I spent 5 seconds typing a few words into duckduckgo and looking at the first page of results, and this revealed the reality of lighthouse accuracy. Back in 2018, NASA published a paper about precision and accuracy with Vive trackers: https://ti.arc.nasa.gov/publications/61557/download/

The tl;dr: For static objects they're accurate within half a millimeter, and for dynamically moving objects, this happens:

In other words, the issue is about Valve doing movement smoothing using IMUs instead of sticking to lighthouse readings because they don't want users to see jitter.

The researchers found that directly reading lighthouse data kept it highly accurate while moving, but required custom software. Also, reflections must be prevented and the only other tracking systems they considered worth discussing were far outside the consumer price range.

LH 1.0 already had measurably more jitter than Oculus Rift's tracking. If there were any more, it would be pretty bad. And I would say this all makes sense from another perspective as well: the entire reason we use an IMU is to get more frequent and recent readings. Both LH and the Rift's Constellation cameras spit out readings at 60 Hz (however in a 2 LH base station setup, each base stations runs at 30 Hz so that it combines to 60). 60 Hz is not enough for a low latency feeling of motion tracking. So we really need the IMUs. NASA may have different needs and requirements for a tracking system they're looking to use, so they may not need that high of a tracking rate, and may prioritize pure accuracy more.

I don't think it's necessarily something a better controls engineer could've done better, neither do I think it'd be necessary as jitter is not really problematic on the Vive. It probably would be problematic if there were more, but at this point it's fine.

So yeah, in general, jitter is good enough on both systems so as to be not noticeable in most scenarios. The actual problem isn't jitter but that LH has what seems to be a consistent offset depending on distance/angle to a base station, making it inaccurate depending on the way you're facing, and which results in a noticeable drift sometimes when you're turning, which may be more or less on different devices due to manufacturing differences, and which may be more or less noticeable depending on the person. This effect may be solved over time with a software/firmware patch.

Thanks. Currently weakpoints are set to x3 damage and only appear one at a time after a flinch. Hitting weakpoints get the next set of weakpoints to appear and extends the time the enemy is staggered, with the 3rd weakpoint staggering the enemy into the ground allowing for free shots.

Been thinking real hard how to make each enemy unique to fight.

Wolves are basic enemies that does minor damage 10 but is almost guaranteed to hit you when you get close to its mouth compared to the tohers that have windup animation, wolves just damage you out right. So they are best to deal with using ranged weapons as they have low hp as well.

The goblins are fast and agile but flinch really easily at 60% chance to flinch per hit. So if you jsut swipe and swing real hard at them they will be almost perma stun-locked. So easy to deal with one on one. But the problem with goblins arises when they spawn in packs. You cannot stagger everyone so the fast animation 20 damage each swing dagger becomes really deadly really fast in large groups of goblins. Goblins are moderately tanky so swipe and attack fast at them

Skeletons are high damage 30 per hit high HP behemoths but they have a 10% chance per hit to get flinched that generates a weakpoint for comboing. They can also be parried if you hit their weapons with your weapon at the correct timing, making them flinch but no weakpoint is generated during a parry.

If you guys have any other ideas on making unique enemies I am all up on hearing it.

Currently I am trying to fix the Bow Goblin and making it so that if you are within a certain close distance to the bow goblin it cannot shoot a bow and arrow na djust reverts to a dagger.

Goblin mages are kill on site. If you notice there is a mage the ebst way to deal with them is dash as fast as possible tot hem and do 5 quick strikes as an alive goblin mage will absolutely wreck everyone with aoe magic attacks. They're really low hp.

I'm the guy who made the post about spinning up a vps and downloading all the non-passworded assets and putting them in a textfile with magnet links and a list of public trackers for people to add aswell, my reasoning in doing this is that the assets are then at the will of the entire community to keep a program open to seed. My idea is that if there are new assets to add, there should be a format for someone to post a directdl/magent link to their torrent as well as a brief description in the thread for the OP to skim for to add to the list (reposing it anew obv). The only problem is that this relies on the OP to actually at least ctrl+f the last thread. I'm up for brainstorming a proper format, but if people really don't care or will appreciate my effort in creating/starting such a thing I won't bother. I had planned to start today with the whole thing.

Probably because a single artist designs their model as a whole piece so they can create a more efficient UV map than a character designer that allows for many different combinations can achieve. As you can see, 512^2 looks worse than 1024^2. If I used this texture, I would mirror some of the islands onto each other, but there's no way you can pack a model made out of more than four 1k textures onto a 2k atlas without introducing pixellation. If you drank the koolaid that Tupper and many like him spew about "muh draw calls" then you might have been misled into thinking that there is this golden rule of "fewer draw calls is always better", but this is simply false as a point of fact. Most game designers who work in character art as professionals would use several 1k or 2k textures uv mapped to specific parts of a model based on where you need more detail and where you don't. This is why I suggested chopping up your atlas, and possibly re-using some parts of the original textures (assuming your atlas was resized or compressed), since you don't need an even distribution of pixel density and detail in every location on the surface of the mesh. This is also why the original atlasing algorithm that came with the old cats blender plugin was garbo, because it had no way of differentiating which "islands" should be bigger (such as the face) or smaller (such as the bottoms of the feet). If you separated out your materials a bit, keeping it at or below 10 materials if you can, you could have a 1k-2k texture on materials assigned to important features of your model, and smaller ones for the less important features. I believe the new material combiner component of the cats blender plugin has this functionality built into it now as well, but I don't use cats for much so I'm not sure. I just do my uvs and textures myself.

Desktop applications still average around 10 for character models, but far less for everything else. Desktop FPS games for example, most characters are between 5-10, you don't usually see less than 5 unless it's just a background NPC, or props and environmental objects, which usually use 1-3 and are often GPU instanced.

Even the differences between eyebrows and eyelashes couldn't really be done without a different materials if we're talking photorealism.

Up in the OP there should be the pastebin for Rift + Trackers, simply follow along the steps to get the OpenVR Space Calibrator, install it, then follow the steps there.
Basically take your hip tracker, hold it on top of your left controller, press the start calibration button, then move your hand in a figure 8 slowly so that it gets a good understanding of where your tracker is.
At that point both playspaces should be calibrated together. It's not the most stable thing, the Oculus playspace and jump around a bit when you sit down and such, but otherwise it's functional.

They are posting IN /vrg/, and reading posts other people made IN /vrg/. There is your first and biggest mistake. Your discord exists as a place for you to have your "community". the VR General is neutral ground, where there is no community, only content. By demanding that there is some kind of "group" here representing this thread, you are trying to force politics into a general discussion that has nothing to do with anyone involved in it. And that is the very point of the thread, which you continue to rail against with every post you make dragging discord into it, or making it focused on the people who play VRChat and also post here. You think the thread would die if you all simply got thanos snapped out of existence, but if that's truly the case, then maybe it should. Evolved out of apes? Are you so fucking brainlet you think VR is anything but VRC right now? VR is limited to normies with the quest, and singleplayer games. It doesn't have much outside of it. /vrg/ has been a good community the whole way through, VR requires active physically adjusted players, VRC delivers.

VR's model was flawed before, but by adding a hub to its gameplay, it allows players to collect, and branch out into other games. It establishes the playerbase needed to play shitty VR games and go back. /vrg/ still has that situation, even the few anti-discorders in the corner, use their VRC friends or connections to get anons in their games.

We had a split to decide how many wanted to be away from VRC or split it off. Just like this discussion, it didn't live, and died off every time it was attempted due to lack of posters. Anons are comfortable being VR with VRC, and it has been "both ways" this whole time for almost 2 years. Nobody wants what you propose, and it has been proven with hard, solid ass facts, you can't samefag your way out of those.

The VRC, or community element you want to remove, is the only active part of /vrg/ that plays VR games. Leave, because if you don't like that, this isn't your kind of thread, stop trying to force it to be "what I want", let it be what everyone wants it to be.
