The 500 something members of discord is randoes and lurkers. Look up the specs for yourself. Q2 is surprisingly good considering the price difference but do keep in mind that you will probably end up wanting to buy a proper strap and a cable or battery so add that to the cost.

You need a FB account so if you don't have one make it before you order to make sure you aren't locked out. If you want to use link then you need the Oculus app on your computer. after singing into the account once you don't need to interface with FB at all. As for what data they are getting from you I honestly have no idea but I also don't particularly care, they always make the EULAs vague enough that you will never really know.

I hate that shit. I’ve got my avatar down to less than 120 bones and 130k polys. It’d be better but it’s fairly complex considering it’s toggles and overall quality it’s pretty optimized.
My non /vrg/ friend just asked me for help uploading an avatar. It had about 50 materials and 300k polys and its weight painting was horrible the head bone was massive angled down through the body, they paid some random 35 dollars for it and it was missing a bunch of textures. Now what? How do I merge those into one model and then get it into unity? And how the fuck do I do anything regards textures?

It's poor because of dynamic bones, which thankfully can be filtered without disabling the entire avatar by people who use performance blocking. Remove all of the dynamic bone components and redo them yourself. Booths tend to be pretty bad about having the components on the same thing so you might have to scan through the entire armature to find all of the components.

think of each thing that should have dynamic bones, common cases are:
hair
breasts
ears
tail

each one of things should only be a single dynamic bone component, theres no need for 26. The best way to do this is to set a shared parent as the root of the dynamic bone component and then just use exclusions to remove all other children of that parent that you don't want on the script.
For example, say you want wiggly cat ears and hair: because all of the hair bones and ear bones are children of the head bone, you but both components on the head bone and the exclude the eye bones and all of the hair bones for the ear script; and exclude the ear bones and eye bones for the hair script.

I hope that makes sense.

/vrg/ friends, I suck a model making and such but have an nsfw avatar a friend set me up with a while ago. It's the primary one I use and I'm wanting to start making edits to it, starting with a simple sfw version. there's no fancy unity magic that exists that allows mesh editing correct? my blender knowledge is limited and skills are ass but what's the best way I can import an fbx? the way I know how to currently results in me having to manually re-apply a bunch of textures and such that I feel too lazy to do, but maybe that's just the life of model making. time and effort..

export it again as fbx
replace the fbx in the unity assets with the exported one (must be the same name)

dynamic bones is THE WORST way of doing skirts, just remove the skirt script and don't bother. That explains all of the collisions too. Just getting rid of the skirt script will reduce by the number of transforms by a significant degree as well it looks like.

people can filter dynamic bones so I wouldnt worry about it. everything else is fine. 12 materials is a little high depending how big they are. if your avatar is like 50+MB its probably your textures on your materials. you can click those textures in unity and compress them as needed. poor performance is pretty standard, and if you really want you can just copy your avatar, remove the dynamic bones components and youll have a medium avatar for dances etc.
