unfortunately the talks weren't recorded. I guess they want you to pay the $1000 conference admission. it was a pretty general introductory talk about how vr dating works, who's doing it & why, and where we're headed

some takeaways from my talk and from conversations I had with others in the dating industry:
(1) hiding behind an avatar and a pseudonym in vr builds confidence and helps introverts (33-50% of americans... more in asia & the nordics) open up. this makes certain people a lot more successful with dating in vr
(2) vr makes long distance relationships stronger. the international dating market (mail order brides etc) is bigger than all the rest of the online dating industry and these weird rich dudes are happy to buy pricey vr equipment to better connect with their overseas lovers
(3) vr dates are convenient (don't have to get ready to go out, drive to the venue, and pay for dinner) so you can go on more dates. when a first date isn't a big time/financial commitment and isn't a safety risk, you can get to know a wider variety of potentials properly virtual-face-to-virtual-face rather than vetting people based on superficial profiles and pickup lines. and once you've found someone, date night not being a big time/financial commitment means busy people can spend more time with their partners and maintain a strong relationship. and the variety & number of unique vr worlds to explore means more exciting dates than the same old dinner/movie dates
(4) high-end vr capable of immersive dating is prohibitively expensive for most people. when the quest launches and the next vrchat launches on the quest, everything changes. then vr dating will probably follow the same pattern that online dating did: some years of stigma, then the network of couples that met in vr grows and the concept becomes normal to friends of those couples, until eventually everyone is doing it

get aggressive, inject yourself into groups. You may get deflected a bunch, but eventually you'll find a group that sticks. tips from an autist who actually finds socialization difficult:
1. Confront people that find themselves alone and on the outskirts, they will remember and appreciate that, and they be more comfortable being with you.

2. People like it more when you talk about them, less so when you talk about yourself.

3. Eye contact is a good excuse to confront someone. Look out for it.

4. Eventually you should get good at identifying the conversations you will never be able to pierce and the people that just have too different/fucked personalities to be likable. Avoid them and avoid wasting time.

5. Know the topics that you like talking about. (ex. Politics, Meta Discussion, blender/unity shit,etc.) Keep them on your mind and jump at any opportunity to discuss them, anyone else who seems just as invested as you is likely to be a good friend.

6. vrg spends a lot of time in front of mirrors, you can use this time to practice good body language. It doesn't matter as much as it does it real life, but it does matter. I fidget a lot for example so I channel my fidgeting into pleasant looking head and arm movements when idly standing around.

7. when you see someone else do something that you like, copy it.

8. when people don't want you near them, they will almost always make it explicit, even the nicer ones. Don't back down or be afraid of an "awkward" engagement.

9. Bored people are boring. Personally I get a kick out of trying to goad them.

There are some other things I had to teach myself, but just know that practically all of the big deals are naturally good at psychological manipulation, which is more or less how you "win" a social game.

The chaperone thing which displays the layout of your play space is fucked for me, its about 2 meters off to the right and behind me. I can enable the playspace with advanced steamVR, but that only shows a box on the floor and doesn't have the walls meaning I am smashing into stuff when I play.

I've never really been part of a community before, let alone one that has made me feel so loved and brought together so many amazing people. Seeing all this history and the amount of people brought to tears seeing it all together has blown me away. A small touch of pride knowing I've made an impact on the community that others submitted something I made or was in to be immortalised in this place too. This picture in particular really hit me because every other year I've had a family christmas and wandered off to watch everyone else and just sit alone. But here a handful of people came to join me just to be with me and on top of it all someone submitted it as their favourite moment from the whole of december. They probably had no idea how much that moment meant to me but I'm glad it meant a lot to them too.
I love all of you, even the shitposters, because it is us all together that makes /vrg/ what it is. Happy anniversary and here's to many more.

Figured out a really good setup for leather-like or canvas cloth physics.
Profiler is insanely low and this seems very high performance on about 800 verts.
I changed the sample settings to match the framerate of common headsets.

This test uses almost double the cloth verts than vrcsdk wants but at the same time uses next to NOTHING compared to dynamic bone.
Imagine 800 dynamic bone transforms with collision, and how it would murder the cpu then compare to this video.
VRC's setup for cloth needs adjustment since unity 2017, the avatar profiler doesn't reflect reality.
You can pause at the end to see the cloth parameter setup to get this look.

Let's say you've already merged your model's meshes and materials.
if you tab into edit mode then select a vert, you can use the menu "select" and select by similar trait without separating again to do things like make new mesh groups. You can also use select "linked" to grab things like accessories to make new blendshapes.

Part of that is that I haven't done the Vive mic mod so it picks up more due to the lack of a pop filter which makes breathing sound loud and distorted.
However, it does wear you out quicker than you'd think, if you don't punch hard and fast your punches don't connect. I'd compare it to the autismo maps on beatsaber in intensity. I was fairly sweaty by the end.
