For the same reason you can't play Gran Turismo 7 on PC. It's a completely different operating system and emulators don't exist. Revive is for playing Windows games. Lies Beneath for instance is a windows game. You get an exe that is made to run on Windows 10. All Revive does is pass through the VR runtime for Oculus to SteamVR.

The touchpad can be used for touchpad functions along with giving you 4 or 5 buttons if you want. Tracking isn't great, but the extra buttons are real handy. Two buttons only is lame. At least Index controllers can be set to use their touchpads as extra buttons.

You should come so you can learn how to be useful!

VTOL used to frustrate me to an insane degree before dodging missiles *clicked*. I could hardly get through a mission before tossing my headset off.

You've got to take things slow and use terrain/LOS to the maximum advantage, since those have a 100% chance of breaking a lock. Notching (flying perpendicular to a radar) is extremely effective at range (10 miles or so) and with terrain clutter behind you, and gets even better when you drop chaff.

This mission has a ton of skyscrapers that are perfect for that breaking LOS, so try it out please!

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club season 4!
Race 19.

19:00 UTC, Monday 7th of March!

Bros, I've found some strip of unfinished highway in Serbia, time to grab our shitboxes and race!

1 hour practice, 15 minute qualifiers, 8 lap race.

After that we'll go to a relaxing scenic drive in Black Cat County.

Download mods here:
https://mega.nz/folder/m24gmKga#vpRgTGOuq-f64OWgtGRAwQ

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html and a mod installer (just drag and drop zip files from mega).

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738.
You don't have to download the client, you can use webclient at https://voice.vrg.party/?address=voice.vrg.party/demo&port=443
Push to talk works globally only using desktop client, desktop client is more configurable, highly recomend to get it, no need for any accounts, just join server and talk

Just wondering: People always say that the Quest 2 is pretty much the best thing to get right now. On Ebay they go as low as 350€. But something like the HTC Vive Pro 1 (Full Kit) goes for at least 550€+. Why is that? I just bought a cheap Rift CV1 to check out VR, so I genuinely wonder.

best budget setup imho is a vive headset (any generation) if you can find one cheap with index controllers if you ever intend to get fbt, otherwise quest with a link cable is nigh unbeatable

Cable management didn't used to bother my much, but I find it really problematic in game where I want to turn around quickly. In PopOne I often will opt to just shoot while twisting my entire body and keeping my feet in place for fear of ripping my cord out. Is there a cable management alternative from the normal "fuck up an entire room in your house to forever be ugly as shit with cord running along the ceiling Method?

Once I move I might have a game/work out room but until then cable's kinda suck.

I don't mind when they're so easy, just wish it was less clunky. Jank aside the whole ship part of the campaign was better than I expected. I thought the crew would have been completely unbearable but they're not that bad.
https://streamable.com/9ca76p

The campaign certainly prepares you for the multiplayer with the amount of time you spend just moving from A to B. I like that they've tried to set up some story set-pieces but from what I've played so far there's not enough combat. The enemy grinders are pretty dangerous but some small filler enemies like tanks or drones are badly needed.

I can press buttons on an ergonomic controller and control fingers! Such real life! I can pick up objects and stab waves of enemies that come up to me, holy crap! This is WAAAYYYY better than like, any non-vr game. That's why the market share is so high, why the vr devices are so affordable, why the games are such high quality and well-made, and why literally every person just loves vr and thinks everyone should get it! It sucks bro. Sorry you like it, but it's trash, and we arent anywhere close to it being an experience worth paying for. That being said, I know people who jave spent thousands on mobile games, so maybe you are lucky and there are in fact enough idiots out there willing to blow money on this garbage lol

Vox campaign is pretty soulful. Decent voice acting and writing made up for the uncanny puppets.

It took me just over 7 hours; A little too much of that was spent listening to dialogue or moving across the map in a slow grinder but it picks up in the later missions. Unfortunately there was no big battle mission that captures the chaotic feeling of a 16 player multiplayer lobby but maybe now that they've done the groundwork for missions they can work on proper co-op missions to fill that void.

Are there any statistics on the age of range for VR users? I have an oculus and I noticed a lot of older people and non game players on my faceberg friends list have it. A lot of people, even younger people, seem to have issues utilizing both stick movement and IRL movement when playing more detailed games, but there seems to be a surprising variety of people buying into the novelty of VR. Not necessarily a good thing thing though, I don't want to see VR doomed to casual/social shit and "experiences" dominating the market.

The valheim VR devs have a patch that makes the menus work in the latest update, but as usual it's a "dude trust me lmao" dll on discord instead of on github or nexus. such is life.

I mirrored the working patch to https://litter.catbox.moe/5ugepl.dll (dude trust me lmao), if you don't want to fish it out from https://discord.com/channels/747967102895390741/817781298483429418/948303616324808705 yourself.

Once your have that installed, the usual saturday NA Valheim multiplayer server is up again and updated to the latest patch, if you'd like to play some VR survival crafting with us

also consider getting a silicone and leather head gasket so that your normal gasket doesn't have to be cleaned, which tends to break the glue holding the fabric to the plastic gasket

mm, we tried betrayal at one point and it was indeed painful. Unfortunately those types of games with a lot of reading and setup and complexity are the games I like. We need next gen of better resolution VR for reading text and finger tracking for fine manipulation of cards and pieces before that's feasible I guess.

I actually suggested to level the land around the boss summoning stone on the swamp before so we have a very clear area without any swamp water ergo no leech or slime.

But ehhhhhhhh, everyone else thought that was too much work. They're correct but it's like much more epic to be super prepared and not die even once if we as you say "engineer" the boss fight area to our advantage.

Finally got around to trying bean stalker. It's some good ludo. Climbing is satisfying mechanically in VR and it sidesteps the disappointment of primarily stick locomotion in other games. The VR adaptations to inventory stacks and slots and crafting is also well done. Would definitely like to try the coop multiplayer at some point.

Some initial complaints though (that maybe are solved by stuff after the literal first level of the tree): the extraction point required me to climb like 50 meters back down the main stalk, which is annoying compared to climbing up. Made me wish for some sort of abseiling system. Generally having some sort of way to like clip in to bolts instead of free climbing would be nice too so you could hang around and if you fall, you're not dead but just hanging. Arguably removes some of the danger, but since you can already just stand on horizontal parts of the stalk, and it'd be less ambiguous where it's safe to stand vs clipping in.

Also while minor it reminds me how much more satisfying alyx grabby gloves are compared to the force grab in beanstalker and boneworks for picking up stuff, Functionally the same of course, but aiming a laser is boring.
Anonymous No.375170017
>>375167914
The first thing you should craft in that game IMO is the basic grappling hook. It has no limit on how much you can use it. Later in the desert biome you can get the materials to make the zipline grappling hook which allows you to zip back and forth and anywhere between the line which you make. I imagine that it'll be good for co-op when you want to shuttle everyone around to a certain flying island or whatever. I think that I have to agree with everything in that regard. I like how the game does have normal smooth locomotion, jumping, and sprinting on top of the climbing and ziplining mechanics which make up most of what you are doing.

As interesting as the idea of a physical body is in boneworks, it's mostly just annoying. It's really evident when you go from boneworks to a game like PopOne and you feel so unencumbered. You go back to boneworks and it's feels less like you have a physical body and more like you just have a physical barrel of water lashed to your headset that just kind of janks and fuckles around getting in your way. Body physics in the game are great for the combat and enemies, but imo a pure detriment to the expierence every single time the players own body is a factor. Every time I try to climb something in boneworks I feel like I am waiting for my legs to make it up the elevator or begging them not to kick the shit out of the physics based platform. It sort of ironically become less immersive for being more realistic as it becomes more a game about managing this floppy sack of shit attached to my neck. Like managing Ashley in Resident Evil, only she's a HalfLife 2 oil barrel gravity gunned to my anus.

Is there a mod to basically turn off one of the "selling points" of the game?

Blade & Sorcery also has body physics, but I think that they are handled much better. When you climb for instance you feet will actually help you and move intelligently rather than dangle in midair and do nothing but make climbing harder. The melee in Boneworks is just shittier than in B&S too despite both being physics and weight based. I feel like Boneworks has good ideas but needs much more polish.

I'd say great to lack of alternative would be 9:1. Even flat it's worth going back to over most RPGs as there is so much content and customization as few games support modding to the same extent. The 1 would be me actually be willing to try out new VRRPGs if they actually came out. Asgard's Wrath was OK but might have worse combat than unmodded Skyrim VR's. Good graphics and zero filler though. Demeo in isn't even an RPG despite its marketing, just a shallow tactics game with some admittedly fun controls. OpenMW VR is neat from what I've tried, but due to the conflict between the script extender devs and the OpenMW devs it can't get the kind of VR mods that script extender enabled Skyrim VR does. More limited gear based games like Saints & Sinners, Bean Stalker, and ITR seem to be more common which is OK. I've played every title mentioned already of course, not a hard thing to do given the limited scope of VR games in general.

New Ragnarock DLC next week. Hopefully it'll be CreamAPIable.
Describe an ideal VR game.
Dark fantasy type setting, think Vampire Hunter D. Game is about tracking and hunting beast, demons, etc through a ruined city and forrest. Monsters are extremely deadly. So a big part of the game is setting up ambushes and traps before engaging the more powerful beasts. Lots of prep work. Right tools for each foe. Wooden stakes for vampires, silver bullets. You need to manage your money to win.

Anonymous No.375442394 Replies: >>375487120

No. I used to be a butcher, current VR would not be accurate. It would be like a surgeon simulator where you just take the skin off and cut a few sinews here and there, remove a few organs, but it could still be a neat addition to a hunting game or something like red dead.

The question is: Would you even want a fully accurate simulation of skinning an animal? And the answer to that for 99% of consumers, would likely be no. It's a tedious process.

Absolutely. You underestimate how many autists would enjoy something like that, and you also don't appreciate how useful that would be for training hunters/butchers. Instead of having to practice on an actual animal carcass, where mistakes mean ruined meat/etc you can practice on an unlimited number of virtual carcasses where you can make as many mistakes as you need without running up hundreds of dollars in wasted meat.
I think there are plenty of people who'd appreciate being able to practice field dressing an animal before they actually go out and do it in the real world.

Depends on how much the game update breaks. Some updates like one that just adds a DLC pack and changes EULA text will have no affect on mods and you can just copy your old mods to the new install and they'll work fine, so mods are ready day 1. This was a major update though that completely redid the lighting system and changed basic note mechanics, so there's almost no chance of any non-trivial mod continuing to work without major updates. It'll probably be a week before most mods are updated to work with it, and another couple of weeks before the last handful get updated too.

Making DS-style action melee combat satisfying in 1st person is definitely an interesting challenge. figuring out how to do rolls and spins and windups, etc. You'd probably have to make it considerably more "gamey" a la Until You Fall or Swords of Gargantua.

3rd person action combat would maybe feel a bit like Magicka, but first-person is pretty bad. Idk which one is worse, but environmental awareness in 3rd is usually better than 1st. So, that would let you have probably more options for spacing, timing, rolls, trading, etc. It might be a good idea to just have a toggle between 1st person and 3rd person. There are plenty of games with stuff like that, I do not see why VR cannot include it, either.

What's inferior about BFG? I know they made the flashlight head mounted or whatever which makes sense for a flat FPS but in ITR one of my favourite things to do so far was flashlight in left hand and pistol in my right, even after getting the head mounted light sure it's much more efficient but oh so soulless.

Into the radius. You can hold a flashlight/pistol like in that picture and it's the raddest fucking shit ever. Since the game is already kind of a slow burn and a little bit spooky it gave me real phantoms vibes, stalking through an abandoned industrial area at dusk, cautiously checking my corners and fretting over which side to check first when I come to a spot where I'll be exposed from 2 angles etc. Such an atmospheric game I really hope they do more with it but even what's there is pretty great. If you wait until another sale I can definitely recommend it.

If only that was the only thing they changed. They changed the lighting to make everything super bright, they made ammo extremely plentiful, they made sprinting unlimited outside of hell so enemies can never catch you, and mods for the original version don't work. Given that the game was meant to be more of a survival horror title, BFG does gimp the experience. There are multiple mods that tape the flashlight to the gun in the original version which makes the one positive change BFG makes redundant.

Extremely autistic take on Kingdom Come Deliverance VR with B&S combat and adjusted gameplay, retard 'realistic' equipment management that would probably boil down to having only what you have on you + maybe some bag you carry around. It wouldn't sell well, but I'd spend hundreds of hours on just chilling in some forest after hunt and sorting out my poached meat next to a fireplace. Stalker VR is another obvious candidate, but not Into The Radius take, i want stalker where safe human settlements and camps are the center point and exploration is all about those uncomfortable moments that often make you wish you were back in Bar, chilling, sorting out equipment for next adventure.

EU VTOL at 1900 UTC in two hours!

I think I've cracked the puzzle on A2A combat in VTOL- unlike real life, 'notching' (flying perpendicular/90 degrees to a radar, causing it to lose you in background clutter as you've stopped moving towards it) is an extremely powerful and reliable way to dodge air to air missiles.

You always want to be below enemy fighters so you have terrain behind you relative to them, as it makes notching much more effective.

I've made a little video here showing just how powerful it is even in the hands of AI- at just 4 nautical miles behind them they can dodge missiles nearly every single time by notching, but only if they have terrain clutter behind them.

If it's anything like the Rift S/Quest 1 there can be issues with the USB controller hitting it's bandwidth limit. Usually this happens when haptics activate but it can also happen if USB power delivery is interrupted or too many other devices are drawing power. In effect it would be perfectly fine in some games but lose tracking, stutter or crash in others.
It's also worth checking the fit of the controller batteries as all touch v2s can momentarily lose tracking if the batteries don't fit well and you shake them hard enough.

Into the Radius protip: do not play on Ironman mode. I died in the factory and only a few of my items fell anywhere that was possible to access. I got some of them back with playspace mover, but most of them have either vanished completely or are so far out of bounds that they cannot be retrieved. One of the quest items is gone completely. Just play normal mode and don't savescum. The death mechanics are literally game breaking in their current state.

Yes, it is broken.

Two main things you can do:
1. Don't die
2. Accept that this is just bonus difficulty

I lose a number of items on my run. 2.0 is generous enough with money you can just run around anomaly fields and grab the heavy helixes for an hour and be fine.

you haven't beaten the game if you haven't finished it on ironman tbdesu

It's not like you can softlock the game, even if you lose your favorite gun along with your best gear in a weird spot, failures on ironman only punish you with more prep time before you attempt it again. Especially in 2.0 ironman is very forgiving because enemies stay dead until the tide.

Playing ITR on unbroken ironman from the very start of 1.0 to the very end of 2.0 was one of the best gaming experiences I've had in the last decade. I wish I could forget what i learned and experience the game fresh all over again.

Because you can buy stuff from the shop. The stuff around in the radius is mostly there to get you cash rather than resupplies. Crates in vanilla are really the only thing that might be considered a potential for mid-mission resupply but more often than not you'll be taking everything you need in with you.

I have mixed feelings about it so far. It doesn't help that it's not really made for Index controllers. The combat is largely waggle and I can never be certain if I am actually blocking or parrying correctly. I do like that the game follows a more classic adventure game format than trying to pad out its playtime with pointless open world shit or mindless grinding though. Despite having a 40+ hour playtime it actually feels like it respects my time. The graphics are good too, up there with Alyx and Lone Echo 2. The puzzles can be fairly braindead though, and you won't always care to do the various challenges or sidequests.

The mod is a perfect reason as to why. The devs have a bunch of other shit that is higher priority to implement/fix right now, and one modder working for about 6 hours was able to make looting a more interesting rewarding experience so it's something that once all the other shit on their to-do list is done they can probably fix it in a day, maybe 2 if they put in lots of effort.
They're probably spending their time fixing shit that absolutely needs fixing by the next build, like being able to light a cigarette in your mouth like a real human.

I don't understand this gamedev attitude of leaving things completely unfinished for years. Is it really that difficult to have paper lose durability? Just implementing that would give some purpose to one of the many items that spawns everywhere but isn't even worth picking up to sell.

I have a reverb g2, it's OK. As you say there is some issue with the tracking. I read that basically once your countroller starts losing battery even though you are at say 80% battery life, it thinks you are at sub 30% and sticks that controller in low-power mode, which results in poorer tracking.

Only happens in my left one, you can play for a while with great tracking then just swap the batteries out once it starts being a piece of shit. If you have rechargeable batteries it's not an issue, but depends on your tolerance for putting up with bullshit

synthriders wins by mile with their wave riding
that shit is fucking amazing and imo it makes it kind of racing game
imo songs that dont have much wave riding are straight up bad
i still like beat saber, its much better when it comes to hiting just notes and slashing into beat
synthriders difficulty is kind of weird i can play master songs after 1 day and imo anything below expert is way too easy, while in beat saber hard can be still ok, but shit beyond expert is just retard hard with milion notes on screen

I think that Beat Saber is very dependent on the quality of the beatmaps. Namely lots of wrist waggling beatmaps have lowered the quality of the game as a result. Synth Riders actually solves that problem with its core gameplay thankfully.

Better than vanilla, but not perfect. There's still pointless junk items everywhere, but you can actually rely on looted ammo, injectors, spray cans, etc. rather than being forced to buy them. Silver crates spawn a greater variety of weapons. I have body armor and a helmet before even doing the second story mission which is potentially a problem. I don't know if they're rare floor loot or there's a finite number that can ever spawn, because they seem to be in places that had superior loot in vanilla.

Bear in mind you're not meant to use the shop at all otherwise it would be completely unbalanced. Upgrades can be bought because there's no other way to get rails on weapons. I'm avoiding the repair cabinet so I have to use the oil cans I find and treating things that can't be repaired as disposable, but if I find there's one helmet on the entire map then I'll have to repair things like that with it.

This. Moving stuff between containers and crafting areas works in something like Saints & Sinners and Bean Stalker which are built from the ground up for VR and have proper physical inventory management+crafting. Valheim in VR is cool but it's still just using laser pointers more clumsily than you would a keyboard and mouse for managing items. There's no hotkey support in the mod either, which even Vivecraft allows for.

I use a similar mod in Skyrim https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/64772 and the modpack I use for Vivecraft also does the same thing. If I played those games flat I wouldn't bother with those mods, but in VR it's a much more time consuming process for no gain without said mods.

If you don't then I would say no because there isn't really anything else appealing in it. Some people seem to get off by setting every enemy to women and torturing them so there's also that I guess.

now that i look at it, i wonder if performance impact was related to using steamvr preview, or was it just OBS (first webm) vs shadowplay (this one). anyway, bottom line is that performance impact is negligible, so just go ahead and use it as your default way to record anything

Also, for recovery purposes, when you are dizzy, tell your mind, with your mental voice "I'm dizzy, I'm dizzy" repeat it as a chant, your mind will react by helping you recover. It's a technique I learned from buddhists.
