I am concerned about some false advertising in the description of https://youtu.be/w0eRkhR1z6A. If you look at Steam:

while it has the VR tag, there's no mention of VR anywhere else like a VR title would usually have on Steam. I am a bit paranoid about this because of what EA did to us with the Battlefront PSVR exclusive bullshit. My bet is that the VR will be exclusive to PSVR again so go fuck yourself EA.

I finally caved in recently and bought forest VR, it's now my 290th game on steam. Yet to try it out properly because I worked up a bit of a sweat within like 40-50min, but it seems very interesting. Controlls have me a bit confused and dizzy though, seems like I'll need to get use to them. Will probably play more after my pizza lunch.

I would say not, Go to the Aim map and learn how to aim etc, maybe ask someone from the thread to teach you.
Then you just play DM/TDM until you get better. You can also go Against BOT's to get the aim down, then go into TDM/DM, lobbies are all over the place with skills etc.

I would say if you are EU, play NA pubs, and EU pubs if you are NA. While the higher ping makes reloading more annoying, you will not get high ping players abusing the netcode against you.
When you have played for a bit, you can see the advantage of high ping players.

Play it yourself and see. The visuals and haptics for the blocks aren't the same, nor does moon rider support any of the fancy extended maps with cool wall art. I don't think the scoring system is the same either. The mods for beat and usually update for new versions in hours, so I haven't been bothered by the updates anyway.

Is there a way I can change the shape of a dynamic bone collider? My hand is enormous and I have to make the orb so far from my actual hand in order to make it cover everything. I can poke people fine but putting my palms on something is really messed up.

Anyone know a foolproof method of doing animated 2d eyes/mouth? I figure shape keying a bunch of planes in Blender of various face/eye states would work, with flipping them a millimeter in front of an otherwise blank face. It works perfectly fine in Blender, but VRchat it's a little fucky since it's trying to interpolate between the 0->1 state of the shape key instead of being instant.

Only doing this because I got a low-poly model I'm doing, and it seemed appropriate to give the illusion of an animated texture for a face instead of modeling it all in.

I occasionally use my oculus quest with virtual desktop over wifi over my vive for games like pavlov, because its preferable over using vive wands. My latency is around 30ms, and most of it comes from the video encoding/decoding, and not so much network. I do have a pretty beefy router though. Been playing pavlov on gem server wirelessly with the quest for the past month or so. I'm not the best player but its good enough for me, but different people have different tolerances to input latency so take my experience with a grain of salt. I doubt you'd see much differences in latency from adhoc vs router, as long as it can handle the bandwidth depending on your settings, which can be anywhere from 24mbps to 90mbps. I also prefer using virtual desktop wireless over oculus link due to performance issues I get with link, inconsistencies in trigger input not being detected, and being able to freely turn and move about without worrying about cables.

I visited an XR developer meetup in AltspaceVR and I think events on that platform might be more fruitful for meeting a bit older crowds. Everybody is a boring male, female or robot avatar so no coomers allowed either.

Agenda was:
-Zoan: Producing a virtual live concert experience with Unreal Engine.
-Waseda University: Making use of avatars and embodiment in VR
-Grape People: When, and how, will meetings move into VR? Benefits and blockers.

The virtual live concert was kind of lame browser or mobile thing with no VR but they had a live crowd of thousands with zero expectation of users having any clue on VR. Was kind of cool that corporations are exploring this.

Avatars and embodiment was about how to make things more immersive. Apparently 1-to-1 body tracking is more important than looks for people to feel connected to their virtual bodies. Also proteus effect israel.

VR meetings is just corporate VRChat. They complained that the best headset for this is owned by Facebook. They also thought that facebook will take over this space. Also who the fuck names their company "Grape People"? All I could think of was the Grape bit from Whitest Kids You Know.

I asked the avatars and embodiment dude about phantom touch and it's apparently called "pseudo haptic illusion".

Had to really hold back to hide my power level. One of the organizers wanted to test out features and asked if it was ok to block me to try it out. He couldn't unblock me for some reason so I just acted obnoxious and talked with people ignoring his unseen presence basically blocking him out of conversation.

Yeah I've been saying this for a long time. Ever since I tried a DK1 with Kinect point cloud rendering of my body, it has been so obviously clear to me that full body reconstruction in VR is a huge boost to the feeling of presence. It was like the first time I tried VR again.

Modern FBT with anime models that roughly match your proportions is a good but relatively small boost. Full reconstruction of the geometry of your body, including your clothing, is a paradigm shift in immersion. It's not just the feeling of having a body that is affected. The feeling of other things in VR being real is significantly enhanced. It makes sense, since our brain makes sense of the world in a holistic manner.

It is unfortunate that that implies we'll never feel as strongly immersed within bodies that are not our own, or wearing clothing that does not match the virtual clothing. Still, VR's other components will get better, and having roughly matched proportions is still a nice boost to the feeling of presence even if not huge.

You can only wave around your floaty hands and move your head. It doesn't have visimes but just flapping texture as a mouth that somewhat reacts to how loud you speak. Also the spatial audio is just a 2D plane and there are no speech bubble indicators on people. Your avatar's body is just a rigid block that floats up and down depending on how high your head is so sitting is just floating into the floor or furniture.

They aren't wrong about another platform taking over at some point. Altspace is kind of garbage but workable for this sort of mass event stuff I guess. FB would be smart to go after this segment. another question, my PC Specs are Ryzen 2700x and GTX 1070ti. Will I be able to play at full resolution at 90/120/144 Hz for most games? I find my build struggles to maintain 120 Hz on most modern games at 1440p.

Since the 24 Hours of Le Mans was held virtually last weekend, we'll be trying a 24 Minutes of Le Mans race in Assetto Corsa tomorrow night. Qualifying will start around 8PM EDT, the race should start about 30 minutes later. Depending on how things go, we may end up running a second race afterwards or just mess around on some other tracks.
Make sure you've got the Sol mod installed so the night stuff works, I'm not sure you'll even be able to join without it. Sol and the track mod are both in the Mega link below, and I put a link to the official installation instructions too.
