More videos to follow.

So once you poof your skirt out a lot in unity, it'll fall back to a reasonable resting position. Video is two copies of my avatar, the original rest position shown. Once you hit play the skirt drops down to the "original" rest position and stays there.

So, it's nice and starchy now, but the cloth physics also makes it look all wrinkly in game. I haven't found a fix yet. Probably has something to do with the 7000 fucking vertices in this particular skirt mesh. The room trembles when I load in.

The cloth physics itself already works by skinning the mesh with the physics deformations from the CPU. If you apply the Cloth component to a regular mesh renderer it instantly turns it into a Skinned one.

Moreover, you still need the skirt to stay attached to your hips. You could Fixed Joint it to your Hip armature, but I'm not sure if running the physics engine is going to be any better than just skinning the mesh, plus it doesn't update perfectly on every frame, causing your skirt to be left behind your hips sometimes.

Not true at all. You can do performance tests yourself with the tool provided in the OP asset list. Obviously extra skinned meshes when you don't need it is bad, but it's the same effect as having an additional drawcall on the same skinned mesh. A skinned mesh drawcall is still a skinned mesh drawcall. Think of them as containers. They don't hurt vrchat that badly if used correctly

I guess to clarify, each mesh is still its own GameObject with a Skinned Mesh Renderer Component and a Mesh Filter, they just happen to be using the same Armature. Works On My Machine™. There are only a few legitimate uses to multiple meshes of course, with cloth physics being one. The other is to make first person hair possible, which requires an extra mesh that's fix-jointed to the head bone.

i dunno tupper explains it here sorta but the gist is skinned mesh renderers are really poor performance wise on the CPU they're not the same as a simple mesh renderer just the code that runs on the single thread to update a skinned mesh renderer isn't great and i'd assume because it's a part of the players IK armature it's touched by the IK code so it's even worse
i think a blank unity scene will chug with a 100 skinned mesh renderers going on any hardware

In the unity player settings there's experimental support for GPU skinning in DX11, which would improve skinned mesh renderers a lot if it works. Can't enable it for the vrchat runtime though. At least not without client modification. Somebody should try it.

Could work, just make sure you have Bone 2 as the root for each and add a dummy at the end of the chain. That's what I'd do for something like cleavage visible under a chest piece.
Adding an unweighted dummy bone to the end of the chain helps with the last bone's movement from what I've seen. Just haven't updated that little shitpost/tutorial picture

It's a bit of a prototype/proof of concept right now, didn't prepare a script or anything beforehand so it's entirely off the top of my head and I really fluffed up some of the pauses but I think with a little polishing it could work. Maybe i'll make a better and longer one some time. That picture is of the rift headset and controllers, but that anon also bought the htc trackers plus basestations for Full Body Tracking (FBT) in vrchat. You can actually use them together now and it works pretty well, way better than kinect for sure. If you have the cash, it's definitely the master race due to the far superior controllers, and IMO slightly better headset.

My recommendation to new anons is that if you want to get in VR today, just get the rift, preferably at $350 because it's on sale pretty often. Then you can have a superior experience in non-VRC VR games, and if you end up playing enough vrchat to be worth it, save up and order the pucks and base stations later. However, if you know in your heart of hearts that you need to dance and lay down as an anime girl in VRC as soon as possible, go with the vive.

Vive is $500 for HMD + basestations + controllers, then an extra $300 for 3 trackers = $800. More outside the US.
Rift is $400 for HMD + 2 sensors + controllers, then $270 for two basesations + $300 for trackers = $970, or $170 more. You also probably want a 3rd rift sensor for another $50, but if you get the rift on sale at $350 it's a wash.

I think it was still totally worth it but I spend hours every night in VRChat. YMMV

If you use the new 0.6a alpha of the space calibrator the dev posted in >>227340665 in the #dev channel, it's more reliable. I haven't had to recalibrate the last few sessions. You have to run it as administrator though because the dev fucked up the permissions. I wish he'd just release the source already.

From the people I've talked to that have used both, the HTC controllers are vastly shit compared to the touch controllers. Ergonomically, and quality-wise. Touchpad problems everywhere, and RMAs take months for HTC to get back to you. You can also hot-swap the AA batteries in touch controllers wheras if you forget to charge the vive wands, you're out an hour of playtime for them to charge.

If we're lucky, knuckles will be out this holiday season, but it's fucking valve, so probably more likely will be Q1 or Q2 2019, or even later.
