Jesus fuck did that Candyland Zombies level in pavlov bother my bottom last night. The zombies barely register hits when they strafe you thanks to them being a reskin of the excellent Davevillz Official Zombies(tm) and not the workshop mod zombies, so you basically have to wait for them to line up before you waste your limited (!) ammo on them. Additionally, the maps is full of invisible walls that only barely follow the "lanes" of the candyland board. i have a small VR project in unity that has a virtual body that responds to the user's movement, when you look around or lean in a direction the torso follows. I want to have the body's hands stay in a fixed place at certain points but for the torso movement to still work as the player looks around, and the problem is the hand will move since it's attached to the a joint chain starting from the spine joint that the movement script is applied to. i have peripheral knowledge of FK and IK and I'm not sure which, if either, I should use to address this, or how. any suggestions?

I get that you want it to look better, but you're effectively taking the player's hand away for a few seconds. You're also probably going to be restricting their movement during that animation, since I'm assuming it breaks if the rest of the body moves too far.
You could try hiding the body completely and just playing the animation with a different body if you absolutely have to do that though. If the player isn't able to move, that might work.

Clear out as much space as you can near your computer and even move stuff around if you need to so you've got the largest playspace possible. Make sure it's well lit to help with Rift S tracking.
You might get some motion sickness at first, but as long as you take breaks when you start feeling sick, you'll get used to it pretty quickly. I probably wouldn't start with games that use smooth movement right away, but that's up to you.
I'd go ahead and keep an eye out for sales on stuff you're interested in too so you have some games to play when the headset gets in.

UVPackMaster Pro is an add-on for automatically pack UV's, it's paid for but works really well. Else you can use Blenders packing tool, but it's not as good.

I think the best method for making an atlas for your model is to create a new canvas in Photoshop or krita or gimp and make a collage of all your square textures in a grid, and then in blender assign all your materials to a new material using the atlas you made and use the UV editor to move around and scale each UV until they're all in the right place.

as a lightning round question, can openmw, oblivion, or either of the mid 2000's fallout games be played well in vr?

Skyrim VR is a plugin for the special edition, so (almost) all mods that work for the special edition work there.
Fallout 4 nexus has a VR section for mods, so I assume it's the same case there, but it was so irredeemably shit that I've never bothered trying.
All of the Bethesda VR games are objectively bad ports. You can still have some fun in Skyrim with bows/magic, but melee combat is just waggling mapped to clicking your mouse.

I'd recommend you play Alyx first to get your legs, then maybe branch out to Asgard's Wrath or Stormlands for the open world experiences you want.

Modded Skyrim VR is a big difference from the base game. The VR port is bad and modders can only do so much but what they have done is impressive; For example there will be no water reflections because they were hardcoded off in the engine and the base game just has floating hands. A modder somehow added a full IK body to the player and there a water mods to create a similar effect to sun reflections. Mods to make archery require grabbing from a shoulder quiver instead of spawning right on the bow. Mods to allow you to place weapons on your virtual body and draw with an empty hand. There are even mods for throwing weapons but unfortunately no mods can fix the shitty melee system.

As the other anon said, it's mostly Skyrim SE so SE mods work or will have a VR version, even some old Skyrim mods work if they are texture replacers. Graphics mods are mostly the same as SE and you'll want them because the game is hideous. Skyrim is known for it's dated LOD textures and it really shows in the VR version unless you replace them.

The discord tags are for ease of contact when a map we make goes public and as a group project credit must be given where credit is due. A solo map maker already has credit due to the VRchat system placing their name as the map creator, but a group project has multiple people working on it. Hmmm do you think we should just remove the point of contact all together? Should be an easy fix going forward if it bothers some people this much.

Depends on the avatar complexity. Honestly complete scratch work avatars take so much time that'd at the prices people charge you'd have to really know your craft to make it. Unless I'm starting from a base or something I can easily put in a week or two of my free time into making a crappy one. That works out to a pretty crappy hourly rate for customs, maybe the profit would be better net for selling props or something that multiple people buy. Not sure the breakdown.
That said if you're just piecing together work other people have done and slapping some glowing emission tattoos on it and charging those rates then yeah you'd turn mad profit for what would at worst be a couple hours of work.

FBT works best if your avatar's proportions match your own real life ones. Search for Kung's fbt tutorial on youtube for a really good tutorial on all the fixes you (might) need to do. Something in there he says to do is to increase (or decrease) your irl player height setting before binding in which will make everything in the world smaller (or larger). It might help making things fit a bit better. Avatar arm length also does some weird thing with scale too so really long arms can trick the game into thinking it's a really big avatar and vice versa.

Fresh Rift S owner. My Rift S just completely cuts off sound sometimes, where others can't hear me anymore and I can't hear them either. I tried a lot of shit already from disabling sound devices, to switching USB slot, complete system and hardware driver update and so one but nothing really worked. Is this some common problem or should I send the device back in asap. So far I've only encountered this happening when playing VR Chat.

This is an issue with vrchat, I have the same. Not much you can do but try restarting vrc, steamvr, and then the oculus vr service in that order to troubleshoot.
