I was looking into PvP melee combat and how it might go beyond just flailing your weapons at each other and phasing through each other's weapons and shields until someone's dead and found this old article.

Anyone know if anything at all has been done with this technology in any game? It would be really cool if VRC could implement something like this themselves as official support for combat in-game or at least if the PvP community could manage something similar across melee models. It's 4 years old and I've yet to see or hear anything about it in VRC, so my assumption is that the answer is "no", but maybe someone somewhere has do this for a PvP game?

Most hit problems in vrchat pvp games are caused by the designer doing "target-side hit detection" instead of "shooter-side hit detection"

So your target is only hit if they see you hit them, which thanks to latency is only going to happen if you're leading your target to account for ping. Most online games that make even the slightest attempt at seriousness use shooter-side hit detection (with a server validation later if there's anticheat). Even with vrchat's huge lag the pvp worlds would be fine if they did that. Obviously if it's purely avatar pvp using physbone triggers or something, that will always be target-side hit detection since it's all running inside their avatar's animators and the shooter doesn't do anything but spit particles or whatever at them.

So Vrchat game worlds have no server, it's all peer to peer, and doing shooter-side hit detection is more complicated and until recently a real pain in the ass to network. The ones that put the effort in to do it right end up pretty decent. Most don't.

There needs to be some standard udon kits to make this easier but I haven't see anyone make one yet

A glorified karaoke contest where /vrg/’s top idols (this could be you!) will compete against each other live on stage in a gigantic clash of singing, dancing and fashion. Actually hold the fuck up, he mentioned it's 2k per eye on a 4k screen, and it has lenses on the pixels. If they really are using 2x2 resolution microlenses with eye tracking, it could be possible to display a lightfield. However the problem at this microlens resolution is depth of field. As the resolution of the microlenses decreases, so does depth of field. I'm not sure how much exactly though. Still, might be better than no depth of field.

Anyone have advice for making the eye strain more bearable. I live in a desert with near perma sub 20% humidity for much of the summer combined with working a computer based dayjob and when I come home to play vr my eyes go from bad to worse. Sub 20% humidity plus 8-16 hours of electronics a day means I go to sleep with my eyes basically bloodshot every night pls help.

Majority of my early VRC experiences were revolving around exploring together with people from around here, playing games in VRC, talking while doing that. Felt like decent opportunities to integrate, i liked it a lot. I was lost on big evenings and parties, but i was never good with that IRL, so i wasn't surprised that it took time to find myself in this kind of events. Also, you can't really expect "community events" when there's 40 people split between two instances, all of them drinking and hanging in their own smaller circles. So, just try calmer hours if you want to be treated nice and personal.

Also, everyone around here was crazy welcoming towards me, but i dunno, i guess your experience may vary depending on many factors including luck.

There are code leaks that indicate they are basically getting it ready. So we'll have Meta accounts instead, similar to Google accounts. This solves the problem of needing to specifically go on Facebook to get an account and risk being banned for stuff on Facebook. But you probably will still need to get that Meta account. The standard blender export works well as long as you do it right.
Select Armature and Mesh only, set scale to FBX ALL, and disable leaf bones while you export. Works well every time.

I used to play it on gamepad and it was pretty fine, this game is surprisingly good on controller, being such a good mix of sim-ish driving logic and arcade safety margins like magic brakes that stop you no matter what. Disable all assists except for ABS and be careful on the throttle, rest is just about keeping your pace and playing it safe which is arguably the hardest skill to learn in car vidya.

I agree with the other two anons, it's just hard to control no matter what input device you're using if you don't know what you're doing. Just take things a little slower at first so you're not wasting time crashing. Might be worth looking up a guide to playing on controller to see if there are any settings that'll help, I had to do some tweaking for my specific wheel to get it feeling better too.
